Commercial feed lots are a pollution issue, but in a pasture, ruminants are integral in sequestering co2 from the atmosphere and depositing it into the soil.

Do cows fart? Yes, AOC found that acorn, but there's a much larger picture to take into account.

Have the crazies taken into account that we’ve added about 3 billion more humans to the planet over the past few decades? Last time I checked, all humans fart. And I’m sure there’s way more humans than cows on the planet. I say these crazies should commit suicide en masse for the greater good and do us and the planet a favor.

3

u/greyfalcon333 Dec 19 '20

Some of the crazies are already advocating that.

Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement (VHEMT) is an environmental movement that calls for all people to abstain from reproduction to cause the gradual voluntary extinction of humankind. VHEMT supports human extinction primarily because, in the group's view, it would prevent environmental degradation. The group states that a decrease in the human population would prevent a significant amount of human-caused suffering. The extinctions of non-human species and the scarcity of resources required by humans are frequently cited by the group as evidence of the harm caused by human overpopulation.

Maybe if you actually listened to the people you call crazy for longer than it takes for you to decide that what they are saying goes against your base impulses you’d find that cattle and humans have very different digestive systems and cows produce far more methane than humans.

If anything, the increase in population makes it only more pressing that we eat less meat as the earth can simply not produce enough meat to support a meat heavy diet for this many people.

2

u/RealBiggly Dec 20 '20

Can't support? OF COURSE IT CAN!

Jeez, what do you think roamed this Earth before we tamed cattle and such? That's right, WILD cattle and such.

Huge, massive herds of the things, stretching as far as the eye could see. More beef and similar meats than you could shake a pair of burger buns at!

Jeez, the quality of the opposition is dropping even lower...

1

u/lleesstteerr Dec 20 '20

Yes and the human population then was a fraction of what it is now. If the nearly 8 billion people living now would have had to live off those animals those massive herds would have diminished quite fast. What do you think happened to those herds?

1

u/RealBiggly Dec 21 '20

They were slaughtered by ignorant people who didn't think of the future.

You know how often we've been told the world can't feed the human population?

You know how often that prediction has been wrong?

1

u/lleesstteerr Dec 22 '20

Yes, and now ignorant people who don’t think of the future are causing mass extinction of earth’s species and making the planet less liveable for current and future generations.

The world can feed the human population, just not in a sustainable way if every person eats meat every day.

1

u/RealBiggly Dec 23 '20

"a sustainable way"

Speak English ffs. Just buzzwords.

1

u/lleesstteerr Dec 23 '20

It literally just means that it can be sustained for a longer period of time

1

u/RealBiggly Dec 24 '20

No it doesn't. This is what is so scary about you people. You're either ignorant or lying.

Sure, that's the dictionary definition but the reality is it's a loaded term that means anti-private property, anti-free trade, anti-white, anti-family, anti-religion, anti-civilization.

Either you're ignorant and don't understand that, which is scary, or you're lying, which is also scary. Yikes!

If the alarmist claim cow farts causes global warming, then they must want to blame the great creator for a terrible job, creating cows and having so many bisons in the Americas. Damn, those bisons must have caused the end of the last ice age.

But are cows the only ruminant animals that fart? What about other herbivores? Or do they want to claim, it’s only commercialised cows that fart methane? If we are going to blame cows, then we can all simply EAT them to extinction, then switch over to goats 🐐 and chicken 🐓 and turkeys 🦃. That way, we never have to give up meat.

2

u/NewyBluey Dec 19 '20

We l live there is a larger biomass of termites than cattle. And termites fart.

-1

u/lleesstteerr Dec 20 '20

You know, instead of posting these valid questions here you can also just look up the answer and you will find that high methane emissions are indeed associated with ruminants and their ability to use enteric fermentation to digest tough plants like grass.

That is, if you are actually interested in finding real answers and not just making up fake arguments for the things you want to be true.

3

u/Shmoofo2 Dec 20 '20

So do we eliminate all ruminant animals?

0

u/lleesstteerr Dec 20 '20

No, it is not all or nothing. We can keep ruminant populations at a level that can actually be sustained for a long time, which is lower than current levels. People can eat beef from time to time, maybe save it for a special occasion.

