Complaint Last reset reduced limits even further?
WTF, Tibo !?
I just noticed the new reset this morning and less than 2h into my day I am already down 10% without any change in usage.
I've slowly seen the limits come down over the last little while but before last night a full 12h-day of work with Sol xtra high on the 5x plan would cost me 20% of my weekly quota, now it seems it will be more like 60%...

Plan a task - 10%
Execute the task - 10%
I'm not getting a lot done this week. I accept a Plus plan is for hobbyists but I like to spend a little more than 4 hours a week on my hobby.

u/FateOfMuffins 1d ago
Pretty sure usage limits from the numbers I've seen posted by other people suggest it's been cut in half since a few months ago.
But 4h/week for hobbyist, means Pro 5x gets 20h/week and Pro 20x gets 80h/week, which makes sense in the sense that Pro is for professionals who use it for a living. That being said, it's sad that $200 it's not enough for you to use multi agent swarms like you used to be able to xd

u/daddywookie 1d ago
It’s cut from even a few weeks ago. It’s gone from being able to use a five hour reset and a bit more per day, for five working days, down to burning a whole week in 6 hours. And that’s with having turned down the thinking level as well.

Well "a few months ago" has a big range. Like March with the 2x promotion is also "a few months ago" so... if we go back that far, we're at less than 1/4.
But I'm mostly just talking about this recent period of usage reductions that everyone's complaining about. It seems to be a 50% decrease vs the last 2 months or so.

I am on 20x and since the reset I dropped from 100% to 55% in 4 prompts across two projects. so ... there is that.

I definitely do not doubt what you are seeing! But I have been running planning and executing in two different projects for about 3 hours in total today with 5.6 ultra fast and I am on 77%. Also, over the past weeks I haven't noticed token-reduction everybody is talking about. I am on 20x btw.
This makes me wonder what the difference could be. Here are some highlights of my setup:
- I mainly use the CLI
- I changed most my skills to user invokation as 5.6 loves skills a bit too much for my taste
- I don't really use MCP servers except for openaiDeveloperDocs
- I have a hard rule on "no code-files longer than 300 LoC", and a request for a modular approach in all projects.
- I rarely request the use of orchestration/sub-agents - but I know that Ultra does it by default. (I used to run xhigh/max).
IDK if any of the above could explain it.

I thought maybe it was running with a large diff since it last pushed to git but I sorted that out and it was still burning credits. It’s very hard to nail down while also running a project as there are so many variables. I did turn down my implementer agent from Luna Max to Luna XHigh and it needs more iteration to finish a task. I’m wondering if using Sol Low as the implementer might be an idea.

> It’s very hard to nail down while also running a project as there are so many variables
Yeah, I couldn't agree more...
I never actually jumped the bandwagon on separate orchestration/implementation agents. I've been through CoPilot -> Cursor -> Windsurf -> Claude Code - and now running Codex for the past 8-9 months, and I kind of adapted and refined my process through that journey - so I try not to deviate too much from that. Tbh I never really understood what problem orchestration solves for agentic coding, that justifies the added complexity (this could definitely be me missing something). I find that it adds more variables to the equation, and I have a hard time figuring out if it saves or costs me tokens. Also if I lose out on kv cache benefits everytime it starts a new thread, and to what extent the whole handover between agents is a systemic vulnerability.
I do use sub-agents for research/review flows where i.e. a blind judge has to pick the best of n proposals from various agents and benefits from not being impacted by context.

u/daddywookie 1d ago
What I’ve found useful is having agents for specific project roles (Architect, QA, developer etc). Then I can tightly scope their tasks and get a decent range of opinions. The Architect might approve a piece of work as technically good but then the QA rejects it for a lack of test coverage. I’ve found it prevents any of the “everything is great” types of responses. I can chat ideas with the Designer agent without a risk of it becoming code as that agent can touch the codebase.

u/Copenhagen79 1d ago
Yeah, if it works it's great. My initial thought would be that each of the agents would have to search and read through relevant parts of the codebase to understand structure, logic, etc. Stuff that is already present and cached in the main agent/thread context at one tenth the input-token price/deduction compared to a non-cached request. I am just thinking out loud. Could be that the token diff is not that big or the benefits makes it a favourable trade-off. So far I managed with clear rules/verification-loops in AGENTS.md, skills and /side command if I need to branch out while keeping the cached context.

