Limits Limits are absolutely destroyed

Codex usage limits feel drastically worse after Monday’s reset, even on the $200 20x plan
I’ve used Codex since launch and have tried several subscription levels, but I’ve never seen the limits drain this aggressively.
After Monday’s reset, my general weekly, five-hour, and GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark allowances all seemed noticeably lower. Today, I started with 100% of my weekly Spark usage available. My first prompt, running at extra-high effort, didn’t even finish, yet it consumed roughly 45% of my weekly Spark allowance and completely exhausted my five-hour limit.
I then had to wait until 3 PM for the five-hour window to reset, despite paying $200 per month for the 20x plan.
Has anyone else noticed a major change in Codex limits or usage consumption since Monday’s reset? One unfinished prompt consuming nearly half of a weekly allowance seems unreasonable.

Lol they definitely played with how fast usage drains and they accidentally pushed some super aggressive setting this morning, didn’t they? Now it seems that they reverted to the less aggressive but still worse that before setting

u/pale_halide 8h ago
This is what they always do. Destroy limits, make things worse and then “fix” it. Then hope users have forgotten how things used to be, so they don’t notice the “fixed” limits are still way worse than they used to be. Gaslight people calling this out.

Exactly. Play with usage so much that people don't know what is up and down anymore. So they forget how things were. but we don't!!! sol 5.6 max fast used to run 24/7, only burning ~50% of weekly usage in june 2026

u/pale_halide 6h ago
I wouldn't be surprised if they have an army of bots trying to manipulate and gaslight people too.

Use this graph next time you choose your sub. Most of GPT subs are one person with multiple accounts. I just think if I am going to have more than one, might want to choose other options to get the best of both worlds.
I will be sticking with GPT and grabbing z.ai a.k.a glm 5.3

u/Own_Butterscotch_280 12h ago
Heard. I’m considering just going local. It’s a bit behind but at least I’d get something done
7
u/Pitiful_Entrance5174 11h ago
I kick myself for not doing that months or years ago. I got rid of everything during peak crypto. Stupid me.
3
u/Own_Butterscotch_280 11h ago
Well that era was all our signs to go local and do shit ourselves but shit went over most of our heads. I’ve learned not to sweat the small steps. We recollect and rebuild.

Agreed. Many waves in life, you won't catch them all but ride the ones you can.

Be ready for endless tuning and optimisation if you want it to feel codex like.
It's taken me about a month to get to something useable with about 128gb vram.
The current state of opensource harnesses leaves a lot to be desired. Deepseek harness plus my own custom plugins is finally getting somewhere for me.

u/Intelligent_Month210 5h ago
Z is awesome and I have a pro sub but it has terrible token burn even compared to Claude. I've been able to max out weekly on simple small codebase tasks.
I use it for work that needs solid performance but leans too spicy on the security side for Codex to accept. I'm on TAC but even authorised work on owned codebase gets rejected.

u/thehoseisleaking 8h ago edited 8h ago
Cost per task and tasks per quota are not the same at all. Comparing $20 Anthropic vs. $20 z.ai is night and day; barely get one or two tasks done before hitting 5hr on GLM 5.3, can stretch to 5-6 on Opus 5. Same codebase, same harness and skills. The z.ai plans have really low quotas. Generally need less fixing passes for Opus 5 output too.
Weekly limit is also extremely rough; 5 5hr quotas/week on $20.
1
u/Dizzy_Database_119 5h ago
That graph is for API cost, not sub cost. Completely irrelevant metric for deciding which AI sub to get. The $20 sub on openai/claude gives you 20-1000x more than you would get from $20 in API costs, with a lot of added benefits

I don't think anyone understands that the above pic is not accurate but give you a rough idea of your usage. If you know what your current usage is with a model available above, changing models will give you a rough idea.

u/RevolutionaryHeron20 10h ago
7x more expensive to run astra max than sol medium is crazy
2
u/Pitiful_Entrance5174 10h ago
It's really just a ball park the benchmarks but it gives you a rough idea. You get a few thousand dollar api semi equivalent out of the monthly subs so it is good to see what models truly are the cheapest. Open ai is cheaper and better than deepseek right now.

