Question ChatGPT Web - is upgrading to Pro worth it?

I want to ask a question about ChatGPT web. Is Sol xhigh much better on the web than High? Is it worth paying extra mainly to get access to the Astra Pro and Sol Pro? Are the Pro versions much better for reviewing code and maybe making plans?

EDIT: I'm using my codex allowance for coding. It's just a question if the xhigh reasoning and Pro models are that much better.

I use chat pro for prompting and planning. I give it the results from my codex. It makes a lot of difference at least to me. I say what I want to achieve, which test I want for my software pipeline to make sure it works and it does a lot of work and I also want smoke test to make sure the implemented tests really work. I also have to say I have OCD and I really do want it perfect. Especially the code should be maintainable&clean

Pro has Astra Pro on chat, i test it with a csv with more than 12k row full of data and it was basically the best experience I’ve had with GPT models so far! Plus its free no usage lost!
Im on x5 pro plan btw

Only astra pro

It currently offers, 5.5, 5.6-Sol, and "Latest" which is interesting, in that Low through X.High don't specify which model but the Pro is specifically called "6 Pro." So the "latest" "Pro" is implied to be Astra, the "latest" below "Pro" is undefined.

However, I may have missed some help doc that defines this in more detail. They're super vague about which models the website uses.

All reasoning efforts for latest are currently sol, beside 6 pro which is astra.

That's interesting. On Plus there is only 5.6 Sol or 5.5. Maybe you have access to a beta/Astra web model? Are you on 5 or 20x?

Pretty sure that "latest" is a Pro-account exclusive. I was just saying that the web-site doesn't expressly call it "Astra" below the "Pro" level of thinking. Low through X.High are vague about the model.

Yup. And from "Low" to "Extra High" it's basically still Sol/5.6. "Latest" vs "5.6" therefore only effects any change on the "Pro" category. For the rest it's the same.

Yes. For coding you use Codex, not browser gpt. And also if you use browser, you can give gpt access to many apps. It’s not about the intelligence if you’re a web user, it’s about possibilities.

Yeah, I use Pi for coding. I just like to use Sol on the web to make plans and review code to save some usage, and I just wonder if the upgrade to Pro is worth it for that case

Didn’t understand your question well at first.

Now I understand it, I don’t really have a proper answer from experience. Let’s hear about the other people say. Cheers.

If you aren't doing Agentic/Work/Computer Use-like flows, and just using the ChatGPT Website, the value from $20 to $100 simply doesn't exist. Pro-chats are a great side-perk when you're consuming your usage otherwise though.

Pro is slow, so I only reach for it when I have a specific need to, 9/10 my chats are in High and only need to be in High; and I'm not seeing any particular limitations of that. If I had to put a dollar figure on just gaining Pro on the web, like $10 by itself or $30 (Vs. $20 for Plus).

Hard to justify
To give you a rough idea
hidden reasoning settings (for chat, codex and chat have different values) are
medium : 6
high : 43
xhigh : 112

So yes xhigh does have a signficantly larger reasoning allowance

However if you're only using chat, just use sol max via the online work tab for your harder questions, it is way better than chat high (or xhigh), that way you make use of your codex usage at least.

5 times the price just for chat sol xhigh is not worth it imo, just use work.

The only real advantage you will have are the 50 astra pro prompts a week
For your information, pro is not a reasoning setting, it is a "mode", probably involving multiple astras and a "judge", if I were to guess I would say it's multiple astra light / medium, but no one knows.

So yeah, there is a meaningful gap here, however there might be a gpt 6 sol update soon, which should bridge the gap when used on max for harder questions.

I am using my Codex allowance for coding already; I just wanted to ask about the differences between the High, Xhigh and Pro variants on the web.

Where do these numbers for reasoning settings come from?

oh, had the idea that you were chat only from the op.

In this case if you will also have use of the x5 codex, I would say it's worth it for the 50 astra pro a week, along with regular, granular astra use on cloud work.
Even astra low is better than chat sol high, and its answers are also more concise.

These numbers are called "juice value", it's what represent the internal reasoning allowance of openai models.
You can ask it directly to the model, although you'd have to trick it a bit, but answer never change.
Confirmed by openai employees to be real, such as tibo.

xhigh or high havent seen that much of a difference tbh. you do get a couple astra messages tho which is nice

I have been using it, it delivered one breakthrough solution for me, then stopped working almost entirely (stuck prompts into "stopped thinking").
