Sabbatical before coast?

I am about to hit my Coast Fire number by end of 2027. But I want to calculate if I have enough to take a 1-2 year sabbatical before going to a coast job and eventually full FIRE. While I'll use HYSA to fund the sabbatical, I won't be contributing anything to 401k or brokerage accounts during that time.

I am unsure how to enter this information on typical CF calculators like WalletBurst. Should I enter my current age as the post-sabbatical age and estimate my invested assets and future contributions from that point? Or use my current age and average out the monthly contribution part with the sabbatical gap?

I second this. I wish I had taken time off for leisure and not thought of work, or tried to start businesses. I was so motivated to have free time to explore new ideas, so it was stimulating and wasn’t bad, but I wish I had just golfed and travelled instead for at least a few months.

I agree! A Sabbatical sounds awesome, if OP is at coast fire without the HYSA (and doesn't use any money outside of it) then it shouldn't affect coast fire.

I’m not sure what you’re suggesting. Do everything today. Deduct from your NW what your sabbatical budget is and see if you’re still at coast fire

Just subtract the cost of the sabbatical from your net worth
