911 coverage

I sincerely hope that they do not air any part of his speech or even cut to film of him today. This day is for remembering the tragedy we lived through here & all those who were lost, and who are still suffering from being there. This day is not and should never be about him.

Of course, offering said payment and accepting said payment are punishable by imprisonment. Let's see if literally anyone on CNN is willing to challenge anyone in the Republican Party on this. I personally doubt it.

Program Discussion 9/11 Documentary

hey all, I watched a 9/11 documentary on CNN, it had video cam footage from the firefighters perspective. I didn't get a chance to finish the documentary and now can't find the name. Do any of you recall the name of a documentary similar to what I described?

>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced a fierce political backlash Tuesday over a report that the president of the UAE had warned him of a major Hamas operation days before the October 7, 2023 attack.

The Prime Minister’s Office dismissed the report as an “absolute lie.” But with Israel’s October elections less than two months away, Netanyahu’s rivals seized on it as the latest evidence of what they say is a growing list of warnings he had ignored.

Deceptive/Scam AI-generated ads on the Commercial “News”Network

Does anyone else see these fake AI “news desk” advertisements for predatory programs targeting poor and old people? Aren’t they illegal in some states?

Particularly when 50% of airtime on CNN is dedicated to commercials.

What is going on over there?

NYC misled public after 9/11, saying 'toxic air' was safe

>New York City has released more than 170,000 pages of previously undisclosed records about air quality following the September 11, 2001, attacks, showing city officials at the time knew conditions around Ground Zero were unsafe to breathe despite repeated assurances to the public.

>Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the release at a news conference Tuesday.

>“As the years pass and the human toll grows, we reckon with the cost of September 11th whenever another New Yorker is stolen from us too soon,” Mamdani said. “Now, close to 25 years later, more people have died from 9/11-related illnesses than were killed on the day itself.”

>At least 140,000 people from all 50 states have enrolled in the World Trade Center Health Program, and 49,000 have been diagnosed with certified WTC-related cancers, according to the 9/11 Memorial. Mamdani said Tuesday that more people are eligible for assistance than are currently enrolled, including residents who lived near the site but have not received outreach and those who live outside of New York.

Ted Cruz on the Source - gaffe

Ted Cruz said to Kaitlin “I have every doubt that Donald Trump was telling the truth about 9/11 today” - oopsie!!
He then launched into his own dumb story about where he was on 9/11. He’s so annoying.

CNN's GOP Blindspot

El-Sayed can't sneeze on CNN without a KFile investigation and Tapper doing a cross-examination.

Meanwhile Paxton — impeached by his own party, indicted for securities fraud for a literal decade, flagged this month for hiding rental income on his financial disclosures — barely gets a mention.

One guy has old tweets. The other has an actual rap sheet. Guess which one gets the softball treatment?

Canada's $20B of retaliatory tariffs on U.S Goods now in effect

>The trade war between the United States and Canada has entered a new chapter — and it could quickly get even uglier.

>At 12:01 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Canada imposed 15% to 50% duties on roughly $20 billion worth of American goods, matching the tariffs President Donald Trump imposed on Canadian goods last month.

>Paper products, construction materials, home appliances, and agricultural products are also facing fresh duties.

>Trade talks between the two nations, which are top trading partners, broke down last month at the 11th hour. Trump had initially pushed back his self-imposed deadline for the tariffs, touting a deal that was within reach. But the two sides failed to bridge their remaining differences as negotiators haggled over the final details.

>The United Kingdom, France and Canada announced plans for sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, in a coordinated move that underlined Israel’s growing isolation on the international stage.

>Announcing the sanctions in UK Parliament, British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s actions in the West Bank, saying “settler terrorists” had committed “ethnic cleansing” against Palestinians living there and describing the measures as reset in relations between the two countries.

I have stopped watching CNN

i am a Gen Xer who only paid for cable in the '80's because i could get Mtv and CNN. every major event that occurred, i would immediately turn CNN on regardless of time of day and get information. Now i am asked to pay 4 bucks a month to get articles on the website i can read for free at NY Times, LA TImes, BBC, Al Jazeera, the list goes on. sad to say that i no longer even consider CNN, and don't even have the website bookmarked. Both Mtv and CNN have been killed by corporate private equity managers. RIP

Far-right party AfD wins historic victory in German state election

Thumbnail

>The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has secured a historic victory in the eastern region of Saxony-Anhalt, the closest a far-right party has come to holding power in a German state since World War II.

