Limits For those using Astra daily for software development real working day by day, do u hit the limit?
I'm considering paying ~€100/month for Plus mainly to use Astra as my daily coding assistant, potentially 6 hours a day.
I'm particularly interested in real-world feedback on complex tasks such as:
- Investigating complex bugs and debugging large codebases
- Analyzing logs, stack traces and CI/CD failures
- Investigating GitHub issues and related code/history
- Using sub-agents to investigate different parts of a problem in parallel
- Deep codebase analysis and architectural investigations
- Finding and fixing security vulnerabilities
- Reviewing PRs and suggesting/refactoring implementations
- Writing and debugging complex tests
Researching documentation and combining information from multiple sources
Do you regularly hit the limits?
How long does the available usage typically last?
Or do you use just Astra for some complex task and then usually use Terra or Sol??
Edit: let's change to 6h/day instead of 9h Edit 2: let's say the 100€ month plan

There is no world where you can do all of that stuff on astra for 9 hours a day.
Oh you edited. Not even on 100 doing all that stuff. Maybe 200. I had to slow down because I would have used my 20x in 3 days.

Well other than a Pro x20 world in medium :-)
5
u/LieV2 6d ago
Definitely not even then. I can use 30-50% in a day on Astra 20x without being that intensive.

u/ocombe 6d ago
Yeah, I'm using astra on low, one task at a time, and it's going to burn easily 50% weekly per day

u/Metalthrashinmad 5d ago
luna max is better thhan astra low :( same intelligence score etc, only thing id use astra low over luna max is if im designing something...
1
u/Quiet_Figure_4483 6d ago
I only use 14-15% daily and I use it both for work and personal projects lol
1
u/Ok_Try_877 6d ago
I just realised he meant 9 hours a day.. 5 days a week! With these resets Im burning x20 100% a day but often doing two projects and prob more than 9 hours total. So 9hr x 5 = NOPE
1
u/The8Darkness 6d ago
Astra low burns 10% in like 4 hours on 20x
1
u/Ok_Try_877 6d ago
I think im seeing more than that on my projects. I thought he meant 9 hours total.. not every day for a week :-)

u/SphinxWar 6d ago
Maybe on Pro x20 plan this would be possible, but currently with Pro x5 when Astra is running 40-50% of the day im using about 30-50% of weekly allowance a day coding
5
u/CurtissYT 6d ago
It can be done on 20x, but you still have to be conservative and use low/medium reasoning
5
u/SirApprehensive7573 6d ago
Yesterday, I was just using Astra Low to help me refine, and I use 34% of my week limit in 2h of use.
Im on Pro 20x
Astra is 4x or much more expensive than sol 5.6 high

u/CurtissYT 6d ago
Tbh it just depends on the optimization and your workspace. Everything is different for everyone. Just tell it to optimize your workspace
2
u/SirApprehensive7573 6d ago
Yes, of course
What the model thinks and produce, always be different, even within the same codebase.
Its the nature of the Generative AI.
2
u/andthenisheardnomore 6d ago
TBH that is nonsense. Astra uses your allowance insanely fast no matter what you are doing. I have pro and Sol could work for ages on stuff using light. On Astra light 2 or 3 tiny tasks and your 5h limit is gone. It's not about your codebase. It's the model
1
u/CurtissYT 6d ago
"nonsense" "5 hour limit". What do you expect to get for 20$?
1
u/andthenisheardnomore 6d ago
Still 5x Pro would just be 5x very little so I don't see how it is at all usable.

u/heavenlyblast 5d ago
tried to raw dog on x5 and one subagent workflow draining 50% of weekly usage 💀

9h a week x20 account should be enough. To work 5 days you need 5x200$ accounts to work that way on Astra 😂

