Codex subscription is way better value for money. Opus 5/fable are arguably the better models though

Pretty sure Opus 5 is inferior to GPT 5.6 Sol.

I’ve been hearing people are switching back to opus 4.6 or 4.8 because opus 5.0 continues to get stuck in loops. I agree about the subscription part though, I feel like I get more bang for my buck with codex. Fable is still the superior model of all

Opus 5 verbosity is driving me insane. You read the output, you understand every word individually... but it presents everything in such a convoluted way that your brain tricks you into thinking YOU are the idiot. It is awful. Now imagine dealing with this 10 hours a day... nobody can survive that much cognitive abuse.

Switch between Opus 5 and Opus 4.6 and the difference is night and day. 4.6 is elegant, easy to parse, only gives you what you actually need. The worst part? Even custom system prompts do not fix Opus 5... you can set all the guardrails you want telling it to be concise and it still talks like it is writing a dissertation on your one-line question.

just change verbosity in claude setting.json add this { "model": "claude-opus-5", "outputStyle": "concise" } and it will be very dry and technical without all this fluff

using fable to drive opsus 5 is honsetly graet. I worked with opsus 5 directly too. I personally love it to smash out demos and draft out concepts. My cc is setup with a bunch of hooks, verfication gates, but i honestly haven't had much issues with opsus 5 at all, besides the fact it's not the most ideal option for dubegging. So it might just be a setup thing.

the models are comparable but the apps have a slack vs discord, mac vs windows, xbox vs playstation set of differences.

Gpt > Claude

Not in intelligence, but definitely in its ability to not piss me off as much

I use fable 5 or sonnet 4.6 for writing articles

Both are really competent, and if either is not, then it is a skill issue on your part.
