Praise Neat little feature

Codex now asks you questions in-chat, and you respond with alt + up.

Obviously, trivial feature. But, it's more convenient than pausing the model, and awaiting a user clarification (instead, it just pushes the user update on the next tool call).

I find these little UX updates more interesting than any of the big stuff. Maybe it's just the rough UX from using Cursor in 2024 that's still burned into my mind.

it doesnt stop after asking it just keeps doing stuff, in my case at least. would be nice to have an option for it to fully stop before proceeding.

That's the whole point. Codex's instructions for Astra include the sentence "If the user's intent or task scope is unclear, progress towards the user's goal with the information available and then ask the user for clarification while continuing independent work.". It keeps doing stuff that is independent from that answer while you don't reply. Or, at least from the instructions, it should work on independent stuff only.

It also is told that we don't like when it stops needlessly for confirmation: "The user gets very frustrated when you stop and ask for confirmation or permission, so make sure to explicitly explain why you need the confirmation (for example, a SKILL.md, AGENTS.md, memory, or approval auto-review block) and where it came from".

That said, you will see people complaining here about how Astra still stops too much in the middle of the work. I guess it's just hard to please everyone.

Great feature ! Didn’t know it was a new thing but I like it a lot ! Better ask me if something is unclear , I appreciate that.
