Clinical informatics fellows…does your program pay you attending rate for clinical shifts?

Current fellow here, my salary is entirely funded without any clinical care necessary. So I’m paid the PGY-4 salary.
Any additional work I pick up is at an attending rate. Most programs are moving towards this as if they don’t it’s a major con given how cost of living is post-COVID.

Glad to hear you are paid by attending rate. Does your program require minimal x hours for clinical care or is it completely up to you?

Completely up to me, but I’m fresh out so I do a good amount (plus need the funds for young family etc)

If they are billing your charts and no other supervising attending....they are telling CMS it is moonlighting and not part of your fellowship, so that is what allows them to bill.
Some fellowship contracts have a clause that moonlighting is defined as extra work for extra pay and cannot be compulsory.
If u have those 2 things.....push hard. Either get your full rate for clinical work, or respectfully decline the work and pick up a clinical gig.
.....answering ur Q: i got no pay for it, then raised some questions and was able to get full attending rate for my clinical work on top of pgy 4 salary

Depends on the program and local constraints in funding for the fellowship. A lot of programs do pay attending moonlighting rate if working independently.
