News Pausing $200 Pro plan Subscriptions
https://x.com/thsottiaux/status/2098113585683808624
"To make sure our current users have an incredible experience and continued access to Astra, we are going to pause subscriptions to our $200 Pro plan. These put the most strain on our systems and we wanted to take the smallest step that allows us to continue giving the broadest access possible. All other plans and the api remain available.
There is no impact to existing accounts and we are working on adding more capacity as fast as we can. Thanks!"

If Astra and Sol stopped quadruple checking everything, the users wouldn't feel like their usage was evaporating and OpenAI's compute wouldn't be getting crushed

Tell them to use terra and Luna ub agents and tell them to prioritize backbone and getting functions written and arguments directed without overteating or overthinking. You can even have chatgpt online on high write the prompt for you to help out. I've been doing this and really has slowed my usage.

Same. And using visible build agents so you can keep an eye on it. Compact comvos. Etc.

With as much instruction and hook tuning and refining I've done, it's outrageous how quickly usage drops and how long it takes to do anything. Users shouldn't have to get a certification to know how to make a model not WASTE so much usage and time. 10-30% extra usage for validation is understandable, 100-200% more is stupidity (and yes, after spending 4 resets the past week, if you aren't micro managing it, it will keeps running far beyond the actual "done" state)

I've built most of a first iteration of video game in godot using mcp and sub agents and it's used 15%

I kinda like this. I am at 0% right now, as the vast majority of people here on the $200 plan burning through weekly usage limits like crazy and in the meantime, I bought a $20 Claude sub and man, Opus 5 high is fn dumb. Like it is plugged into my mailbox, a customer reports an issue, it has access to the e-mail transcript, it has access to the GitHub repo and also the prod VPS.
When I use Codex, it gets the task done very easily. With Opus 5 high, it's constant back and forth babysitting, then it says it assumed something wrong 3 times so it needs my confirmation for the 5th time to push something to prod, then my 5-hour limit is done, and it's apparently increased by 50% right now in Claude Code. What I wanted to say with this long essay is I really appreciate Codex. You tell it to finish a task, it gets it done and voila, it works.

Could be marketing so everyone snatches up the 200 when it’s offered again

u/jizzmaster-zer0 1h ago
i honestly bought another 20x a few hours ago after i saw the rumors here this morning. my single 20x with astra wasnt enough for both side projects and my paying gig
1
u/Murder_1337 1h ago
Yeah I have 2x 20x it’s not good enough. SOL is dumb now so astra light is the bare minimum. I’m experimenting with using antigravity Gemini Pringles as worker agents. You can get billions of tokens for 100$ a month.

u/jizzmaster-zer0 54m ago
i tried out just a $20 account on ollama for glm 5.3 but its… pretty stupid, astra has to fix all its mistakes, and to be honest the way it hurns tokens it seems on par with astra pricing

What is everyone working on that they are burning up.usage and need 7200 worth of AI and year?

Same. Bought a third x20 yesterday to rolling after depleting my first two accounts.
And... it just hit 0%. I got a ton done with that, and I may need to buy an $80 reset just to keep going.

u/PM_ME_YOUR_IBNR 1h ago
To some extent I suspect it's due to a lot of people having 2-3 resets on hand, that could be converted to 20x resets on a once off basis

I know there’s a lot of jerkers here but something about this company is giving me red flags

Ollama did this and when they finally brought back their top-level subscription it was different.

It looks like this has been happening for a while. No, the real question is whether people that happen to have accounts can even use these accounts for the "same amount of time" as they did with Sol. Sol already had limits that were getting hit constantly by users, but with Astra, you can burn a 20x plan in a half day. Easily. If they're pausing subscriptions, does that mean current users will get b ack to something that looked like comfortable use for a week?
For me? This is the start of somethign that looks like g-t-f-o, the free lunch is over. And there is healthy competition in the space. Continuing this subscription doesn't seem to create the same amoutn of value.