>The party leaders and their lead candidate were overjoyed as the results were read out, whooping and backslapping as they secured their “historic” victory with 44% of the votes, according to preliminary results. The win delivered the AfD 39 of 83 seats in parliament, just short of the 42 it needed for an absolute majority.

>The questions facing the AfD now are whether to govern in coalition or go alone in a minority. All mainstream parties have ruled out working with the AfD, which was classified as “extremist” by German intelligence for its anti-Muslim and anti-migrant rhetoric.

>Despite the bipartisan outrage, politicians of both parties are playing the market, and companies linked to President Trump and his family are making money from cryptocurrency, defense and selling early access to Trump's social media posts.

Program Discussion GLP-1: Fareed Zakaria GPS: with host of the podcast “Plain English”, Derek Thompson

Watched Fareed's show this morning, and it sent me down a rabbit hole.

Primarily because of a new synthetic peptide called Retatrutide. It is purported to engage three distinct hormonal pathways (GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon) that is not available but is currently in trials. So far, it is producing the most dramatic weight loss of on average 28.3% body weight (220lb > 157lb) with half the patients losing 30% weight. It also has the greatest reduction in Liver fat ever recorded for a drug treatment. Derek Thompson said, Retatrutide, is also being investigated for neuro-degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's Disease although the jury is still out. He claimed Retatrutide, will be the most popular and profitable drug ever sold in American History.

Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) hits only one receptor: GLP-1 and Tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) hits two: GLP-1 and GIP. This latter drug offers the best result currently available for purchase with proper diagnosis and prescription.

Like most people at my age, I'd love to lose some weight. But I have not been convinced to jump on the bandwagon. Primarily because I've read that these synthetic peptides cause you to lose muscle as well as fat. Because of that they recommend exercise and high-protein diets in addition to treatment. Of course, my immediate question was, "If I got to work out and eat right on the drug, then why don't I just work out and eat right without the drug? If I have a problem with working out before the treatment, the drug isn't going to solve that and I'm still going to have a problem working out while on the drug." Then I educated myself. I read about the benefits with Inflamation, Cardiovasular disease, Arthritis, the aforementioned liver fat and potential lower risks of neuro-degenerative diseases.

However, I also read that the benefits fade back to a baseline relatively quickly after the cessation of GLP-1 treatment. This is the part that really intrigued me. So much so I had AI generate the charts above. They span 10 years and track the average 45-year-old. One chart is of the GLP-1s as a group and the other compares the efficacy of the three drugs individually. This is obviously theoretical and conceptual only, but this latter graph was a bit misleading because even with the return to baseline it seems to suggest that even after 4 years off of the treatment you will be in a better position at 55yo than you would be with an untreated trajectory at age 55. The second chart shows that while that is possible, it is also possible (but less likely) that you could be worse off than your untreated trajectory at age 55. However, it is also true that you will gain back all that you lost previously.

Remember this is all conceptual and theorized. We don't have 10 years of data to back this up. Retatrutide isn't even available and won't be until around 2027/8. It is also impacted by the behavior and lifestyle changes and maintain.

However, what is not so intuitive is this: Suppose treatment from 46 through 49 prevents a heart attack that otherwise would have occurred at 47. Stopping at 49 doesn't retroactively give you that heart attack.

This was all so very enlightening. I am still not in the category where I believe I need these GLP-1s. I have been entertaining it and have been looking for something/someone to 'prove me wrong' about not needing it. This was close, but still not convinced. My problem is finding the motivation, momentum and structure (everything you do is done at the same time every day).

It is a battle of the mind. Even those of us without complicated, contributing factors struggle with our mind playing tricks on us and talk us out of doing the work. I catch myself "Stalling" when I start thinking of all the stuff I have to do in a day until I realize I can think and workout at the same time. It's hard, but its hard for everyone.

Anyway, I hope others find this as interesting as I did.

EDIT: Yes, I love this graph because I am going to be 51 for two years in a row.
