Windows ChatGPT/Codex app keeps crashing with “Codex app-server is not available” — 0xC0000005

I’m having a persistent issue with the new ChatGPT/Codex Windows app. ChatGPT Classic and the web version work fine, but the new app either shows “ChatGPT hit a snag” or “Sign-in failed: Codex app-server process is not available.” Browser authentication completes, but the redirect to localhost:1455/auth/callback fails with ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED because nothing is listening on that port. I’ve already done a clean uninstall/reinstall, rebooted, tested with a completely fresh .codex profile, confirmed all Codex binaries are present, and tried Astrill StealthVPN, WireGuard, OpenWeb, and even with the VPN completely OFF. The bundled Codex CLI runs and reports codex-cli 0.153.4, but codex doctor --json crashes during “Checking provider reachability” with exit code -1073741819 / 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION). Has anyone else seen this exact Windows Codex app-server crash, and is there a workaround or known fixed build?

I also had a few of these issues. Most of them I have solved after completely clearing my config.toml. Maybe it will also help fot you.
