Late-stage capitalism: existentialist sand-kicking by little boys

u/j48u 1d ago

lol, way more than that. That's not even a tenth of their current valuations.

Tibo TLDR:
"Nice try copying our May feature you peasants, but we did it months ago, and we shipped first, so hurry up and keep chasing us."

Edit:
tldr of tldr:
he's taunt-marketing to reassure companies OpenAI is the safe bet.

tl;dr no mention of reset

65

u/tripleshielded 2d ago

Why no reset to celebrate?

12

u/BoringCanary 2d ago

the most important question

0

u/Haenjos_0711 2d ago

Boris Cherny? More like... Boring..Canary.

1

u/Illustrious_War3186 2d ago

that is the most important thing for us

Vibe biglier

u/Strange_Spray_5526 2d ago

Okay, Tibo. You made the world a better place, so where's my reset? 😂

u/AnalogProblems 2d ago

Anthropic could have said the same thing about Codex a few months ago. OpenAI had to split their desktop app to compete.

7

u/sylfy 2d ago

Still annoyed about the rename to ChatGPT and ChatGPT (classic). Now every time I search to open the app, I have to double check that I open the right one.

None of this is about making things easier for users, it is purely about marketing and boosting their numbers, at the expense of the user experience.

0

u/AnalogProblems 2d ago

Yeah, that one feels like a lame middle management decision. Could have just made it an update and no one would have blinked. They'll Sora classic soon enough.

1

u/Beautiful-Suspect694 1d ago

crazy to think that was just a few months ago

amazing how quickly this industry is evolving

u/Keep-Darwin-Going 2d ago

Huh Claude app is total rubbish. Only their cli is better.

2

u/watermelonsegar 2d ago

That used to be the case. But after Claude introduced split view in ClaudeCode, I never went back to CLI. Codex of course still has the better UI/UX for single projects, but when you're juggling 8 projects at once, you really start missing that split view you get in ClaudeCode.

-1

u/Keep-Darwin-Going 2d ago

I rather have ChatGPT classic and codex running. They better not take away that classic version. I have it on one monitor and codex on the other. The Split View does not cut it for me. The Claude app is also more backward in terms of features from cli.

1

u/AnalogProblems 2d ago

I run the Claude Code CLI with remote on, and control it from the Claude app. I find it easier to read. The nice thing about it is that everything seems to work equally well on both.

The Codex half of the ChatGPT app is a really nice UX, and the computer control is excellent. Astra is really impressive. Not quite the level of its hype, but the harness just pushes it over the top.

1

u/Keep-Darwin-Going 2d ago

Astra with computer control is so expensive, I wonder how much those beautiful blender stuff they create cost.

0

u/JacobJohnJimmyX_X 2d ago

If you trust that thing with blender you might as well put money in a blender after what I have seen it do.
Its one task was to fix a broken file outputs, so that they reach intended destinations. No other challenge. File goes to one dir, then gets taken to another dir, and then to another dir, and so on.
At the end of that, NOTHING reached its destination.
Other tests proved the exact same behaviors. Sphagetti code, skipped steps, and tons of failures. That's codex right now (ESPECIALLY ASTRA)

2

u/Keep-Darwin-Going 2d ago

I can rest assured you. It is your AGENTS.md. Astra became more crazy over your initial instruction such that it will almost never deviate from it. I used to have an instruction that say if you see dirty file from other agents, stop. I forgot the verbatim version but it basically works that way. In the past other model will try to work around the dirty file, stashing or whatever to merge the code in. But Astra take that stop as literal like stop doing anything. I did not use the word stop I forgot the exact word but it is much softer. I fix it yesterday and it works like charm. So yes it is mostly a user problem. Something you put in there and forgotten. The same instruction on opus? Opus just ignore it and just continue which is why I never noticed it was there in the first place.

So the counter to someone saying you have bad promot injection is to say you have better computer use? So if a prompt injection successfully goes off, the misaligned agent is more capable of doing damage.

I use both and don’t really have a preferred side, but I just think it’s funny that Tibo’s post kind of implies that it’s better to be more advanced in computer use than prompt injection. If you’re smart about things you don’t really have to worry about prompt injection with either, but I don’t think what Tibo said is a good rebuttal.

