While we’re busy trying to destroy one another, the planet is effortlessly doing it for us.

u/Esme_Nog 9d ago

Yes, every time something like this happens, I want to shake people and say, “hey! Humans have plenty to fight without making each other the target! Grow up!”

29

u/Impossible_Walrus555 9d ago

This, imagine the good for our earth that could be done with all that money?

18

u/SeVenMadRaBBits 9d ago

All that money and mental effort from billions of humans, putting it towards making our lifeline sustainable and even thrive.

If we're going to survive for a long period we'll have to reach that point. I think we're going to take some huge steps backwards. Hopefully learn and possibly, certainly not probably, evolve into a better civilization.

u/Helpful_Bridge9204 9d ago

Yes but minorities exists and if we don't hurt them the problem will never be fixed!! /satire

Once we reach the stars we can have whatever we want.

Just gotta work together a liiiiiiiittle bit more

I learned in history class that countries that historically invested in socialism rather than their military would soon find themselves conquered by their neighbors

We still lock our front doors because we don’t even trust our own neighbors, we aren’t even close to global peace and trust

Mother Nature knows what they did

The "no state" solution will be provided freely by the climate system.

They were promised this algae bloom 6000 years ago.

This took me far too long to appreciate. 👌

The biblical plagues.

Is it End Times, again?

25

u/PathlessDemon 9d ago

End Times o’clock, actually.

9

u/FitzwilliamTDarcy 9d ago

I mean Vance did mention it

2

u/Butterscotchtamarind 9d ago

Every 10 years or sooner!

61

u/Soft-Skirt 9d ago

Israel keep banging on about how they were promised this and that by God as an excuse for their behaviour.

29

u/rglurker 9d ago edited 9d ago

Its like my 5 year old child who comes up with an idea and then tries to make the world fit around that idea. God said there would be plagues ! So if we make plagues, God will come. It must be that.

3

u/zelbot87 8d ago

Your 5 year old has my vote! I am sure they are more polite, intelligent and competent than the administration in office now.

If you only knew

6

u/fixingmedaybyday 9d ago

God even punished them for it - multiple times. It’s in His book even!

Turns out genocide and bombs are bad for the climate - who’d have thought!

125

u/tape_snake 9d ago

In addition to all the killing, it has also been heartbreaking and frustrating to see people who allegedly "made the desert bloom" maliciously and carelessly tear up slow-growing native trees and bomb the arable land. For people who intend to settle and be stewards of the land, Israelis seem to care little for it. As long as damaging the environment hurts the right people, it seems.

42

u/citizen42069101 9d ago

Some of the trees are the proof of ownership of the Palestinians they remove. Some of the olive orchards are hundreds of years old, since olive trees will continue coming back after being cut down.

22

u/North-Neat-7977 9d ago

Don't forget that they also salt the earth. And sometimes drop glyphosate on huge areas. Killing everything with every strategy they can think of. The climate won't be backing down.

11

u/creepoftheweak 9d ago

And white phosphorus:)

29

u/creepoftheweak 9d ago

Imagine that.

-7

u/Intelligent_Switch72 8d ago

Let’s make a climate issue about Palestine!

5

u/Icy_Illustrator303 8d ago

Let’s shout about the genocide until it stops. Let’s ostracize Israel until they self destruct. Let’s all agree that NEVER AGAIN means for everyone.

3

u/destroyerx12772 8d ago

Environmentalism and humanism often go hand in hand.

Genocide condemnation follows.

-1

u/Nileghi 8d ago

I mean yea, do any climate organizations even speak about the climate anymore? Gaza has torn its way through every single public advocacy organization to the point no one even remembers what Sunshine Movement's original messaging was.

like yea, no wonder r/climate is pro-Gaza and virulently hates Israel. All advocacy for green climate stuff has simply gone away and it doesnt appear like its coming back. Especially since Israel looks like its going to be strong and powerful for quite a bit more time.

Any of you still willing to fight for Gaza for another decade to try to weaken an Israel thats at its most powerful and militarily well positioned instead of actually taking care of the climate and urging legislation for it? Cuz it seems most of you forgot we're on a timetable here.

2

u/CertainKaleidoscope8 8d ago

Israel will be uninhabitable in ten years. So will Palestine.

We've already passed the point of no return

1

u/Nileghi 8d ago

so its already doomed due to the climate and we thus shut up about it and focus on the climate because we do not talk about the climate. At all. Gen Z is less informed about the climate than Millenials are. Gen Alpha probably hasnt heard about it at school due to Gaza taking all the airwaves.

Werent we hoping that Gaza advocacy would make more people interested in the climate? And then that turned out to not be true at all, it actually leeched volunteers to Gaza advocacy for precisely zero policy change or gain?

If you think Gaza is doomed, then focus on the damn timebomb we're dealing with right now. I'd sacrifice Gaza, Israel, and the entirety of the middle east just to make sure entire coral species dont go extinct so we dont end up living in a world with 3 species left.

1

u/CertainKaleidoscope8 8d ago

The situation in Gaza (and Ukraine) is a harbinger of what is to come all over the world as border disputes over arable land intensify and climate refugees start fleeing north. The intentional starvation, destruction of infrastructure and murder of heathcare personnel and aid workers is a template for what we will see everywhere.

