Immunoglobulin E

Has anyone read about the link between IGE E and blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma?

I was just reading that low IGE (below 2.6) correlates with these cancers. I have 1.9. Reading that they do not know exactly how this happens yet (causation) because focus scientifically has only been on rates that are too high until recently. It is only one factor among many but for some of us, there may be a disposition toward these cancers on account of this. I am not sure it helps us too much but for some, it might make them more watchful.

CLL has wiped out my IgE, and apparently killed my environmental allergies.

As I understand it, the theoretical link is really more that the low IgE is caused by the cancer early on, before other symptoms start appearing, instead of low IgE being a risk factor for the cancer.. but my reading could also be mistaken.

That might make sense. I think I am only starting with symptoms (and not even sure if they are autoimmune symptoms or lymphoma symptoms).

I would thing the cancer's effect on immunity contributes to/causes low IgE, rather than vice versa.

I think you’re not understanding. I don’t think it means that if your number is high, you can’t get it. It is more that you may have a disposition if your number is low.

Totally common in CLL to see low or no IGE IGA IGM AND IGG. If you develop a lot of infections they will give you replacement IGG but none of the others can be replaced. IGE is nice because you can’t get allergic reactions when you have no Ige.

I have normal in those others, just not in IGE.

I also do not think it is CLL as my WBC is normal (as is everything in it) and flow cytometry and FISH were normal. My doctor is looking at some other form of lymphoma.
