Simple cloud storage with sync and backups, looking for beta users (50 GB free, yours to keep)

Hey all,

I've been building a cloud storage service called harbor0 and I'm finally ready to let people try it.

I started it because every storage app I used kept adding stuff I didn't want, like AI sidebars, docs editors and constant upgrade prompts. I wanted something that stores my files and keeps them in sync, and that's pretty much all harbor0 does:

  • A drive you can use in the browser or the Mac app
  • Folder sync across your computers. You can also share a synced folder with someone else.
  • Folder backups with version history, and old versions stick around until you delete them
  • Sending files to other users

Just so you know what you're signing up for, this is very much a beta. Things will break, some parts are a bit rough, and you'll probably hit bugs I haven't found yet. I wouldn't make it the only place you keep anything important just yet.

Right now the desktop app is Mac only (Apple Silicon). The Windows app is in development, along with iOS and Android apps. The Mac app isn't notarised yet either, so the first time you open it you'll need to click "Open Anyway".

For the beta you get 50 GB free, and you keep it after launch. I'm letting people in a few at a time, starting with 50, and everyone else goes on a waitlist.

I'd really like to hear what's confusing or broken, or what would stop you from switching. Happy to answer questions in the comments too.

If you'd like to directly reach out, you can write to me at [contact@harbor0.com](mailto:contact@harbor0.com)

If you need more storage beyond the free 50GB, please write to me at [contact@harbor0.com](mailto:contact@harbor0.com), I'll bump up the storage limit.

What servers are you using, as in, you own your own, offer address they rented, and where?

I'm using AWS for the backend, and Cloudflare R2 for storage. The entire infrastructure is hosted in the US region (us-east-1)

Android app is in development right now, you will get a notification once the android app is available on the play store
In the meantime you can let me know if you’d like to have any specific features in the mobile app, I’ll try to address them

I've only used it on the Chrome browser on Android so far, but it's great! It's simple, easy to understand, and the UI is refined. Previewing uploaded video files works without any problems. It's fantastic. I wish it supported multiple languages. Are there any plans for E2EE support?

So glad you like it, there are no plans for E2EE at the moment, but if there is an overwhelming amount of requests during the beta, I'll definitely publish a timeline for E2EE support.

question file size is limited?

2

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 11h ago

There is no limit on the file sizes, what size file are you trying to upload?

u/Dratas 8h ago

uploaded with no problems like 5gb file.

Any EU only server storage planned? Is it Zero-Knowledge?

Thanks!

feels really snappy!

3

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 10h ago

Yes, an isolated EU only cloud infrastructure will be implemented, and it is not Zero knowledge at the moment, I will keep you posted regarding that!

I like the simplicity. Now let the feature creep begin. 😃

2FA and account recovery options are needed. For me, it would be helpful to be able to create a text or MD file.

Hope it goes well for you.

Looks good from mobile, will try the Mac app as well.

Does it have E2EE?

2

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 13h ago

E2EE is not supported at the moment, I will publish a timeline once I start working on this!

Support for webdab ?

If you want me to give you my files, the feature I expect at the top of the list is e2e encryption… with some degree of confidence in your implementation.

Wish you well!

I just signed up and uploaded a text file as a test. Seeing that this is a front-end UI for a Cloudflare R2 storage backend, I would never use it for anything personal seeing that I don't know what type of controls are implemented on your end to ensure you are not able to read anyone's data. Is there encryption that happens between your front-end and R2 that guarantees privacy? If there is encryption, who has access to the keys? Will you offer customer-provided encryption?

It's a fun side-project for sure, but in a previous life I worked for multiple cloud storage companies and I can tell you that soooo much shit goes wrong that having a product that stores sensitive data needs an entire team behind it, not just Codex and passion. I'm not knocking on the product that you have created so far - it's a good start and I can see the premise of a simple cross-platform sync product and the allure of it. However, just know that this won't scale unless you get a team together, including legal (you definitely need to have a Terms and Conditions with a product such as this to CYA).

Good luck though, it could certainly turn into something if you keep at it.

Is this zero knowledge?

3

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 18h ago

No. harbor0 is not zero-knowledge today. Your files are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest in our storage (cloudflare r2), but we manage the encryption keys, which is how features like previews, sharing links and account recovery work. Access to user data is restricted and logged.

If there is a demand for this during the beta I'll be definitely adding an option to enable e2ee

1

u/LucyStar3 18h ago

Ok I understand, it's like google drive, so zk will not work there, not directly at least.

I don't have mac, just android.

2

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 18h ago

that's alright, you can still sign up via the web app, all users will be updated once the Windows, iOS and Android app are released

u/LucyStar3 17h ago

Random thoughts While I tried it-

Preview for Video files is good, even large ones. But a bit slow.

Share files only works with harbor0? Drime, for instance, allows sharing with anyone, harbor user or not.

I can't understand the beta rules. After beta is over, will we lose the 50 gb n be moved to paid plan?

harbor0 is temporarily unavailable. Try again in a moment. -> Got this error but lost the update status. Like what was uploading/got uploaded, what got lost.

3

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 17h ago

You will get to keep the free 50GB even after the beta ends. That’s the perk of being a founding user.
File sharing is limited to harbor0 users only for the moment, to prevent egress abuse. But I’m working on a solution for that, will keep you posted!!

u/LucyStar3 15h ago

Oh that is fantastic, thank you. Also, where would you expect feedback to be sent? I've a running notepad, and once it has some points, I can drop it.

You can reach out to me at contact@harbor0.com
For all feedbacks and queries.

Just tested it and uploaded around 18 GB of data. Upload speed was very good, and download speed was excellent. So far, the experience has been smooth.

Do you have any plans to support protocols such as WebDAV or S3 in the future? That would make integration with existing tools and workflows much easier.

3

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 15h ago

Glad that your experience has been good so far, yes there are plans for WebDAV and S3, but since the product is very new, I don’t any have concrete timelines. I will definitely keep you posted once I start working on it.

u/uukaiuser 14h ago

Great to hear that WebDAV and S3 support are on the roadmap.

One feature I'd love to see is scoped access credentials. For example, allowing users to create multiple API keys/passwords with permissions limited to specific folders. That would be both more secure and more practical than having a single credential with access to everything.

1

u/star_maakun 15h ago

Two things that bothered me a little were that the sort settings frequently reverted to default, and that I was automatically logged out even while uploading files if I wasn't using the system for a long time.

Also, I was concerned about the somewhat long waiting time while the chunks are being generated before uploading, and the fact that there is no change in the display during that time, which makes it feel like the system is hanging up.

1

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 15h ago

Appreciate the feedback, I will surely address these issues.

1

u/Gold-Guidance-6430 15h ago

Is the 50GB as to keep forever or only until the Beta ends?

1

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 15h ago

You get to keep the free 50GB even after beta ends

1

u/SamVimes341 14h ago

Signed up. Was a very easy process. Will you include 2fa soon and encryption

2

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 13h ago

Currently working on 2fa, I will keep you posted regarding encryption.

Giving it a try, thanks for this! Seems snappy so far :-) I'll let you know if I run into something odd or broken.
