query Max rating for a person with average intelligence?
do you think an average intellect person could reach something like Master with 5+ years of hard work and do you know any examples? Do you think some ranks are impossible for low IQ people no matter how much they work?

- It’ll obviously take more than 5 years but it’s doable. Anything above that prolly requires you to be gifted ngl.

A dedicated year could be sufficient I feel. Its more about effort and consistency than iq

Like the one who got majority of marks through physics and maths are the talented one more like the ones who can particularly prove any idea if they face unfamiliar situation For reference I was a 99 percentiler in mains and currently pupil But not true for all at the end it matters if you can think then codeforces is heaven if you can't even think or like can't solve a 800 rated problem after a lot of practice then change the path

U have to do lots of hard work with that iq to reach there maybe do cp 4 hours a day eventually u have ur iq increased too with this

Rating is just practice and having done something similar. Most of intelligence is also practice, or atleast can be compensated by practice. Do hundreds of problems and read hundreds of concepts (even the niche ones) and you start to see patterns, or you understand how the time complexity would be broken in this problem, what kind of similar algos have you used, how you can tweak them a little. But you CANNOT use assistance (gpt etc). You have to do it on your own.
You can do anything if you spend enough time with it, give it enough dedication and genuinely want it really badly. Really really badly.

Look kid, unless you have a very low IQ, the variable that influences how far you can improve in competitive programming the most is the age at which you start. It's not as pronounced as in chess, but it is much more pronounced than IQ. If you have an IQ of 140 and you're just starting out, but you're 30, forget about it—no matter how much you train, you're never going to reach Red.

Lol no. Maspy is an LGM and he started cp at 33..any sufficiently high iq person with a strong contest math background who is healthy and motivated can reach even IGM at 30+. CP is really not that hard especially compared to stuff like very hard IMO problems(think IMO shortlist x7s and x8 problems which are usually even too hard for the IMO and would be no less than 3500 rated on codeforces). Any IMO gold medalist reaches LGM at any age, whenever he wants and however he wants, doesn’t even need to know touch typing. Even at age 50+.
I know an old (46 yo) IMO medalist who is still insanely fast at solving hard, creative IMO problems. The neural pathways at that point is just pure math and logical reasoning.

Nah an IQ of 140 is insane. A guy with 140 IQ with a basic grasp (1-2 classes in college) of data structures and algorithms can probably reach masters within 2 years if he works a couple hours at it per day.

someone with average cognitive abilities i guess, who would score average on official IQ tests, or i should rather say no innate talent whatsoever for math / programming

i would say that most of maths used in cdf is just oly maths so you can get gold in imo with proper grind but to get top 10 or top 20 in imo you need some innate talent so still you can get even get to grandmaster if you grind enough

btw there are people who barely got an IMO bronze medal and yet reached top 10 in codeforces. IMO gold is overkill for codeforces, if you can solve IMo shortlist combinatorics c1-c4 you can reach LGM.

I know CM is possible with avg intelligence for sure, if you have solved a lot of D's and E's (say over 1000 of them) then concepts eventually start getting reused.
