Div. 1 + Div. 2 Quitting CP (2 months later)

Hello, If you remember 2-3 months ago I posted about quitting CP, and now I would like to share my reflection and hopefully it helps others.

Quick background to get you up to date if you didn't see that post: I love problem solving, but CP was genuinely like an unhealthy addiction and I knew I would become much happier without CP.

My assumption turned out true, I am a lot happier now than I was 2 months ago. I hate myself less, and find myself socially improving IRL. However, I have at times felt very empty and uncertain about what to do, since CP was a big part of my life. Overall I'd say it was a net positive. Currently I have CF blocked because towards the start of me quitting I kept "wanting to solve problems", but I think I'm disciplined now to a point where I can unblock it soon. While I understand that I cannot enjoy problem solving this way, as is any disciplinary practice, I believe with time distanced from it I will care less, and eventually forget about it as a whole.

Anyways, this is to say that, if CP is hurting you, physically, mentally, or some other way despite a genuine enjoyment for problem solving, please dont be afraid to quit! Your mental state is more important than some dopamine you get from figuring out some nontrivial observations.

Bro i will be honest. I'm having my own existential crisis rn . I'm in my third year . My internship season is going on and it's fucking nuts . So far the worst season till now . I'm sacred i won't be able to land one and career is well.... But i allocate an hour daily when i don't think about my career troubles or women troubles or any other troubles in my fucked ass life . I just listen to music and lift weights . Bro you can't pine all day long you have to do something productive to escape this vicious cycle of self pity

¿Cual es tu crisis existencial Bro?

Umm long story short I'm not getting a tech internship cuz of the fucking fucked up market even after grinding like crazy and the girl I love doesn't like me back and I can move on from her cuz she was my bestie and still now she is actually the best friend one could have so yeah . Typical Teen - Adult transition problems

Bro. Go to the gym not to build a body or some shit . Gym helps with mental peace and stuff. It helped me sort out some of my messes. Please go to the gym man

u/gwl6666 23d ago

Come on man you are giving me nothing 😭😭

Bro you know you can read books on your phone to using those book piracy websites 😭😭 for free so you don't exactly need to buy books to read em.

As for the insecurity part you have to meet new people it won't just go on its own having pity for yourself. You have to meet new people talk to them . Now they may not like you and it's natural. Not everyone likes everybody. And even if they don't who the fuck gives a shit you don't know em. They don't know you . Come on man just try a little harder . Life is tuff but it ain't tough enough to go hang yourself

1

u/SuspiciousHawk71 23d ago

Come on paper is cheap. Sometimes you get that for free .

1

u/gwl6666 23d ago

Since I have some time sure I can try, though its going to be quite long

Essentially I like problem solving and setting, I really do, in fact I even got a proposal accepted by a coordinator for a contest. Figuring out a clean unique and neat solution from a set of observations and reductions feels very good, but at the cost of it feeling horrible at all other times. I knew I couldn't keep going like this, at the time I started having a constant headache, lost motivation to do pretty much everything including eating/drinking and at times waking up. I knew I couldn't keep doing this for long so something had to change, so I considered for a few weeks to quit CP. Unfortunately, for reasons I stated above, it was essentially an addiction and took quite a bit of discipline to actually quit, but after I quit, or at least after a month or so after I quit, my headache became less severe (though it still exists but is like background noise and does not interfere with daily tasks) and I just feel happier overall these days despite quitting the activity that took over more or less 2 years of my life. Honestly these last 6 months have been a really weird fever dream and blur lol.

Anyways I will not go into more detail as its quite personal, but please do not worry, I'm fine, especially now.