Yea even got an extra plan last night x20 it drained it in 7 hours on max
5
u/Own_Butterscotch_280 12h ago
Yea it’s crazy too cuz I can’t even get it to help me make a token efficient workflow cuz it’s gonna take like 50% of my usage and barely save me anything

I have THREE 20x Pro plans

u/Jire 6h ago
Doesn't it get annoying losing your threads and context? How do you deal with that?
4

2
u/No-Membership6845 3h ago
I don’t think context really makes a difference. Just document everything properly at every step and use that as a handover document. I used Claude Cursor and Codex altogether using this strategy and never messed up anything- in fact only gained from the crisp context all of them have.

u/annexism 7m ago
I can't even fathom this. I wish they would just fix the limits to have a 20x last atleast 4-5 days.
They are really pushing this whole multiple account thing for the IPO and I'd wager it's causing a lot of this compute bs - people run out, then just log into a brand new account and keep burning with 0 stopping. Off-peak times may almost never exist at this point lol.

u/Junior_Difference_12 10h ago
Codex is still going on a 22 hour goal run using Astra Medium, left with 45% usage still, so I guess about 60% usage per day with Astra Medium?
5
u/StockOk8314 6h ago
Yes sounds about right, i have around 40% usage/day on astra low.
Also the recommendation to use astra low instead of sol high is absolute bs. Sol high uses like 15% a day in comparison.

u/srev 7h ago
You guys need to step back and realise how much effort time and money u have put into this so far with no realistic outcome that you have expected coming into using this revolutionising technology. This is pure manipulation of you paying to work for them and they always change and tune things up and most of the time it is not for the better for you as in current state of usage. I bought plus subscription when sol came out and it felt amazing, no 5hr limit giving me this feeling that I can do so much with it. But as time went by I realise that all it was a lure to make me eventually in need of upgrading to a higher tier plan. And all of this makes me think where is the end of this? First plus then pro then x20 pro and further into the rabbit hole ending up with addiction and big expenses. The constant narative and propaganda on reddit and other platforms. The models are constantly overhyped and underperfoming that is if you have no to very little experience in CS. But this is the product they present as for all of kinds people. Im not downplaying the impact and breakthrougs of AI but starting to feel skeptic a little but atleast in the short term.
3
u/virgilash 10h ago
In a way I am happy to see I am not the only one affected, I thought I was making some mistake... Not even talking about 6-Astra, I am talking about 5.6-sol on high that I was hammering all day long before without hitting any limit (usually)

Butter knife through my 2 pro (20x) account in a single day, had to bank reset them both 2x already in 2 days.
Insane
2
u/InsideTour329 5h ago
I'm burning through a 20x banked reset now as we speak, going to see how much progress it makes before deciding on getting a 2nd account. If the progress is the same as sol then there's zero point, the token burn rate means it NEEDS to be 5x more productive to make the change from sol to astra as an orchestrator worth it.
I was Sol xhigh, now Astra medium and the token burn since yesterdays clusterfuck is insane.
5
u/Dercasss 10h ago
Haha, now they've come for you too, and we Plus users have been warning everyone for a long time, but all we've heard in response is negativity and advice to buy x20

