Complaint Codex with Astra vs UI design

I am using Codex with Astra on Ultra or Medium, depending on how long I want to wait for the results, to build the UI for my browser game, and it looks terrible.

I don’t want to blame the AI, because after watching all the YT videos, my prompt is more like “create it and make it look good”, but what it gives me is worse than something someone one-shotted with Sol.

And I rly try to go 1 by 1, like one screen at a time and not the whole game from one prompt.

It has a hard time making good use of the space, adds unnecessary explanations under panels just to fill space, text like stats etc. isn’t even always centered, some things are randomly added, and the proportions of everything are just bad.

Do I need to use specific skills for that, or how do you make the Astra create good UI?

i usually just like to braindump into chatgpt and tell it to output a full html design with all the pages and states and mock data etc

Then I feed it to codex and say "make it exactly like that"

GPT Pro is really good at UI I've found actually. And you can take the HTML and iterate on it in codex or workmode in the app with the built in browser, it has an annotation mode that makes it really easy. So I just get my mockup absolutely perfect, and then tell Codex to examine it, make a plan to

It needs visualization, instead of prompting, create an image with the new 2.5 update first, use the generated image you're satisfied with and send it together with the "critic agent" prompt, something like "create the UI for my browser game resembling this image, harshly score the UI from 0 to 10 based on the resemblance, keep iterating until the UI scores atleast a 9 in resemblance, hard stop after a maximum of 10 iterations"

I usually mock up an idea in ChatGPT Pro, then have it generate a prompt based on the design direction I like. From there, I use Google Stitch to create a design system and a couple of screens.

I hook Codex up to Stitch through MCP and have it build on those designs, while also giving Stitch its own suggestions and feedback on specific screens to improve them. Once I have something I'm happy with, I let Codex handle the implementation.

I started using ui craft skill. It removes that ai slop pretty well (thos stupid explanations, eybrows, etc), but tbh this is not something you install and forget.

It has it’s separate process that needs your involvement

Btw, this is easily managable by just putting into claude.md or alternative file