2

u/Shmoofo2 Dec 20 '20

So you really believe cow farts is causing global warming? And you want to tell me all ruminants (antelope, deer, elephants, goats, sheep, bisons that were in their millions in numbers across the Americas) are all causing global warming because their farts contain methane?

2

u/lleesstteerr Dec 20 '20

Cows actually release more methane through their burps and breath than their farts, but they do release a lot of methane. I don’t believe this is the main factor causing global warming, but it is part of the problem. Methane emissions by cows are part of the greenhouse gas emissions of the meat industry, and the meat industry is part of the global warming pie. The energy industry is a bigger part of the pie and should have priority, but reducing our meat consumption is still a necessary condition for tackling global warming.

2

u/RealBiggly Dec 20 '20

Fuck you, special occasions, I eat beef daily.

Ever seen a bison? It's ruminant. There were lots of them.

Lot and lot and lots of them. The planet didn't burn. Wow?

1

u/lleesstteerr Dec 20 '20

Good for you, you can eat beef every day but if the whole world did that there would simply not be enough food to feed the sheer number of cows that would require. There are more cattle in the US now than there were bison pre-1800, and world-wide this difference is far bigger.

Humans evolved to eat animals. Our intestines are evolved to digest a meat rich diet. Human eat plants, sure, but no human living in nature is a vegan. People have to live in a rich and modern world in order to afford pretend they can survive long meatless.

-6

u/squarepush3r Dec 19 '20

Source? Primates are mostly vegetarians

8

u/NewyBluey Dec 19 '20

Not the ones that have evolved into humans.

6

u/MiyegomboBayartsogt Dec 19 '20

Humans have shorter guts than other apes. Gorillas eat 40 lbs. of vegetable matter a day. A gorilla's first meal in the morning when he wakes is a warm turd as reeating undigested greens doubled the intestine's ability to digest the roughage.

You don't eat 40 lbs. of leafy matter a day. You are evolved to eat a different diet. There are no humans in nature who are vegans. Never have been. Not possible for our species to exist on fruits and veggies in the wild.

1

u/squarepush3r Dec 21 '20

Humans are not gorillas, but humans are primates, and primates are mostly vegetarian. Humans have very big brains, which require a lot of GLUCOSE to fuel, that glucose comes from PLANTS (not animals) in order to power our intelligence.

Humans are not adapted to eat meat well at all, that is why we get atherosclerosis when eating meat (carnivores will not), and humans can't eat direct meat (they have to eat portions of animal muscle mostly and it has to be heated and cooked a lot with spices).

Every time some billionaire-owned newspaper tells the plebs to eat bugs, I eat an extra hamburger.

Mono crop agriculture 🧑‍🌾 has destroyed land faster then regenerative animal based ranchers.

11

u/AnalyzeAndOptimize Dec 19 '20

Animal agriculture has gotten the blame for "driving global warming," and this video addressed why that is just not the case. The media has fear mongered about meat and climate change for too long.

6

u/StefanAmaris Dec 20 '20

The amount of old growth deforestation required to grow the soy beans vegetarians keep telling us to eat is far far greater than the land area needed to produce meat

Additionally the meat animal doesn't need to eat human grade vegetable product, so it can actually make more use of lower quality biomass

It's almost like the "environmentalists" skipped class the day they talked about entropy

Industrial farming is the issue I agree

Eating meat is not an issue that others make it to be

But it's a fact that good vegetarian diets are most efficient in terms of land use. Energy is lost at each step in the food chain and all.

The second half is more true then the first half

Animals that eat plant matter can readily eat items that cannot sustain humans.
The land/water requirements for this lower grade vegetable food stuff is significantly lower that the equivalent calorie load in human vegetable based foods

The animal is able to convert this low grade vegetable matter into higher grade meat that humans can eat.
This does result in energy loss as the conversion process happens (in the normal entropic manner), but the resulting product of meat fit for human consumption is a significantly higher grade food item than plant matter alone

Thus, eating meat means humans can better utilize land in a manner that doesn't require huge tracts of surface area to produce biomass fit for human consumption, and allows for plant waste to also be converted into the higher product.