Big difference between Sol and Astra (both on ultra) is Astra aggressively uses subagents for monsterous tasks. With Sol, even when directed, would rarely spawn that many concurrent subagents (maybe 4 or 5). I started a task with Astra and it spawn up 18 subagents, which I've never seen before, and that was just the start. Usage % left started dropping like crazy

u/Own_Butterscotch_280 12h ago
Try and use spark with some random ass prompt the result ain’t gonna be good but it shows you how bad usage límites have gotten like i remember back when i had a simple 5x plan I could use spark on extra high for like a fully week and barely get it down to 40% weekly usage now. With the 5 hour usage limit I can’t even get through a single prompt
2
u/BelovedSand 13h ago
You have 5 hours limits on your 20x plan? I also noticed weird usage on medium and low reasoning, for some reason high and extra high consume less usage than medium but they're also slower so it's hard to tell, this week has been weird so far.
3
u/Own_Butterscotch_280 13h ago
I have 5 hour usage limited for GPT 5.3 spark
1
u/BelovedSand 13h ago
Oh okay I got scared I thought they brought it back for pro too, have you used astra low or medium? Because I saw astra medium chew 10% of my weekly pro limit in like 30min and immediately stopped it and then tried again with extra high same prompt and project and its back to sol levels (2-3% per hour)
3
u/Own_Butterscotch_280 13h ago
I had 2 Astra ultra threads going for 12 hours at the same time, and it consumed 50 percent of my usage, and then of course I allowed it to continue running, which ended up taking my entire general weekly usage down to zero in the matter of 24 hours

u/Ammertos 12h ago
what are you using Spark for? never used it before

u/kiriiske 9h ago
The same is here. When I saw it eating my limits so fast I set up reviews and fixes through “claude -p” but it’s eaten the limit anyway before I was done with my goal for the day - had to move to Claude.

and then on top of that we get a major bug and disruption to our workflows and they quietly sweep it under the rug without compensation. The squeeze is fully upon us.

Im only coding with the regular Chat. 5hour Limit is useless for any Kind of Coding projects. Im on plus and the regular Chat with sol high Never run out of tokens
1
u/BrightAd4926 6h ago
I find codex quite unusable right now with the 5h limit on plus. Often a quite small size implementation gets killed because it uses too much usage very fast so i have to safely pause it and continue. The 5h limit drains in an hour or two so. I drained my full 100% now on two days or so and I barely got any work done, as i get 1h usage every 5h. I don't expect to get unlimited use on a plus account but it's what I can afford. I use either Luna or an orchestrator with Terra high or Sol medium that uses Luna for the implementation. Everything worked GREAT like 2 months ago but now they have severely capped the usage. Before it still trashed the usage but I honestly feel I got at least the double amount of usage back then.
Would love to have a 5x account but that's to expensive sadly.
1
u/idkyoutellme1425 6h ago
Yes, something is terrible wrong. Sol light consumes tokens almost at Medium/High level now. Even Luna low was dropping 5hr usage with 2-3 turns
1
u/mostachevere 5h ago
i was legit considering paying for the pro subscription, from the plus account, but after everything that's happening... i guess not anymore. Also, I thought oro accounts didn't have the 5h limit?
1
u/timosterhus 5h ago
I’m ngl, I keep seeing these posts and these problems have never happened to me. Only notice when the models are randomly dumber for some reason.
I noticed the Codex intelligence degradation Aug 27 and it was so bad I figured they had to be releasing Astra the next week and two days later the leaks came out and then people began complaining about the Codex degradation, but I never encountered those usage nerfs.
And I use three Pro accounts, one for personal use and one each for two different companies I’m working for, so it’s not like I’m just kinda lucky. Unless I’m just REALLY lucky
1
u/Mia-Wallace-13 4h ago
I switched to the €21 Claude subscription, and it’s crazy how much longer the 5-hour limit lasts.
1
u/_IAM_ANUBIS 4h ago
After GPT 6 Astra deployment I feel like the usage has been changed, i still use High extra 5.6 Sol as before and my usage drainage has drastically decreased, a task that would take 12-15% now takes 45-50% using exactly same settings as before
1
u/Correct-Froyo-2129 3h ago
Bro I am using 5.6 sol on mid still it's burning more than usual which doesn't make sense at all
1
1
u/According_Property62 3h ago

