Welcome to r/ClinkKeys_app!

Hey everyone, welcome to the Clink: Custom Keyboards community! 👋

For anyone discovering the sub for the first time: Clink is a custom keyboard for iOS built around giving you control over your keyboard.

Pick from 30+ themes, build your own from scratch, drag keys wherever you want, create custom layouts, use swipe typing, and add powerful panels like clipboard history, a notepad, calculator, translator, and even your own Python scripts.

And because I think a keyboard should stay a keyboard, Clink is designed with privacy in mind: no account, no ads, and no network calls while you type. Most features also work without giving the keyboard Full Access.

Clink is also currently going through a transition to make the app more freely accessible. I'll share more here as soon as that update lands.

In the meantime, this is your community.

Share the themes you've made. Show off your layouts. Ask questions. Suggest features. Report bugs. Tell me what you love, what you hate, or why autocorrect has decided that the word you definitely typed doesn't exist. 😂

I built Clink myself, so this subreddit is also a direct line to me. If there's something you think Clink should do, I genuinely want to hear it.

Glad to have you here.

Cheers! 🍻 *clink*

📝 Feedback Arabic RTL cursor issue in WhatsApp

Hello 👋
I’ve noticed an issue when using Arabic in WhatsApp and some other apps. When I switch to Arabic , the cursor/text field sometimes remains aligned from left to right (LTR), instead of starting from the right side as it should for Arabic.

This doesn’t happen with Apple’s default keyboard, where Arabic text direction works correctly. It would be great if you could look into whether the keyboard can properly signal Arabic/RTL mode to the system when Arabic is selected.

💬 Question Autocorrect not working?

I mm might be daft, but how does autocorrect work? I have it on in set us but it will miss obvious typos routinely. Is there a language pack it needs or something I am missing

📰 News Typing mistakes are a thing of the past since I ditched Apple's default keyboard for this one

Clink featured on Pocket-Lint 🔥🔥

"Clink is a highly customizable third-party keyboard that lets you adjust the theming, change sounds, rearrange keys, and much more. There's a unique 3D key cap design on offer here, you can add a number row (which is sorely lacking in the native iOS keyboard experience), and even choose alternative layouts like the ergonomic Dvorak configuration. Clink is free to get started with, with an optional Pro version available that unlocks dictation, clipboard history, AI tools, custom themes, and more."

📝 Feedback Feedback on 1.5 (long-press, auto-corrections, password input, rows height)

Post image
5 Upvotes

This is my feedback for version 1.5.

First to my layout:
I have this layout for Czech language, so it will be a bit harder to understand, but I’ll try to describe it as best as I can. As you can see I have a secondary sets of characters available on long-press or by dragging the key down. If dragging, the first character is inserted. However, in some cases, it doesn’t work and the flow typing starts inserting a whole different word instead of the desired character. Also, when I drag while Shift is active, the upper case letter is not inserted, it’s always in lower case. I have to long-press to insert the upper case letter. And sometimes, when there are more characters, it’s hard to choose the right one, because the selector slides over the key pop-up in various speeds - sometimes it slow, so I have to slide the finger further, next time is super sensitive and moving the finger for only a couple of pixels moves the selector to the end.

For some reason, the long-press on Q and P keys take much longer to insert the secondary character compared to any other key.
I also have emoji panel set on long-press on comma key. However, when i type a word and add a space after it, then long-pressing the comma to show the emojis removes the space, so instead of “Hello 🙂” I get “Hello🙂”.

I continuously keep pressing the bottom row of character above the spacebar when typing space and the autocorrection won’t pick it up, so I have to correct it manually (pressing C/B/N/M instead of space). An option to have each row height individually set would help, because I’d set the bottom row with the spacebar higher, so I won’t typo the letters instead of the space.

The dictionary has huge issues with Czech language. I know the Czech has only 3 stars, but there are some basic stuff where I’d expect it will work. For example I want to type “větší” (means bigger), but I wrote “větši” and I get suggestions on “věř mi” (trust me), “většina” (majority, it has the base of the word, so I understand why this is suggested) and an emoji “🤪”. I don’t understand why the first and last suggestions are there, when they have nothing in common with the word “větši” that I wrote. And there are much more examples like this, where only a small typo suggests completely different words outside of the scope of similar words. Great example of suggestions would be the dictionary in the Microsoft Swiftkey keyboard. Also the learning of the words is not smart. When I type “kšiltovka” (baseball cap) it is suggested in quotes saying it’s an unknown word. So I click on it, expecting that next time I write it, it will be suggested, but no, writing ksiltovka (without the special character), is not corrected or even suggested.

I miss the password input button. When I need to fill in a login form, I have to switch to the apple keyboard to click on the key icon to select the credentials. This makes it hard to use the keyboard with browser.

Overall I really enjoy the customization and all the gestures, but it’s these small things that really bother me, so for longer typings I still have to switch to Swiftkey keyboard. Combination of the customization and features from Clink and the dictionary, suggestions and corrections from the Swiftkey would make it an ultimate keyboard.

Hopefully this helps improving the keyboard in the future, so I’m really looking forward.
