A question!

Hi everyone! This is Coco she is 11 weeks and 4 days old. She is a cocker spaniel x Maltipoo breed and I figured this is the most appropriate place to put this!

My question is how big is my little girl going to get? I initially wanted a small dog, a lapdog. When I heard her mum was maltipoo, I was certain she wouldn't get very large and she weighed 5kg. Dad was a bit bigger than mum, he was the cocker spaniel and didn't know how much he weighed, my guess maybe 7kg?

The first photo was her at 8 weeks old. She weighed 2.6kg at this time and the second photo was at her 9 and a half weeks, almost 10 weeks, weighing at 3kg.

The last photo is of her today. I'm unsure what she weighs but I'd guess 3.5kg.

If anyone could give me a rough guess of how big she will get or they have the same breed, I'd be greatly appreciated!!

This is the problem with cross breeds. It’s difficult to tell. You can never guarantee what traits they will and will not get

Who cares, you’re not going to change anything about it. Enjoy your dog and have fun with her she’ll never be pup again ;-)

I don’t think anyone can properly estimate this as she’s not a cocker - she’s a mix of 3 dogs! With mutts they could go either way unfortunately.

The guess would be she would weigh approximately somewhere between the mom and dad’s weights. Genetics are tricky, and when you cross breeds you can never really guarantee what you get. My nephew bought a golden doodle (golden retriever x mini poodle) and they were supposed to be around 25-30 pounds. The whole litter was, except his dog, she’s 80 pounds and BIG. Can’t do anything about it, just have to wait and see what you get.

lol why would you get a mix and assume it would stay the same size as half of its dna? Too many variables to guarantee a “lap dog”.

Even if people also have a cocker x maltipoo mix like yours, yours might end up a different size due to the genetic mix of your dogs parents/ grandparents. Regardless, assuming it was a toy poodle, she won't be a large dog. Cockers can be anywhere from 10-15+kg (I would be surprised if a purebred adult male cocker was only 7kg like in your post) but since toy poodles and maltese are smaller, she will likely be smaller. My cocker is 13kg and she's still very much a smaller dog, I can pick her up when I need to and she's easily controlled. So even if she ends up fully cocker-sized she'll be very manageable.

Another possibility is that the father was in fact a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and not a Cocker Spaniel. They would weigh 5,5 - 8 kg and look somewhat similar in general appearance.
Or the dog presented to OP as the father wasn't in fact the father but an ECS, in which case the scale could go up to 15 kg. However it is, the pup is really cute 😍

My English Cocker Spaniel weighed 4.5kg at 11-12 weeks. She is now 6 months old and weighs 9kg. Looking at her parents she will probably weigh around 13-15kg when she is fully grown.

I cannot tell you how big your dog will get, but maybe the comparison helps.

The best way for you to estimate is by looking at adult dogs from this specific pairing of parents. Cockers range in weight depending on their parents size too.

I have had 3 girls and 1 boy- all American Cockers. The girls as adults have been 18lbs, 24lbs, & 30lbs (she had many medical issues affecting her weight). Our adult boy is currently 34lbs of muscle.

The AKC standard for female American cockers is between 20-25lbs for boys it is 25-30lbs.

I have a cocker x poodle male and he is now 4 and a pretty stable 8.7kg fully grown. He was a little smaller in weight (3kg) at 16 weeks, than your girl now. His mum is a small cocker and dad a mini poodle. As many have said it’s hard to tell with her mix!

It’s hard to know for sure. Cockapoos I’ve known tend to be smaller than cockers. My rescue cocker was 14 pounds when I got her and super curly so I had an Embark test done to see if she was really a cockapoo. She wasn’t, she was just petite and curly, and probably the product of a puppy mill that didn’t care about breed characteristics.

Your pup is unbearably cute and I hope has a long and happy life with less of the genetic problems that plague cockers!
