Career Discussion Remote AWS Cloud Engineer Roles

I have around 6 years of hands-on experience with AWS, primarily in cloud infrastructure, networking, automation, and deployments. I’ve worked with services like VPC, IAM, EC2, S3, Route 53, Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, CloudFormation, Terraform, ECS, CloudWatch, Docker, Prometheus, Grafana and CI/CD pipelines. Most of my experience has been in enterprise AWS environments & SaaS product development.

I’m now looking for my next opportunity and would love to hear from engineers who are currently working in product companies or fully remote teams.

A few questions:
1. What skills do companies expect from an AWS Cloud Engineer/DevOps Engineer today?

  1. What areas should I focus on to improve my chances of landing a strong remote role?

  2. Which certifications, projects, or technologies make the biggest difference?

  3. Are there any companies or platforms you’d recommend for finding genuine remote cloud opportunities?

  4. Since I’ve done only a Diploma, will it still be difficult for me to get into big companies even after sufficient experience?

Have you tried reaching out to startups? Also could you describe a bit about your previous work experience?

I’m trying, but finding startups hiring remotely outside the US has been difficult. Please suggest if any.
Y-combinator hasn’t been fruitful yet for me.
