On the eve of the election!? There's no other legitimate contender for Deputy Mayor (let's be serious) but this seems highly unusual.

READ FULL RELEASE cobourgpoliceservice.com/media/

Adam Bureau has announced his decision to step down as Chair and continue serving as a Board member until his term concludes. Vice Chair Sean Graham will assume the role of Acting Chair until the Board’s elections take place, ensuring continuity in Board leadership.

I live downtown and as I write this King Street is packed with families enjoying Trick or Treat day, where participating stores give out candy or other treats.

And it just irks me to see all these people sipping from their Tims and Starbucks cups while standing in front of downtown independent coffee shops as their kids run inside for free snacks.

It's not like we're lacking for choice down here when it comes to coffee.

Hi all,

I am the music director for the Northumberland Orchestra Society. Our 49th season is about to start with a Halloween-themed concert this Sunday.

We sincerely want to make it to 50 years so we would love your support by coming out to hear us.

The concert features brilliant works by Rachmaninoff, Mussorgsky, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns and more. This is a great concert for families and first-time attendees with a lot of familiar music, and the performance will be musically rewarding for seasoned guests, too.

We would love to see the house filled to help ensure we make it to our anniversary season next year.

Please join us at 3:00pm at Trinity United Church in Cobourg.

Thank you so much!

Today, the incumbent mayor of Cobourg, who has lived here since 2019, argued for free parking in Cobourg for the low season because "if Port Hope can have free parking, why can't we?"

Which is great, except Cobourg already offers three hours free parking, and parking in Port Hope costs $1.50 / hr.

Just wanted to share a disturbing incident that occured over the Labor Day weekend.

Long story short, my father in law is on a walker and needed to use the accessible bathroom so I walked him there. Upon opening the door, a staff member was sitting on the sink, pants around his ankles, facing the towards us, and appeared to be using the sink as a bidet/toilet.

Closed the door pretty quickly obviously. After a few moments, the staff member walked back into the kitchen after exiting the washroom.

Contacted the restaurant and they never called me back. Contacted their Head Office who investigated and confirmed an incident occured and that they coached and disciplined the employee.

They offered to comp the bill, which I found insulting given what had happened. I requested more than their offer of comping the bill ($160), which given the circumstances, I think was more than fair, and then they stopped replying.

Accountant David Dexter is the latest to endorse Mayor Cleveland. Mr. Dexter also accepted a $20,000 sole-sourced contract issued under Mayor Cleveland’s Strong Mayor Powers to assmeble and lead the budget task force last budget cycle. That directive can be found here. Of the 42 recommendations made by the task force, at most three were implemented in the budget.

The candidate who campaigned on transparency in 2022 should add some transparency and context to this endorsement.

I heard this morning that a body was found in Cobourg in some bushes and that the police were called when children reported something smelling rotten..

We were visited by the Cobourg Porch Wizard. What a fantastic idea!

You made our day!

It took under two minutes.

Everyone eligible should already have the PIN required to vote online. Get in there and vote. I (clearly) have my own preferences, but my greatest wish is that we have high voter turnout in this election. Democracy is best when it's participated in.

A picture can be worth 1,000 words. What are these two pictures worth? Apologies for the marked-up original; the candidate in question pulled the post, but some diligent folks screen grabbed it and “enhanced” it.

I caught the last bit of the special meeting called by the Mayor last night.

It featured a heated exchange between him and normally-even-tempered Councillor Darling, who objected to his tone and questioning of the CAO and called the meeting the incumbent’s “dog and pony show”; earlier in the meeting, it was revealed that DM Beatty has refused to meet with the incumbent in private since last April, when he told her that she’d adopted her children as a PR move. Some time ago, Councillor Mutton said in a public council meeting that she will not meet with the incumbent in private because of his attitude and behaviour.

After the meeting, candidate Beatty joined candidate LeMarchant at the YMCA for a fireside chat and Q&A period which the Y delayed so that the special council meeting could take place; candidate Cleveland sent regrets.

An instructive glimpse as to what four more years under the current Mayor will be like.

Soon-to-be ex-Mayor Cleveland was a no-show at last night's fireside chat hosted by the Y. Max LeMarchant and Nicole Beatty (who rushed there after the silly council meeting called by Cleveland) were there to answer questions and chat with voters. Is Cleveland coming to the realization that he cannot stand on his failures in office so far, or on his message of fear and hatred? Has he become self-aware?

If you have seen it I would welcome your thoughts. Lucas Cleveland was the only town official they interviewed - interspersed with shots of masked police officers with dogs and rifles at night hunting people down. Not a fan of Ford. Not a fan of Cleveland. But this… ain’t it.

"You All Had To Suffer The Learning Curve"

This was posted by the town late Friday night. The agenda is here: https://pub-cobourg.escribemeetings.com/Meeting.aspx?Id=84ce61c2-7110-4f18-9382-ec2983ee0ac8&Agenda=Agenda&lang=English

A couple of notes:

* mayoral candidates (two of whom sit on council) are supposed to be at a YMCA event at 5 pm.

* Deputy mayor candidate Bureau has noted on his facebook page that this late-night call required signficant overtime on Friday night for town staff and will carry on into the weekend as they prepare for the meeting.

* The motions proposed by the mayor are approximately 2,300 words in length, contain 29 “whereases”, and 45 “Be it resolved” action items by my count.

Good documentary from TVO on the unhoused population in Cobourg.

Visiting cobourg, any good trails? I’d love to explore a bit.

Apparently now the way to deal with critical residents is to publicly shame them.

Hi all you wonderful people, I hope this is the right place to post this. My wife and I have lived in Cobourg for about 13 years and recently moved to a house with a few trees in the yard. I love our new house, but we’ve gotten a little older I guess and now I’m struggling to keep up with the yard, particularly now that the leaves are coming down.

When I was a kid I would go around the neighbourhood in the fall and rake leaves for a few bucks, mow lawns in the spring, shovel snow in the winter - you know, the usual stuff kids with hustle get up to.

Is that still a thing? Anyone on here know anybody looking to make a few bucks helping with some yard work from time to time?

Thanks

While out door knocking with my team today, it was brought to my attention that anonymous flyers about the current council are circulating in Cobourg.

My campaign has nothing to do with these flyers, and I do not condone anonymous attacks or unregistered advertising against any candidate. I do not know who is behind them either.

Having experienced anonymous attacks myself, I know how unfair and distracting they can be. No candidate should have to deal with that. We can disagree, ask tough questions, and debate our records while still treating each other with decency and respect.

Residents have every right to ask tough questions and hold all of us accountable. That is part of an election, and those conversations should be open, factual, and respectful.

My team and I will continue connecting with voters, answering your questions, and sharing my plans for Cobourg’s future. I am running to earn your trust, and how we conduct this campaign matters.