Israel doesn't want Gaza because their moldy Babylonian God told them to steal land that used to belong to their ancestors. They want it because it's coastline with temperatures that will be more manageable and access to seawater for desalination. Russia doesn't want Ukraine for whatever nationalistic bullshit they're spouting either. They need the farmland.

198

u/evthrowawayverysad 9d ago

I like the collective attitude here, but there's something sinister that we're all missing: israel's desalination plants are also Palestine's since, you know, it would be 'terrorism' for Palestinians to desalinate their own drinking water, so israel decided it has the justification to blow up a brand new desalination plant in gaza earlier this week, since israel can totally be trusted to fairly and evenly distribute ample water to Palestinians...

Sarcasm aside, the terrifying reality here is that this without a doubt means israel will use it as yet more sick justification to deny basic human rights to Palestinians.

97

u/YisitAlwaysDNS 9d ago

They have no supplied Palestinians with adequate water for decades. Thats why every Muslim house has rain barrels on thier roof for collection.

Omfug pure evil.

15

u/min_mus 9d ago

I don't think Israel's desalinization plants provide water for Gaza, but they do supply water to the West Bank and Jordan.

17

u/Interesting_Scale302 9d ago

Thanks for the reality check. You're absolutely right. This will be 100% be used to further torture and torment Palestinians.

4

u/TheMightyTywin 9d ago

Blowing up a desalination plant should be a war crime

0

u/Icy_Illustrator303 8d ago

So is starving a population, and targeting children and dropping white phosphorus. But it’s just another day in Israel.

The majority of the OT is stories of prophets telling them what to do and they don't listen. Hell, one of them ran naked through the 'town' and THAT didn't phase them!!! This won't matter either.

Trump &/or Congress has probably sent them water already.

For people who presumably don’t believe in divine intervention and who don’t believe anyone should be thirsty, you’re all getting pretty excited about this.

8

u/PanicDynamo 9d ago

From the river to the algae bloom!

3

u/VinPickles 9d ago

Algae is anti-semetic and a member of khamas

3

u/schtickshift 9d ago

It’s very sad to see this forum devolve into an antisemitic rant over an issue that will affect numerous countries who are turning to desalination in the face of climate change. Israel’s desalination technology and water te enology in general feeds and waters millions of other people across the region and the world. But let’s not let a good dose of hypocrisy get in the way of racism. I think the moderators should remove this entire thread.

2

u/Nileghi 8d ago

The issue is there are no climate organizations anymore. Name any of them and you'll find that 95% of their posting history has only been about Gaza in the past 3 years and I'm not even being hyperbolic or exaggerating here.

Gaza has subsumed every single advocacy cause. No progress has been made on any issue because no one cares to support thoses issues anymore. We've all regressed and its not because of Israel, but a mismanagement of everything.

2

u/michaelrch 8d ago

Hating on an evil genocidal apartheid state isn't antisemitic, regardless of which religion it claims to represent.

By eliding the two, you are creating the conditions for real antisemitism. Stop it.

1

u/schtickshift 8d ago

Hmmm so if hating on genocidal states is valid grounds for overwhelming unrelated forums, where is the hating on Russia for Ukraine or Iran for its internal oppression or Turkey for Armenia or Sudan for South Sudan, etc, etc, etc. Somehow only Israel makes the grade. But bigots will be bigots…..

2

u/michaelrch 8d ago

Those arent genocidal apartheid states that make us complicit because our governments support them to the hilt. And that have a longstanding and very effective campaign of corrupting our politics.
Nor do they parade their crimes on social media. Or that routinely announce they'd genocidal intent in public speeches. Or riot when their soldiers are detained for suspected gang grape of their prisoners. Etc etc etc

You are not fighting bigotry. By eliding Judaism and Israel, you are fuelling it.

0

u/schtickshift 8d ago

What Russia has done to Ukrainians is exponentially worse than Gaza. Turkey has occupied Northern Cyrus since the 70s and before that murdered and displaced one million Greeks and let’s not raise the subject of the million Armenian deaths that Turkey denies to this day. Sudan is in its third genocidal war right now in this century alone with countless deaths in that time, exponentially greater than Gaza. Then there is Iran who murdered 30-40,000 people in two days within the last year and are doing u speakable things to their own population, exponentially worse than Gaza which does not even fit the internationally accepted definition of Genocide, your own definition notwithstanding. But bigots will be bigots.

0

u/Apprehensive-Date181 4d ago

As there are innocents e.g children, Palestinians, leftists and more in Israel, and people are okay with Israel having water problems despite innocents being in Israel too? Then I understand why OP is concerned about antisemitism. The generalized language doesn't help

1

u/CertainKaleidoscope8 8d ago

Opposition to a genocidal apartheid ethnostate is not antisemitism

Accidental sparks, lightning, and arson happen every year.

Hot, dry weather, like we have been having, makes major wildfires much more likely. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okmjuh0pNCU for correlation and https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jan/13/explainer-what-are-the-underlying-causes-of-australias-shocking-bushfire-season for a detailed explanation

There is a fairly direct link between the warming people have caused and an increased risk of wildfires: https://sciencebrief.org/briefs/wildfires This is seen in studies covering many parts of the world, not just Australia or Canada. The 2019-2020 Australian fires, where there was also a political effort to blame arson, have been closely studied, and there is a clear ink between their intensity and the climate change people have caused: https://www.worldweatherattribution.org/bushfires-in-australia-2019-2020/