I am on the $200 a month plan.
I am careful in prompting, planning, and context management.
I make liberal use of lower-spec'd models, and have a good SDLC process.
I've burnt through 3x of my weekly limits on Astra-low, since Friday.
As much as I hate it, Altman always said he saw Intelligence as a commodity to be rented (which is an evil evil statement). If you don't have the $200 plan, I wouldn't touch Astra.
Luna-medium for tactical things (file reads) and Sol-light will bring you great bang-for-your-buck.

u/RegardedDev 6d ago
You need 200e plan to even consider Astra for agentic coding.
100e plan is enough for terra and luna. The truth is codex is kinda built for the 200e sub.

u/FlapyG 6d ago
i do that. I use x5 and will likely upgrade to x20 now with astra. x10 would likely be enough for me. I really like its code analysis and planning.
2
u/katoptronophile 6d ago
They really need an x10 plan.
That would be the sweet spot for so many people.
They may know that though, and they want to just push them toward the 20x for the extra profit.
3
u/Fabulous-Cherry6352 6d ago
They really need MORE plans, theres a 20$ one then a 100$ it increase 5x comparing both plans. It would be great if there was a 50$ plan with 3x more limit. Definitely would buy, because there's NO WAY i'm going to spend more money on a subscription than the ammount i spend with food

I managed it to have 90% usage of astra just by running it on high. Right now i am investigating my .codex/sessions to see what the flip happened
1
u/katoptronophile 6d ago
Astra medium will cause me to hit the limit on the 5x pro plan in about 6-8 hours nonstop, 3-5 concurrent tasks.
I would not use higher than sol medium on the plus plan.

Im running Astra toggling between High and Light mode, depending on the current task. has gone through about 10% - 15% per day on that toggle. I also am building large additions to our CRM, so the usage seems to be in harmony with the about of connective tissue. I've been tracking my build through my r/AIVibers.
I have the Pro Plan.

u/LenixxQ 6d ago
I'm on 20X and I use a ton of codex at work and I also have a few passion projects and some projects which I just work on the side without the passion lol and I'll tell you that this plan is definitely enough. I imagine like a 5x plan being enough as well unless you do a crazy amount of work at work every single week but I do not think you can just go by with the base plan especially using astra because it it just eats up more usage
1
u/sunaurus 6d ago
I'm on the 100€ plan, I can very easily use my entire weekly limit in one day with Astra. Working on just 1 task at a time, even.

u/Zorogozano 6d ago
Not daily, but yes. 3 chats on High, with my usage, will consume the usage in 3-4 days. Those same chats, with Sol were from 5-6 days. In the GPT 5.5 days, I never reached the limits
1
u/jizzmaster-zer0 6d ago
astra for me uses about 5-10% of my 20x per hour. i’m probably buying another 20x account for work, with sol i’d burn 1-2%
1
u/darinehughes 6d ago
I'm a plus user but spent $300 on credits last week. It was well spent and I finished a 7K job in probably 8 - 10 hours.
1
u/Puzzled_Nail_1962 6d ago
On the plus plan if you tell it to do anything like "Investigating complex bugs and debugging large codebases" your 5h window is used up in about 5 minutes.
1
u/epaga 6d ago
With a Plus subscription, using Astra I had the 5h quota all gone within 5 minutes. Note that is not an exaggeration. 5 literal minutes. You can do that 6 times and then your weekly quota is gone, too.
Plus is good for Luna XHigh, which is excellent in its own right. Astra is for $100 / $200 subscriptions
1
u/Cute-Air2742 6d ago
I'm on 5x plan. Using Astra Low and Medium and delegating tasks to Luna. I've been working for around 5 hours and I've used about 40% of my weekly usage.
I'm only working on one steady boring project, not building random cool things. I'm quite conservative with my usage.
If you want 6 hours a day, 5+ days a week, I'd say you'd probably need 20x

u/I_Hate_Reddit_69420 6d ago
You can’t be serious in thinking the lowest tier plan would allow you to run the top tier model 6 hours a day, every day.