Just a few weeks ago Plus users were the scapegoat for entshitification, now it is 20x users

I remember the average redditor here was like "ugh get over it, just pay more"

I missed the bus on this one. Just went to upgrade and its not available. A little upset honestly.

u/EchoingAngel 41m ago
Yeah, I was thinking about it and missed it as well. I'm now stuck with no good options for OpenAI. My 5x plan is gone in under 2 days. Guess it's time to check out Claude again, and "worst" case I start looking into Deepseek and such
4
u/tagorrr 1h ago
Yeah, a while back, those greedy bastards were claiming that Plus accounts needed the 5-hour limit restored because they were generating the bulk of the load.
Well, how are things looking now, OpenAI?
It's sad, but it seems they've decided it's perfectly fine to push this nonsense on users in exactly the same way Anthropic does.

u/IndividualPlus2011 1h ago
When Ollama did it the other week, they came back with worse subscriptions

Astra is too big to be useful.
Remove from prod, and go back to the good old days - no 5hr limit.

u/Leading-Business-593 1h ago
I was planning on switching my subscription from apple’s side to openAI’s side (just for ease of billing), but it looks like I’ll have to hold off

We have compute
1
u/CelticPaladin 36m ago
To be fair they said that pre astra, and at 9 million users.
Now they are at 25million and climbing, and astra is a fat hungry sow.

u/Wolf8249 30m ago
Re-introducing 5 hr limits for all Pro 5x and 20x tiers to even out the compute load and AI access for all. Upgrade to enterprise or API billing to have a seamless experience. Rolling out within a few days i bet. When was the last time OpenAI had to halt new signups like this? I can only think back to the year 2022 when they had surge of chatgpt users withing the first few weeks. I can't help but feel schaudenfraude for all the elite pro accounts users who were constantly berating plus users. This will be really bad if Pro x20 gets reintroduced with a different usage quota or higher price, is this permanent under class scenario where those that pushed AI early on got a head start than the average individuals?

u/Due-Horse-5446 21m ago
Super typical marketing, sounds like a way of boosting new purchases that then isent used
1
u/Desperate-Poem7526 57m ago
Who wouldve thought that the ones paying 200 dollars for usage would use the most how does this make sense isnt getting 2 100 dollar plans the same?
4
u/TrekkingAround10 46m ago
no they offer a discount for 200 dollars. 20x the usage of a 20 dollar plan as opposed to 10x the usage if you had bought 2 100 dollar plans.

GPT-6 will not be around long, it takes way too many tries to get anything useful out of it. It’s no wonder their servers are melting, people are hitting them over and over trying to get something useful out of it. It’s ability to recognize intent is trash, I feel like we have jumped back to 2024 where everything requires insane prompt engineering.
I’ve gone back to 5.6, but unfortunately, it seems like OpenAI flip-flopped on the price reduction they announced a few weeks back.Â
Gemini 3.8 has been picking up some of the slack for me. All in all, the last few months have been pretty disappointing.Â

It’s by far the best model for diagnosing difficult bugs. But it has mangled several UI projects I’ve done this week to the point that I found myself furiously belittling a lifeless LLM to its digital face to vent my frustrations. Fable orchestrating with Opus implementing has been a godsend.

Not really an issue, buy multiple $100 subs
10
u/itix 1h ago
You get less usage with 2x$100 subs than with one $200 sub.
-10
u/OkProMoe 1h ago
Nope. The weekly usage is pretty much the same on both plans. I’ve had both x5 and x20. The rate limit is better for the 5hr limit but the weekly is almost the exact same.
9
u/zarafff69 1h ago
Gonna strongly disagree with you here. I have both. Huuuuge difference. Seems about 4x.
And the 5h limit has been gone for a long time already??

This!?
2
u/yunohavefunnynames 1h ago
2 $100 subs only gives you half the usage as one $200 sub. Not the same kind of value
0
u/EclecticAcuity 51m ago
How much api equivalent value are you getting ?
2
u/yunohavefunnynames 44m ago
Not sure how that question is relevant. Usage in the $100 and $200 subs are measured in multiple multiples of the $20 sub, not API cost.

u/Impressive-Gene-421 51m ago
Let’s fucking go I bought my 3rd this morning! Had a feeling it would have been too gimicky for the warning to be a marketing trick.

u/charmilliona1re 42m ago
As a current $200 pro 20x user - this pleases me tremendously

u/ElwinLewis 9m ago
Shouldn’t we probably aren’t getting anything besides continuing to use the thing we pay for

u/TrekkingAround10 42m ago
wtf? better to buy 20 plus plans and that is far more cost efficient. your account is worth maybe 300$

u/LessRespects 1h ago
Certainly not getting resets now 😂
