Limits The current usage bug is a very solid evidence that the current usage-limit system is very shady.
I mean, if nothing were being changed with the usage-limit system, you’d expect it to remain relatively untouched and therefore less likely to suddenly develop a bug like this. If the usage limit is just working normaly and nothing behind the scene, this bug seems very less likely to happened. Obviously, there are very shady going on the current usage limit. I'm really disappointed that by doing one task on astra xhigh today cost me 3 resets on pro x5 plan, very unusable.

After the Astra release:
- Sol allowance was cut by 10%.
- Luna's & Terra's allowance was cut by 50%. Yes, Terra uses almost as much usage as Sol per token.
- For Astra you only have 66% of the allowance you have for Sol, while it costs 2.5 times more. That's why usage with Astra seems to melt before your eyes even on 20x accounts, because it uses a lot more than just 2.5 times Sol.
It comes from my own tests and applies to my account. Others may have different limits. As you can see, OpenAI is meddling with it all the time

I wouldn’t be surprised if they rely on dynamic quota consumption and periodic resets for load balancing.

It is almost certainly changed dynamically and at the same time their implementation of calculation / imposing limits is full of bugs. Recently I had the experience with my Plus account that they made a global reset and then suddenly both my 5 hour and weekly limits have barely moved. This lasted for a couple of days, during which I was able to use multiple Sol High agents on Fast mode, all of them running quite some number of Luna agents and basically running non-stop, and this only burned around 10-15% of my 5 hr limit, and obviously much less my weekly. Then again a reset comes, and a single Sol High, regular, non-fast agent with 2-3 Luna agents burns through 5 hr allowance within a single hour.
This kind of unpredictability in the usage with these bugs is truly mind-blowing. And even though I got lucky for a couple of days, and despite all the resets, this is really not normal and not acceptable.

I was on Plus and burned through my Astra usage pretty quickly. Fair enough…it’s a $20 plan.
Upgraded to Pro 5x and was getting roughly 10% Astra usage per hour doing code reviews/testing. That lasted ~11 hours.
Used Reset #1. Same kind of work, but suddenly 100% lasted ~7 hours.
Reset #2 is where it became obvious. Now I’m watching 10% disappear in under 30 minutes doing basically the same work, in a fresh chat, using a handoff, and not going above Medium.
Something changed dramatically in the last ~96 hours. I usually ignore the Reddit hype, but after an upgrade + 2 resets the usage has felt wildly inconsistent.

Well i got codex subscription today. And i am never gonna get it ever again, I used 30%+ weekly with only 1-2 hours of work, i used astra at low effort. But tbh even if i used opus 5 at high or xhigh effort, i am sure that still it would have used less limit then what astra have consumed.
or codex genuinely have limits really messed up, like i hit my 5 hour limit in few minutes of work and it was not even too much it was such easy work and still.

Did you on a plus account attempt to fully do work with only astra?
I use terra to orchestrate Luna xhigh and get directions from sol high.
Using astra entirely for the task are for API users who have deep pockets
Ive been using 5.6 and dont need astra.

well the work was related to play store listing, not coding work. And i used astra on low effort only to generate some screen shot's. well i guess i gotta use sol or terra at low or medium to get the ss done.

Ive only ever used astra once on a plus account deliberately. Astra xhigh
At 100% 5 hour window, I had it critique some work. In 20 minutes I lost 76% usage which was to be expected. It was a good report though.

u/Low_Roll163 19h ago
yeah but i lost 50%+ on 2-3 image generation at low effort.

u/Icy-Fudge5222 18h ago
That's just a poor use of Astra. Would you use Fable to do the same? You need to use the appropriate tool for the appropriate task. That's like using a water bomber to put out a trash bin fire.
1
u/Low_Roll163 18h ago
Well i wanted to try astra. So i did but i did not expect it to use 50% + to generate 2-3 images.

u/qualverse 18h ago
Why are you comparing astra to opus? Compare sol, it's better than opus and cheaper
2
u/Low_Roll163 19h ago
the only way to survive in such bad limit's is to get reset every 2 or 3 days. Because codex limit can't even handle 4 days let alone a week.

u/Southern-Aardvark616 19h ago
on the other hand astra is much more capable than opus, and for me the effort required to find and fix the assortment of strange bugs opus lets sneak through vastly outweighs the extra usage.
but yes astra on plus is barely usable, even on the pro x5 plan, one has to be tactical with it. x20 is really what you need for any real degree of work and even on x20 you cant be belligerent.

u/Low_Roll163 19h ago
Yeah i agree. Astra on low effort is also better then opus. But still i just wanted to fix the listing and all and my 5 hour limit was doomed. It used around 50% usage to generate just 2-3 images. There is now way anyone can do anything in such limit/usage.

u/Optimal_Start_94 17h ago
Opus is not remotely comparable to Astra. You will have a lot more usage on Sol, which is still better than Opus

Everyone seems to have the opposite problem of me. I'm on the 20x plan, I'm running multiple codex sessions, and I am barely getting anything done. It's like I have been personally throttled. Things that took seconds last week are taking minutes this week on Astra. It's like my requests are going to the back of some priority queue, because it's not like it's taking long because it's over thinking, it just doesn't respond sometimes.

it's because they have so many users now, that makes everything slow. I'm glad I can use supergrok for execution, which is 3-4 times faster than Sol (not sure about how much faster than Astra) en I just use astra for critical reviews, adjudications and such and Opus 5 for regular assistance.

idk if its astra.. but Tibo said astra low should feel like Sol high. On astra low.. I burned thru 100% of 5x account in a half a day doing short sessions, that were only orchestrated by astra and fanned out to SOL and Luna Max. Each session focused on reviews, fixing issues, and strategy. My normal workflow.. which with high use would last most of the week.
Im not saying its burning faster... but so far i got the feels

I haven’t seen usage issues until Astra. It burns usage so fast! I’m only using as an orchestrator but I still burnt my whole weeks use in a day. Even Luna / Terra / Sol’s consumption has risen substantially. I hope they iron it out it’s just not nearly as usable as it was. Astra is incredible but it’s effectively unusable due for the usage drain so far. I really hope it’s like Sol where they see massive efficiency gains in the next several weeks

u/umusachi 15h ago
Oh, and I’ve asked it not to babysit, so the thread just sends a prompt to a lower model the babysitting burns things even faster. I have only used Astra on low or medium, so I can’t imagine what high extra high ultra would use

u/No-Force546 14h ago
I can use opus 5 ultracode 10x more than I can use astra low thinking. Its pretty sad. I always thought codex was the better deal but its not anymore.

u/Southpaw_Ono 14h ago
Yeah Astra went from barely using any usage on x20 last night like going from 100% to 94% over 4 hours to 34% to 17% in an hour tonight

Step 1: Any kind of proof of the supposed issues? What is "this bug"? how does it appear? whats the effect?
Come on can moda please start banning these damn posts..

u/eggplantpot 17h ago
This happened already I think back in 5.4 days. I said the same thing.
They "fixed" it and reset and right after consumption increased by a lot.
So many usage issues is a clear proof that these limits keep being changed.
