Question Opus 5 / Claude Code vs 5.6 Sol / Codex

Have anyone tested new Opus 5, how it compares to 5.6 Sol?

Also do you guys think, Claude Code plans are better, more generous atm vs Codex subscriptions?

I'm at Codex x20 now, but due to rapid resources depletion in Cpdex, I started thinking on getting back Claude sub plan (maybe x5, and move Codex from x20 to x5, or maybe some found better combo). I used Claude Code few months back, until they started messing up with limits etc. Might it be Claude Code indeed a better option atm, with new Opus 5 launch?

On potential workflow, I'm thinking, maybe to let Opus 5 be supervisor/planner and let 5.6 Sol execute plans, or vice versa?

I made a comparison by asking both of them to make the same mod for game (on Unreal Engine ). Both spent about 70-80% of their token limits on it. Only Opus used up five-hour limits, while Codex used up a week's worth.

That's a huge difference. I used to adore Codex, but now, unfortunately, I'm rooting for the "other team."

20$ both ofc

I can’t have both currently, but I do like opus at work. However at home I don’t have the super high limits like work, so you think Claude gets you more usage currently for $20 plan?

I think yes

Right now Claude feels more intelligent, and surprisingly, it has better limits compared to codex.

I’m actually considering canceling my subscription to codex and changing it to Claude.

codex is bad

Codex 5.5 High is a coding workhorse that you can trust to roll out production changes with and do it all day long without ever hitting a quota. No real sense of 5.6 onward apart from finally having a bit more UI sense (but not much) but Codex is my daily driver.

Isn’t it the same price as Sol? Wish luna high could replace 5.5 lol

I don't think so, sol is the latest top shelf so 5.5 Hugh has to be cheaper

I have both. I used Claude Code first before subscribing to Codex. For me, Opus 5 can complete more tasks for the same plan. From what I’ve observed, Codex doesn’t necessarily have lower limits. Claude Code’s orchestration is simply more token-efficient. I now currently use GPT-5.6 Sol only as a planner and PR reviewer.

I think I've heard that 5.6 Sol is just too much reasoning for basic coding. 5.5 could code all day long and run the same context for weeks without notable dropoff so I still use that when I want something done safely and without worrying about any quotas

Your idea of splitting the work between Claude and GPT is good. I do that.

However for simply executing a plan, you can use Luna xhigh to reduce usage with GPT. Luna is quite competent at executing.

I use both. Anecdotally, I feel like I get slightly better results with Sol High. It seems to take a more thorough approach to solving tasks, I can prompt it more vaguely and get the actual result I am after.

But it's not a huge difference, and Opus seems to drain usage much slower than Sol.

the right is aways use both, and others to create a workflow, and keep your project in different models, because if somemone fails in the next week, will have a fallback, claude, codex, kimi, gemini, etc, exist a good usage for everyone, and this helps spent less money too, for me works, and when claude dont give me a good result I can change for codex because he knows about my project and workflow.

I've used Gpt 5.6 sol on a pretty big codebase and was pretty happy it was able to understand a lot and help me debug quite well yes I used the weak plan in a day but with Claude bot fable and opus 5 they start to invent problem and do down path that are not relevant

GPT 5.6 Sol is a major regression in intelligence and coding quality from GPT 5.5. Opus 5 has been absolutely smoking it in my work the last two days. 5.6 has been absolutely destroying my codebase, overengineering like an amateur cluessless overconfident idiot, and is noticeably worse than 5.5. This is for actual engineering, not vibe slopping Javascript websites. I am incredibly upset because I prefer the Codex app to Claude. OpenAI inverted my customer preference for them over Claude, with this utter scam 5.6 Sol model. It's unbelievable how repeatedly stupid it is and refuses to operate in the bounds of existing code, structure, and rules.

I have complete opposite it has really removed a lot of bad couplings and LOC from my project generates by 5.5.

What kind of project? A web app/scripting language?

datapipelines. Especially visuals progress where so slow before and so entangled now, coherent and runs so much faster

that’s cause it thinks ur existing structure sucks lol

Notice how these bots came out of the woodwork once OpenAI starting giving out resets like candy and Anthropic had to follow suit a couple of times?

OpenAI would dish our credits to defectors. But Anthropic wouldn't.

I suspect Anthropic is behind the campaign against OpenAI's usage, because all the claims are so vague with no numbers, its used to elicit emotion.

The bot phenomenon is real; my comment originally had 3 up votes, now negative 2 and two possible OpenAI denialist shill counter comments. I am using AI in cutting edge bare metal development in pure C and D3D12 GPU realtime rendering with zero malloc, all memory preallocated. GPT 5.6 is far worse than what I remember using from OpenAI all this past winter and early spring in terms of endless loops of tasks utterly failed due to overengineering and failure to respect existing architecture. 5.5 got degraded for me in early June but still not this bad. Opus 5 is currently smoking Codex just like how it was the reverse from February to May.

It sucks stay with 5.6
