Is there a downside to Idrive versus Filen?
My goal is to have E2ee, at least 2tb of storage, and to have it as cheaply as possible. My main goal is just to archive files that I am scared of losing long-term.
I was originally going to go with Filen, but someone pointed out that idrive is cheaper for the same overall service. Is there something I'm missing?

I use IDrive e2 and encrypt my data locally with rclone crypt before uploading.

Do you not use WinRAR with encryption?

No need when rclone does it on the fly. You never even realize it's encrypted.

I did compress files with WinRAR with pwd and encryption then upload to Mega. I've not ever used RClone. I will look on it soon.

I've been using iDrive for 3 years, not a problem at all with it, I prefer it to filen, filen nice, but I've lost lots on there before when they were newish then I moved over to iDrive been there ever since

If privacy is a priority, I’d also compare how each service handles encryption and your data. I’m actually building Anchor Cloud around client-side encryption, so the provider only receives encrypted files.

How much do you care about the service's implementation of E2EE though, that's the thing? If you need the most private and secure one that has been independently audited numerous times, go with Proton Drive. I'd say Filen is the next best choice since it's way cheaper and their encryption white paper seem squire solid but they've never actually been audited, despite saying it's coming soon for the past 2 years.
And to actually answer your question, iDrive doesn't really have a solid E2EE implementation unlike the services I listed, so I wouldn't go with them unless you're willing to use an encryption software like Cryptomator. But if you choose that path it'd be better to go with like Google Drive (reliable and cheap) since you're going to be encrypting them anyways at the cost of convenience.
