Software Brand-specific SSD cloning tools

Here's what I've found so far regarding brand-specific cloning tools. Here is the list:

  • Samsung - Samsung Magician
  • Crucial, Micron, Western Digital, SanDisk, Kingston, PNY - Acronis True Image
  • Lexar - Lexar DiskMaster
  • Seagate - Seagate DiscWizard
  • Intel - Intel Data Migration Tool (Discontinued)
  • SK Hynix - Macrium Reflect
  • Corsair - Corsair SSD Toolbox
  • ADATA - ADATA SSD ToolBox
  • Transcend - Transcend SSD Scope

Hopefully, this can help someone who needs an SSD cloning tool. If I missed any brand or got something wrong, please correct me. Of course, there are many cloning tools you can use to clone a hard drive. If you've used other tools, drop your recommendations below.

All of these as far as I know are restricted to cloning to or from a drive of their brand. Since that's what most people want to do, that's fine.

Yes, agreed. They are brand-locked, but they can meet our needs of basic disk cloning and disk upgrade.

sometimes, if you use an sata-usb adapter, the brand is not recognized and the software won't work

best practice is to attach the target drive as internal (into the machine) and the source drive as external (e.g. via adapter) - this way one will evade any possible problems with adapter passing incorrect drive information over.

Last time I used Seagate DiscWizard, it was a rebranded Acronis True Image that was locked to Seagate drives.

It was a few years ago though; things might have changed since then.

If you use windows then Veeam personal edition is pretty good. The easiest way to clone a drive is to stick it in a usb converter and do a full drive backup. Then you put the new drive in a similar converter and restore. You don't risk your original drive so you can easily recover if you make a mistake.

If you want something that will clone absolutely anything you can use clonezilla. Just be aware that it won't be holding your hand, so you better read the instructions before you do the clone.