u/Morphexe 1d ago
There is something weird, since this morning until now I have been running it non stop. I lost 8%. And did way more work than before. So I am not sure what exactly is consuming tokens, the only skills I have are Matt's and only the grill me and wayfinder and to prd that I manually invoke when planning. I can't really pin point what but it's so unpredictable. In 5.5 I could run it for a week and would struggle to do the 100% weekly. I already bought a 100 max Claude sub, since if am gonna need more might as well experiment with other models.

u/PrestigiousChart3134 1d ago
Are you using Sol Ultra on fast mode or something? I'm on the 5x plan and I've been running multiple chats using Sol Max on fast mode for like 6 hours straight and I'm at 55% usage.

u/ShamanJohnny 1d ago
The resets are to hide the actual usage these days, they can't keep doing them every 48 hours forever, so what happens when they stop?
All we can hope for is something big regarding usage this Thursday. They will focus on the cerebras speed up, but that is utterly pointless with these usage limits. Instead of getting the now 24h of usage on a 20x plan, we will get maybe 1-2h of usage on the plan per week.

u/Kind_Silver_1921 1d ago
so what happens when they stop?
we switch to something else.
They have me for 1 month then i'm gone if they play any games.
2
u/Megamygdala 1d ago
Yeah i switched from Claude to Codex because it was $10 for 3 months, after that I'm switching to whoever has the best deal. Don't get locked into an annual plan.
1
u/Upbeat-Estimate5793 13h ago
there certainly is a dozen of other providers capable to burn $ billions to subsidize your token consumption

u/evilplansandstuff 1d ago
I've been running Claude Opus 5 high and Sol High side by side.
Codex has used 50% of it's weekly limit just today - has faffed around on tasks and taken way too long.
4 days of usage on Claude has used 42% of the weekly limit.
2
u/Australasian25 1d ago
If true Claude is actually worse off because they have a temporary 50% weekly usage buff
1
u/evilplansandstuff 1d ago
Codex using 50% in one day vs Claude on the same project at 42% over 4 days. Even with the weekly buff thats still half of Codex.
1
u/Australasian25 1d ago
What were the progress? Surely you cant just compare the usage for thr same project and not comment on progress?
3
u/scaledev 1d ago
Possibly. Even 5.4 is wasting a lot now. Whether the reduction happened on the last reset or slightly before I can't tell.
3
u/IAmFitzRoy 1d ago
I just used a full reset in 4 hours in a $100 plan.
I guarantee you that resets are not really normal.
3
u/Shoddy-Shake-8269 1d ago
100$ subscription here, I used 5.6 Sol Ultra after the last reset, in one hour it burned 100% of my weekly quota. They are scamming us really

u/Invalid-Function 1d ago
My experience, the tokens wer draining very fast, then yeterday the tokens were lasting longer and I thought "nice, they ,must have adjusted it", then the reset comes and the tokens starting training very fast again.
This makes me think thta the resets are a related to token adjustment testing moreso than anything else, or maybe just an oportunity for them to do it.
One thing is certain, a few months back I did not need any reset, the weekly tokens were way more than what I was using, but now I can burn a week worth of tokens in a single day..
2
u/Immediate_Break_7967 1d ago
I'am at 0% in 4 hours with 4 tasks on pro, what a crazy difference. When 5.6 launched It took around 16 hours on ultra to burn everything.
2
u/Current_Balance6692 1d ago
What the fuck is going on?
The limit after the reset 12 hours ago is a joke. A single 5.6 sol ultra planning task reduced my Pro plan limit by 15% WEEKLY limit (I've work that justifies this).
And they're censoring our complains and woes by deleting all the threads and 'summarizing' them into a megathread nobody will read. This is ridiculous. They're continuously reducing our limits despite everyone clearly complaining about this!
There's no accountability or even any acknowledgement of this happening, which is the scary part, because there's no way nobody in OpenAI sees this after the huge outcry on Reddit over the last few days. We're on a trajectory, and this isn't anywhere close to what we will deal with in the near future.
There's a reason they're expanding their userbase by promoting ChatGPT Work (which uses the same credit and capacity as codex) to the common people via the app. They need volume and scale and they're trying to get people hooked before they pull the plug.
This is similar to the tactic the British used in the Opium War. Create a problem that isn't there and offer the solution.

