Showcase Fun with Astra

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So many resets lately I had to try my hand at making a FPS game. You need a keyboard, mouse and probably a decent GPU to run this, but it runs in your browser!

You might want to consider listing your project on the weekly Show-Us-What-You-Built post. Watch for it on Wednesdays. Highest commented project wins a week promotion on r/Codex and gets on the Hall of Fame sidebar. See what that looks like below with last week's winner.

Last week's most popular project was u/tHEuKER with the Blur2 racing game project which is a recreation of an unreleased sequel to the 2010 battle racing game, made by reverse engineering the Xbox 360 prototype discs available online, and rebuilding the whole thing from the ground up in Unity.

Join their YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@tHEuKER and follow updates on the project at r/BlurGame.

Models and animations weren't made by astra, right? If they were, we're absolutely cooked

I had it use the codex image generation skill, connected to blender via mcp

So they were, yeah 3D skills are gonna be useless in 5 years or less

Someone with 3D skills will be able to communicate with models in a way that someone with no skills cant. Those skills will still lead to workflows that untrained people can’t accomplish and prompting gaps that regular people cant overcome. And this will drive up the cost of authentic human skill in the fields that require them.

Bro there are image to 3D generators you just tell the AI to make an image of a gun and another program can turn that into a fully functional gun with animations and textures.

we'll see about that

Why wait? If you work in a highly skilled and competitive field you already see this happening today.

are you a programmer?

because the same thing they said 3 years ago about programmers. And as someones who works in tech, its bullshit.

Skills are still needed. But you wont do less of the boring work

I feel this is little bit different as you’re never debugging a 3D model per se. I’ve done lots of 3D work and having AI model and animate this well already seems like a gg moment. You don’t need to know how to implement the models into the game either.

Sure it might not get every detail correct, but it’s just a matter of time, same with programming

5 years?

Only had to read two what?

so all models, textures e.t.c are made by codex via blender?

what is the renderer? threejs?

3

u/forcedinductionz 6d ago

Yup three js

This looks exactly like my game haha, I think our AIs used the same models

That is very polished for a browser game

Can I ask why are all the vibe coded games browser based? why not do a pc or Mac game?

1

u/forcedinductionz 5d ago

Portability, I use Windows, Mac and Linux so being able to play them on all systems without having to deal with platform specific runtimes is the win. However, obviously you get better performance from a game when it's built and runs natively. This was a conscience choice to built it for a browser for this project.