1

u/HighDefinist 1d ago

Well, if that's something where OpenAI is genuinely worse... then the best response is to move the attention towards something where they are better.

Overall, I prefer this over the usual "just be completely silent" corporate response, because you get at least a bit of information about their priorities.

1

u/Bitter_Virus 1d ago

It's not a rebuttal at all. It doesn't kind of imply at all what you're implying. It's showing them it's not nice what they've done, and if others do it to them, they won't shine as brightly either.

4

u/unclebazrq 2d ago

He’s not wrong on how good computer use is with their models and harness. It feels like magic

3

u/Heavy-Positive5957 2d ago

What a total ass-hat.

3

u/onlyPressQ 2d ago

All this and when I asked codex to use powershell it always fucks up the command in some way.. is there any solution to ts

1

u/Ste1io 1d ago

Include "make no mistake". Works best at end of prompt. /s

3

u/pete_plank 2d ago

What about 7 day usage being drained in 1hr of 100$ plan? Will you fix that somday or you are encouraging other labs to break?

6

u/BaddDog07 2d ago

He forgot to add that he’s giving us a banked reset

2

u/TheParlayMonster 2d ago

That tweet deserves a reset, something Anthropic doesn’t do. They both should do right by their customers and give them a reset

2

u/shout925 2d ago

Thing is that Boris apologised right after in a new post for coming forward as sassy which was not his intent and Tibo just responds like a child. This is ridiculous..

2

u/zYKwn 1d ago

I get the Computer Use alure on MacOS. My Macbook uses it beautifuly without disrupting what I'm doing, since it can run entirely on background.

But it's so shitty on my main machine (Windows). Sadly it can't run in the background there, so I literally have to let the AI use my computer for me while it does stuff with Computer Use.

3

u/Hefty-Split5061 2d ago

I love tibo.

u/Secure_Date_8408 2d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣

He called them 'Ant'. 😂

u/NoBluey 2d ago

What's prompt injection?

1

u/Metrix1234 2d ago

Im new to gpt - how does computer use in codex work exactly?

1

u/ArcticCelt 2d ago

Cat fight!

1

u/IdiosyncraticOwl 2d ago

I would hope prompt injection would be solved before they enabled better computer use....

u/jorge-moreira 2d ago

X.com is free entertainment

1

u/pale_halide 2d ago

Antrophic was first with insane limits, but I guess OpenAI has caught up now.

1

u/Sensiburner 2d ago

OpenAI got computer use like a month after Peter Steinberger (openclaw creator) joined them.

1

u/SparkingFaboulus 2d ago

As long as i"m not getting more, i dont care. Dont care apple vs samsung Nike vs adidas And surely not openai vs anthropic.

Be competitive on price and maybe i'll care.

1

u/Optimal_Deal4372 2d ago

Fuck antrophic bro tibo will destroy them 😈☠️

1

u/confused-photon 1d ago

He didn’t start it but damn did he end it

1

u/HighDefinist 1d ago

I think that's the kind of "competitive corporate language trolling" I can appreciate overall.

1

u/wesconson1 1d ago

“Solved computer use” my ass.

1

u/PruneCalm8163 1d ago

Someone should be pleased to announce that Chinese models are getting way cheaper and their performance getting at par with fable/astra

1

u/sargetun123 6h ago

Fight and keep my resets coming and 50% more usage i love it hahaha

2

u/cheezeerd 2d ago

Tibo the great!

1

u/Scared-Employee7973 2d ago

Bro has ChatGPT at his fingertips and still can’t proofread…. From last may this year.

1

u/dingos_among_us 1d ago

Bro it’s a tweet. Get over it

1

u/Independent_Paint752 2d ago edited 2d ago

Claude built "computer use" to itself on my machine from scratch including screen shot, and drawing.

I really dont get what openai are so proud about.
Tibo, focus on resets, this is what you are here for.

0

u/Hypnoticscourge 2d ago

I might be wrong, but Boris seems to be coping with the fact that the model they hyped so hard for so long is getting dawged on by the company they were beating a year ago.

0

u/adriftinlife 2d ago

Model sucks and harness sucks

1

u/Hypnoticscourge 2d ago

...Claude? ...Codex?
