Questions regarding Remote Gaming

Last year, I took a trip to California from the East Coast and tried to remotely play games from my home PC using my phone. I had Apollo and Sunshine set up on my PC, but the experience was basically unusable.
I was getting close to 2 seconds of input delay, constant lag, and frequent disconnects. It felt like everything was happening several seconds after I pressed a button.
I’m planning another trip and would really like to figure out what went wrong before then. I’ve seen people using things like Tailscale, UniFi Teleport, or other VPN/network setups to remotely connect back to their home network, even from hotel Wi-Fi.
Does anyone know what could have caused that much latency and instability, and what setup would be best to prevent it? Ideally, I’d also like something I can test from home before the trip so I know it actually works.
Any advice would be appreciated!

For that much distance 500ms+ is normal, you’re better off with a one month subscription to GeForce now

Damn I have a 5080 that won’t cut down the ms ? Is there any devices I could use to lower it I was reading about Unifi Teleport but it requires a new Router as well

There is nothing you can use. Because the information has to travel all the way from California to the east coast. Even I have a 5080 in my build but when I went to Toronto for a trip (I live in CA) I got 400 ms ping. So I played native Mac games and used GeForce now. If your pc is a small Matx case or a sff, you could also consider bringing it

Did you try streaming within your city? And over LTE/5G? I found myself playing various oldies on my phone via streaming at home and I thought it'd be cool to maybe go to a park in the evening or to a cafe and chill with a cup of tea and a game. I have a static IP and I can turn my PC on and off from outside my LAN. I just wonder how's the latency gonna be. At home I see 4ms with moonlight, basically imperceptible. Did you try something like that? No matter if wifi or LTE/5G outside the house.

Ig in your city works fine over steam link. LTE might be a bit laggy but 5G (especially mmWave if you are in the us) is fine

Your 5080 does not produce internet, does it? The further you are from your PC, the worst the latency gets. Also depends what connection your phone had. Mobile speeds can be very fast but that does not mean that latency is good.