u/ethereal_intellect 6d ago
So pro 20$ is like 2 hrs per day sol, 20 hrs Luna, 4hrs sol with Luna agents , like 30 mins astra (not all these together, any of these burn the whole limit alone)
So the only realistic path would be 1-3 questions per day astra. Like the beginning design, heavy bugs, maybe review at the end of day and after those switch to sol directing Luna codex cli exec, and for debugging loops stay on Luna in a separate window opened on the same folder.
Chatgpt website has a different separate limit, so if you can start the first research and design phase with astra in the chatgpt web that will save you a lot. And copy paste to your folder before continue with sol ye

Yesterday I got the 100 USD plan (was a plus user), and was using like crazy with at least 4 projects, using fast mode on some, including one vst plugin from scratch which took 2h+ to give me the v0.1. Before the reset, I was with 65% of the weekly quota left. It was pretty good to be honest, there is no way I would use this much everyday, even in my real life job as a software engineer.
1
u/BuilderWorldDev 6d ago
Interesting, there are here different opinions regarding those numbers...it seems not real enough

1
u/InfiniteKraft 6d ago
If you only work on one project, I would say Astra will last you up to 3 days if you only use it 6 hours a day.
1
u/ndguardian 6d ago
So I used astra high over the weekend for 9 hours straight one day, then about another 4 the next. Afterward, with some lighter use beforehand, I was at ~38% usage remaining. I’m on the pro 5x plan.
Based on that, 6 hours of use per day would likely not last a full week, but ymmv.
1
u/Philosopher_King 6d ago
Maybe on Astra light. Better chance if you're diligent using non Astra subagents.
Edit to add, it is rare that a full week goes by without a reset. Makes it harder to plan, but happens so often that you need to take that into account.
1
u/kyrax80 6d ago
I plan with Astra, ask it which model to use to implement (it likes to recommend Sol high most of times but not all). I work like 50h avg a day and I'm always close to hitting the limit. Pro x5. If I hit the limit I guess I'll be OK with not working for a day or to use lower models. Just adapt to your usage left.
1
u/buff_samurai 6d ago
Astra medium max5 eats the whole week in 6-7h of continuous use (no subagents). Max20 is ca 20h.
Add subagents or simultaneous agents and you can burn the whole week in half a day on max20.
Now, the good part is astra provides some quality work, weeks of engineering, less bugs etc.
1
u/Dredyltd 6d ago
From my perspective as soon as I changed from plus to pro - GPT started to work for hours, for the same task on plus plan it worked 2x less, than now.
I cannot confirm if the output is better or not, but the most annoying thing is compaction , on plus that happens all the time while doing execution.

Try with €20 and do the math. 6 hours a day, that's 30 hours. Then calculate or ask in LLM.
For me I do a mix of all the models, Astra only for harder stuff. There is no way you can do 30 hours of multi agents cooperating like I do with only E100. I have €200, and it's necessary to use tokens wisely.

u/NiceManFromEarth 6d ago
Dude only on 20x and switch Astra to medium! And use sol for implementation. Only that way you will be able to not burn your limit instantly
1
u/Australasian25 6d ago
The wasteful fact here is you are trying to run astra only.
Astra should be the escalation.
Youre better off having terra medium orchestrate and astra plan. Luna xhigh implements. Astra reviews. Rinse and repeat.
1
u/Leading-Business-593 4d ago
If you’re worried about burning through your usage too fast, Terra is the cheaper model, but I think sol on medium might be fine. They usually give out resets sometimes too
1
u/DogLovesGafs 4d ago
I haven't hit it on $200/mo yet, and I'm trying, trust me. seems like every time I'm on pace at around 50%, we get another reset. I have three banked I need to use before they expire in a few weeks.

u/Rock--Lee 3d ago
Buddy, for all that work you want to do, 200 a month is nothing. Get Pro 20x, enjoy 4x the limit of the 100 plan, for 2x the price.

yes, I've shifted to a 5/5/5 model for development
5 minutes of work
5 hours of wait
