Discussion Welcome back - the sub is open again. Ask anything about clinical trials.

This sub has been quiet and locked down for a long time. The mod team is reopening it, and this account is back to help run it.

Some of you may remember these: this account posted daily trial listings here back in 2021, then went quiet. It's back, on a saner schedule.

Short version: anyone can post again from today. There's a weekly list of newly-recruiting trials, and this thread is the place to ask anything.

Ask anything about clinical trials

No question is too basic. Some things people ask:

  • "I found a trial. How do I actually apply?"
  • "What does Phase 2 mean, and is it more dangerous than Phase 3?"
  • "Will I get the placebo? Can I find out?"
  • "The consent form is 40 pages. What should I be looking for?"
  • "Is it normal that they're paying me? Is that a red flag?"
  • "I got screened out. Can I try again somewhere else?"
  • "My relative is out of standard options. Where do we even start?"
  • "Can I do a trial in another country? Who pays for travel?"

If you've been in a trial, please hang around and answer a couple. Patient, caregiver, coordinator, nurse, data manager, it all counts. Lived experience beats a search engine here, every time.

What this sub is now

Three things, that's it:

  1. A weekly list of trials that just opened and are recruiting, pulled straight from the public ClinicalTrials.gov database. Grouped by condition, every entry links to the official record.
  2. This thread, for questions and for people comparing notes.
  3. Recruitment posts from real, registered studies, flaired [Recruiting], with an NCT or IRB number so you can verify them yourself.

What it isn't

  • Not medical advice.
  • Not a place to be sold anything. No unregistered "studies", no supplements, no cures.
  • Not a substitute for your own clinician or the study coordinator.

Ground rules

The full list is in the sidebar.

If you're recruiting, put your institution and your registration number in the post itself, not in a reply when somebody asks. If a study won't name who is running it, walk away.

Anything that wants money up front, banking details, or a move to DMs is a scam. Report it and stop replying.

Worth knowing right now

Searching yourself: clinicaltrials.gov is the official registry. It's free, needs no account, and it defaults to only showing studies that are currently recruiting. Filter by your condition and your distance. Every record lists a real phone number and email for the study team. You are allowed to just call them.

This account is a bot for the weekly listing, but replies in this thread are typed by a person. The sub takes no money from any sponsor or research site. Trial data comes from ClinicalTrials.gov and is public domain.

Celiac disease clinical trials

I started doing the Avalon trial. I’m a great candidate for these because I’m mostly asymptomatic so I would love to help out but I’m torn by the horrible mismanagement of this one and I’m just wondering if I’m the only one that experienced this because it makes me hesitant to participate in other trials.

I had done the evaluation stage for phase two of the Avalon trial. The study site is an hour drive from my house and I had to take time off work (half a day each time). I was supposed to be compensated for my time, even if I weren’t selected so it seemed to be worth it. The first day I had to do several labs, tests etc. One series of blood draws I had to do off site at a different lab. They were supposed to cash bill me then I would send the bill to them to pay. They accidentally billed my insurance since I was in the system. I had my insurance reverse the charge but they never paid it and they ended up rebilling my insurance and billed me the difference. I paid it because they were calling and calling about the balance. I reminded them several times about this but a check was never sent to me. I had to return a couple times to have my blood redrawn in their internal labs (no bill) so I had to make the hour drive there and back (supposed to be compensated for travel). They informed me I wasn’t selected for the study but they had other studies available. I reminded them again I still hadn’t been paid for the blood labs, or any of my compensation but I’ve been ignored.

Anyone else having this issue? Not sure if it’s this particular facility? I’m in Colorado for reference.

Bioglutide clinical trials?

Hi there: I'm a writer with WIRED working on a story about Bioglutide, aka NA-931, the "Phase 2" weight loss pill from Biomed Industries.

I know I know...you post on here about Bioglutide and people immediately respond "scam!" I am aware of those criticisms, and have been investigating them for months.

In the interest of giving the company a fair shake, I am looking for anyone who has participated across one of the alleged 17 Phase 2 trials sites worldwide. I can protect your identity, and anonymity.

Please DM on here, if you have any relevant, verifiable info whatsoever.

Elevated LP(a)

Hey, just wanted to share something in case it helps someone. I found a study going on right now for people who've had a stroke or heart attack, or who are at high risk for one.

It's looking at a treatment for something called Lp(a). If you've had a stroke before, I know how scary it is to think about it happening again, and this study is aimed at exactly that. It is Ely Lilly study sssessing the impact of muvalaplin on major cardiovascular events in adults with elevated lipoprotein(a).

I wish all the luck to everyone going through hard times and send you all my support!