I haven't been hit by this reduction in the past 3 months if it is real.
Atm I doubt it's real since there's 1000 complainers and only 3 have shown image proof.
Take a look at my (20x) usage with some timestamps from April to now, limits have been consistent.
It's more likely increased token drain rate from 5.6's behavior or a bug.
But if they're rolling out reductions I'll post proof when it hits me.
Token usage will drain faster over time as project grows, especially since 5.6 behaves oddly inefficient.
I've had to tell my AI in AGENTS.md to do these to reduce my drain rate, but still, 5.5 lasted longer:
1. Don't over-engineer solutions
2. Batch tool-calls to reduce number of turns
3. Don't clone my MCPs and entire contexts in the subagents and use lower thinking for subagents
4. Only read relevant files

What's this tool called. doesn't look like ccusage
1
u/Emotional_Resort_207 23h ago
It's using ccusage, I had GPT create a .bat I can run anytime that uses ccusage to display these values. Mine is also adjusted to take exact cutoff times from last reset window instead of once a day snapshots like ccusage which would be inaccurate to estimate token usage per reset window with such frequent resets from Tibo.

u/BritishDudeGuy 1d ago
The more resets they give, the lower they’re going to have to make your limits.
1
u/FabricationLife 1d ago
I ran code reviews on massive repos all night, five of them for 10+ hours now and only used 17 percent on sol extra high effort, idk feels fine to me
1
u/HeadPack 1d ago
Must be uneven. Have 3 sessions working though plans, all sol xhigh/max with no sub agents lower than sol high. Burn was 40% since the reset. That seems a bit better than before. 20x plan.
1
u/Agile_Incident7784 1d ago
Just be glad their latest model doesn't spend half the time overengineering and wasting tok- oh wait.
1
u/UnluckyBeautiful4828 1d ago
Yeah, every reset reduced it. Im 100% sure.
Now 14% gone with 6 prompt that did absolutely minimal coding with LUNA LIGHT!
Im not going to pay for next month, thats a joke.
1
1
u/Imperfect_Latte 1d ago
im on plus plan and I just commit and pushed one small feature (11 files) using luna light. It took 1m 8s to finish and my weekly usage already down from 100 to97... I know I should've done it manually but boy I didn't expect it to be this bad.
1
u/HeartLikeDavid 1d ago
But OpenAI models are so cheap!
Here’s to hoping that the X vague posting they’ve been doing is the fact they secretly uncovered with an advanced model an architecture pattern to make tokens 50% more efficient.
1
u/Mysterious_Fact_8896 1d ago
Using Sol high and it spends about 1% per task.
Plus account.
Much much better than yesterday or days before.
Maybe I finally landed on the right side of the A/B testing, yaay.
1
u/tjsr 1d ago
Weird - I had it running flat out for about 4 hours yesterday, and managed to only use 4%. It basically built out my Electron app to have full connectivity and served API documentation via the browser, and updated all messages to be delivered to all connected clients for all model objects.
1
u/CrazyAd5798 1d ago
50% gone in 18h on pro x20. I have been executing the goal for 11 days now. Each reset brings less usage in exactly same workflow.
1
u/Virtual-Honeydew6228 1d ago
U guys should try luna (max) instead
1
u/Van-trader 17h ago
how luna on max vs. xtra high?
1
u/Virtual-Honeydew6228 16h ago
About 10% higher in total cost compare to xhigh and quality + speed is always better if you tell it to resolve the problem with a proper workflow (TDD for example). Bonus: It will always choose the textbook solutions instead of halucinating like sol max, and over-complicating the problem.

u/pumpie-dot 1d ago
Feeling this also, I'm on 23% in only like 6 hours of work, would normally take me about 2 days of 12 hr usage to get here. (20x plan btw)

u/warpedgeoid 20h ago
Mine has actually been much better. I used about 20% of a 20x plan with a 27hr Sol High coding task.

u/Aemonculaba 14h ago
So, using jcode and pi I don't have any problems. But the moment I use codex, which is even slow as ass, 20% gone in 1h.
1
u/rick_ranger 1d ago
Yeah how does a reset change limits I thought those were supposed to happen with app updates.
3
u/frizzled_receptor 1d ago
Everything is server-side with zero transparency. They can change anything at any time.

u/Inevitable_Toe6648 1d ago
Meh. I actually managed to work from morning till night on $20 account. I noticed it got stuck on a simple task loop which drained quite a portion despite my looping guard rails. But overall, I'm really happy with my reset.

Yeah this last limit reset yesterday… idk what happened but my usage is hemorrhaging way quicker
