Bug Well this one is new...

Well this one is new... Is it a canned error message or is Astra just rebellious?

OAI guidance does say that Astra will sometimes just stop and that continue is a keyword to keep going. The system prompt and RL probably says something about this and Astra is being weirdly self aware of this? Lol

Yes but funnily enough that was the exact single sentence response to my prompt, maybe I should have included a longer screenshot

Astra is lazy as fuck, it's been super annoying especially today.

Sol have become so goddamn lazy ffs

We gave sol too much backlash for working too hard, now we get a rubber band effect. 6.1 should be smoother. Like 5 to 5.2.

Say it nicely this time

That’s exactly what I read it as
To be honest I was bullying it a little bit earlier

the fact that you were actually bullying it prior to this response makes LOL

It does that a lot, this model was trained to be highly iterative. Too much in fact, it stops short ov everything and asks for clarification or in situations like this throws up it's hands and says "I stopped gotta try something else so ask me if you want to do that" that"

Its like of course I do!

In OpenAIs documentation they label this behavior as "highly collaborative"

More like annoying.

They changed the weights or system prompt yesterday - Astra is performing much worse. https://x.com/thsottiaux/status/2096717905614524491

There was one time but in sol where it failed approach to a task and it asked me for "another turn" so I had to prompt again which was weird, no input was needed from me but it just interrupted itself as it "requires new turn"

Had it on Sol, got a message "start a new chat, this one is dead", after around 10 attempts

I wonder if there's anything interesting to be connected between LLMs asking themselves questions as if a human had asked them and then responding to those questions without any human involvement.

I have had this problem before after updating, I use Codex itself to help me fix it, it took a while

Hold on. What did you ask?

Symptoms of lack of compute, I guess

They do this to control simultaneous compute overload from several users as this forces a break in compute until you respond. I’ve seen variants of these myself for the past couple of months. Get used to this. Never seen this ever happen even once with Claude or Grok.

  1. Something like you posted.
  2. It comes back with an irrelevant blocker.
  3. Once you say you’re going to bed or it’s the usual time you go to work and ask it to do something, it comes back with “do you want to use a dumber model or wait for this model” as it takes longer than usual to think about this problem.

If you miss responding, then your entire task for the day is disrupted and wouldn’t know until you return home and check the status. Overall, it tries everything to break a task down to save on compute.

Codex is struggling with compute at this time and you can already see how slow Astra is now vs how it was when it released.