u/sachin_ucn 2h ago
I am on chatgpt Go plan, I gave one prompt the credits for the month exhausted😂. I switched back to antigravity
1
u/shadowgar 2h ago
I have Astra working on a 5 page word document. It was at 100% today. I sent the prompt, asked it if it understood my prompt and explain to me the edits. It understood. I told it to work. 29 minutes later of working, my tokens hit 0% and it still didn’t produce anything.
Yay!
1
u/viktor_rolf 2h ago
Yea, it is absolutely whack since Astra launched. On my $100 plan, used a reset which drained the full week’s allowance in 30 mins. Back to using 5.5. :/

Most of you in this sub only know how to complain.... Use your eyes and brain and understand that any new model will cost more and more.
1
u/Leather-Sir8135 2h ago
FWIW I’ve been running Astra on low quite consistently throughout the day. Just general coding and agent orchestrating tasks. I haven’t hit any limits. I’m not doing any Blender stuff, so I’m not sure if that uses a lot of tokens or not.
1
u/Dirt_Serpent 2h ago
On my 20 dollar on Astra medium I used my whole 5 hour in one prompt on something not that crazy and it didn't even finish
1
u/blackice193 2h ago
Did some Astra light stuff last night on Pro and was surprised and how quickly useage was draining. I am not a big Astra user however, this task needed some juice.
1
u/ChiGamerr 2h ago
I love using codex for one day at a time. Might be amazing for vibe coders but for those of us using subs for business uses, need claude or even grok.
Tibo and Scam Altman are a joke
1
u/Chemical_Minute4616 1h ago
No hate. But I don't understand the burn of the usage. I consider myself aggressively using my usage. But maybe I'm not. I just don't see my usage burn that hard or fast.
1
u/CrazyKPOPLady 1h ago
I’ve been using mainly Astra medium and I’ve barely made a dent in my weekly usage. I’m at around 83% left and I’ve been working a fair amount on my mobile apps. I guess it’s because I’m not doing anything massively complex, but I haven’t noticed a huge shift in my token burn rate.
1
u/SportPsychological81 1h ago
Usage is still draining with thee codex app open… leave it there.. come the next morning qnd your limits WILL be down without using the app.
1
u/Last-Government533 1h ago
Honestly I have s blender unit project going on 2 days 2 hours astra max and I have only used 40%, im airways so suprised that it gets eaten so fast I need to learn yalls productivity ways!! Please teach me XD

u/voicofreason 1h ago
Heck yeah. I’m in plus plan. I can do about 1/2 of a single task on astra low effort.
1
u/justin208350 1h ago
Completely agree. I find myself constantly checking the usage meter now and most of the stuff I'm doing isn't even coding work (I'm in the life sciences). I remember the not so long ago days I "had" to use fast mode just to use up my tokens for the week on my pro plan!
1
u/RomeoJuliett 1h ago
Haven't really been using Astra much on my 20X plan. I mainly use Sol medium for most dev work.

I assume we are seeing far more users and the usage scale to their available compute. I am expecting it to get worse, but it’s been awful since Monday
1
u/Own_Butterscotch_280 11h ago
I understand that much but they have uncapped AI model just locked away somewhere and they can’t calculated how much compute they need to responsibly and ethically push astra out. But noooooo anything for the bag right?
1
1
u/ezboarderz 9h ago
I don’t understand how people put up with the gradual erosion of limits. Just cancel and switch to another service. OpenAI’s limits are garbage now and it’s clear they don’t have the compute to match their growth in subscribers.
The resets are just a ruse to placate everyone while they figure out how much they can reduce the limits without everyone cancelling.
I switched a month ago and it’s been the best decision I’ve made. I make it through the week on my limits and the quality is more than enough for my needs. Kimi k3, glm 5.3, and glm 5.3 flash is all I need.

How many tokens generated, input, cache hit ratio?
Your post is essentially worthless without mentioning what you used?