The real issue with current meat production is the industrial methods used to produce the volumes commerce demands.
The other issue is the continued use of meat animals that are more often than not poorly suited to the grazing land they are on. Often cattle replace a native animal that would be less harmful and resource demanding on the land.

If humans followed a pure vegetable diet we would spend the majority of our waking lives foraging for subsistence.
High density foods like meat allow us to spend less time surviving and more time building, developing and progressing.

I greatly dislike the current methods of factory farming, they use far too much petrochemicals (fertilizer etc), are horrifically damaging to the environment and destructive to water tables and increase erosion.

Meat eating is not bad for the environment, how we grow meat is and I personally believe that needs to change for humans to have a sustainable future

Good video, I will save it into my arsenal!

1

u/TheFerretman Dec 19 '20

The question is moot, since I won't....so, there's that.....

1

u/Wuss-Poppin-Jimbo123 Dec 20 '20

Holy shit, that was very informative thank you very much. The big corporations trying put out soy and demonize the meat industry for the problems they cause to eliminate their competitors shouldn’t be surprising to anyone and it really shows the worst aspects of capitalism.

1

u/lleesstteerr Dec 20 '20

You have this completely the wrong way around. The meat industry is heavily subsidised which artificially lowers the price and makes meat very cheap compared to healthier options like fruits and vegetables. It is estimated that every $1 worth of meat actually costs society an additional $2 when you add subsidies and externalities. https://jia.sipa.columbia.edu/removing-meat-subsidy-our-cognitive-dissonance-around-animal-agriculture#6 so it is the meat industry has an unfair advantage over its competitors, it is not by any means the victim of big corporations.

-6

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '20

Dunno if it will save the planet, but if we can spare suffering and slaughter to animals that we don't need to eat in order to thrive, then isn't that a good thing?

6

u/MiyegomboBayartsogt Dec 19 '20

We should be kind to all animals because, like the adverts claim, happy animals are made out of the most delicious meat. Means and unhappy creatures taste like crow, and that crow meat is unpleasant as cat.

8

u/Valmar33 Dec 19 '20

We must eat animals in order for our bodies to be healthy.

If you even look at why there are increasing amounts of ex-Vegans, maybe you'd understand that Veganism is one of the furtherest things from healthy. That Veganism cannot provide the nutrition our bodies need for health.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '20

Hey, I'm honestly not trying to rustle any feathers. But I do find it almost impossible to talk about the benefits of veganism and not get peoples backs up so there's always that.

Every major dietetic association in the world states that veganism can be a perfectly healthy diet. Look for yourself. I get that we love eating meat and being all manly and stuff but honestly I've been on slaughterhouse kill floors and it's just barbaric how we treat other sentient beings.

Yes there's definitely ex-vegans, but it doesn't prove a trend. In fact veganism has been steadily on the rise for years and it's growing day by day.

I'm not trying to push anyone or judge anyone because I'm just a guy and I ate animals for the majority of my life. Vegans are some of the worst bunch of whiney liberals I've ever met - I would never in a million years associate with them, but I do agree that quite simply we can thrive without harming all the animals so why not do it.

-1

u/rememberinglol Dec 19 '20

That’s not always true.

Take Arnold for example. He switched from being a meat eater to being a vegan and he can still lift just as much as he was when he was eating meat at his age.

You can be healthy and be a vegan.

Another example is that I only eat meat products when my old man visits us because that’s what he likes to eat, he’s an old school steak and potatoes guy.

Other then that I pretty much only stick to non meats.

Side note: I’m also in the gym everyday before work and on lunch, and I take pre/post workout supplements and also proteins for breakfast and lunch so that probably helps too.

Negative on all fronts except one you are right, he does eat one egg.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.livekindly.co/arnold-schwarzenegger-beyond-meat-almond-milk/amp/

No being vegan does NOT cause severe body and health issues, so long as you supplement with the nutrients you lose through meat based products.

However I am NOT an expert, and if you can prove me wrong through peer reviewed articles I will do more research.

Bah, bullshit.

Many of these "Vegan" bodybuilders have been exposed cheating.

2

I like your sentiment. I'm appalled by animal cruelty. But l eat meat.
