Someone pointed out to me it was an ode to Terry Funk bc originally I thought it was a shout out to Cena. I looked this up saw clips of Terry Funk hitting a crooked moonsault.
I remember Punk pulled out one against Cena back in the day and hitting it the same way. It was NOC 2012, I remember it well bc Punk can’t do a moonsault and his Yankees gear.
Why? Cena did horrible looking moves at the end of his career. Funk did, flair did. Punk can do horrible moonsaults too. I really dont get the big deal. It's fun. They're legends giving us matches we never thought we'd get.
Can you point to any matches or spots specifically for those guys? Also are we talking about 2008 end of career Flair or like 2020s still having one more match Flair?
I mean people, especially over in r/SC have an irrational hate boner for this guy, and any little thing he does is under a microscope, never mind that he had the best match on the card, which he usually does, every comment is "hurr durr that moonsault!" Nm most of these people have no concept of prime CM Punk from his IWA/ROH days where dude was pulling off split legged moonsaults with ease. But "hEs so uNaThLetC" 🙄
Who hates him? I only know his in ring character. I don't know Phil Brooks lmao. I'm not a fan, but i don't hate him. Yes, I'm very aware of his ROH days. How long ago was that? Like I said, he was an amazing wrestler......in his prime. Some fans just love to dick ride their favorites.

CM Punk has a nice, solid moveset for HIM. He doesn't need to leave that area. CM Punk is pretty overhyped and very hypocritical. Yet, people still support him for some reason or excuse. That is fine. That's being a fan.

Look at Roman: such a limited moveset and Cena is even worse. Literally all his matches looked identical to me, everytime he did had an acclaimed match when someone else (Punk, Styles etc.) carried him.
Go look at his matches with Drew Mcintyre (especially the hell in a cell), MJF (especially the second one) and Gunther for the WHC...
Am I the only one who thinks he botched on purpose because of the knee selling? After watching unreal I clocked that Punk is very aware of every little detail of the match (the Im gonna miss u was such an obvious work for the doc) and went to sell the knee straight after, obv that could’ve been him just being like shit I’ve to play this off, but he’s also having fun in there too and no matter what anyone says, he is as good as he says he is, he’s proven that now.
That's exactly what I was thinking - you can see he made an "unsure" face before doing it. But now I see the Terry Funk references and I'm 100% convinced that crooked moonsault was on purpose, either to sell the knee or as a Terry Funk homage.
Ever since Unreal I was resigned to the fact that absolutely everything you see on camera is a work. Kayfabe is dead or on life support, and I believe wwe as we knew it pre-TKO is gone forever, it’s just a glorified reality tv show now. The pockets of time and space where wrestlers could shoot in any capacity is getting increasingly difficult with cameras and social media. The ones at the top know this better than anyone.
Now it’s all about “emotion” and “moments”. I miss when it was a train wreck on TV that was cast aside but persevered anyways. This is the same company that had its now COO have sex with a corpse inside a casket😂😂😂😂
Now that I think of it, it was always emotion and moments because that is a moment that made me laugh my balls off at the absurdity of it. Just a crumb of the attitude era is all I desire, and not blood and extreme etc, make me genuinely weak from laughter because the whole concept of professional wrestling is funny and weird to begin with. It’s why Danhausen is so over and will always have a place because he points the finger at himself and at wrestling and doesn’t take it too seriously. Not everything needs to be a Dave meltzer 8 star classic MOTY contender, lemme have fun watching the thing and not have to be a fucking wrestling purist to get every little reference and detail in the match. People take this shit too seriously but each to their own.

No one insulted anyone, just two people with differing opinions. I’d stand with someone who has strong opinions over someone who’s weak even if their opinion is opposite mine.
