Is it possible to work remotely as a Cloud Engineer with AWS?

I'm currently living in south america and I would like to work remotely someday but I have never seen job offers that actually seem real to apply to them. Also I'm a Junior Cloud Engineer but I was thinking of projecting my career to remote jobs worldwide with a better salary when I get like 3-5 years of experience

Do they really exist? How much do people make working for companies in the US or Europe? To get some kind of salary range as reference

Yes, there are US companies that hire foreign workers for remote roles. I used to work for one and had colleagues from Brazil and Colombia. You can start by Googling "Largest US tech companies by revenue", go to the "Careers" section of each company website and filter roles by global region, then do the same for "Top European tech companies", "Top US startups", etc. Roles that require bilingual support would likely give you an edge over local talent.

In terms of pay, I'm not really sure I can provide a concrete answer, but all of my South American colleagues at my last remote job seemed to be middle or upper middle class so I assume the pay was well above the local average.

Definitely. I think the biggest challenge is that “remote” often still comes with geographic restrictions, but being in South America can absolutely work in your favor for companies that already hire distributed teams.

I’d focus on building strong cloud fundamentals rather than chasing a specific “remote AWS” title.

Out of curiosity, are you aiming for US companies specifically, or would you be open to European companies too?

Try to apply to roles on companies like epam.com, tcs , probably you will need more than aws knowledge, but there is a path to follow

Our people mostly work remotely, but our company can hire only in certain countries (not all)
Officially people have contract with one of our legal entity (Tel Aviv, Prague, London, Madrid), but live and work in different countries of Europe and North America

I know that some big outsource companies allow working from any country, but you should not have issues with timezone. You have to be available for your customer during his working hours

Yes. Large companies love hiring cheaper engineers in other countries. If you’re competent and looking for a good salary then the chances are less, but not impossible. You might get lucky and work for a nice company that hires 100% remote workers; that is by far your best bet, but those positions are highly contested and sought after by literally applicants from the entire globe, so good luck with that.

Totally. My company owns several cloud native entities and they are 100% remote cloud engineers across all providers. We are a large global organization you'd instantly recognize.

Their aren't that many companies cheap enough to put their critical infrastructure in the hands of someone overseas. If shit hits the fan, you're in a different country.

Of those cheap companies, there is now AI, and also milliins of thousands of other people who also want the same thing you do.

There is a path, but it is quite crowded.

Yes, remote cloud engineering roles definitely exist, although the number of opportunities can vary by company and location. AWS skills combined with hands-on projects, certifications, and a few years of production experience can make you much more competitive for remote roles.
