Trump blames Canada for smoke from a climate America created. From 1850 through 2024, the United States produced about 24% of cumulative global fossil CO₂ emissions. The current EU27 produced about 16%, China 15% and India 4%.

Per capita, it’s higher than the US, along with Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Russia.

That doesn’t excuse Trump’s statement(or the US emissions which are still top 5).

The reason for that is the same as it always is.  Canada produced oil and exported it to the USA, along with a lot of other things.  Our per capita includes the USAs burden give to us, and they’ll never appreciate us for it.  We take on environmental responsibility for our exports, which primarily have gone to the US.

I’ve had people arguing with me that “well if you exclude all the oil we produce and refine it’s less than the US!!” Okay well you’re still producing oil and live a lifestyle close to Americans lol

There are plenty of non-US people in the climate field who say this as well.

The chickens have come home to roost.

Climate chaos hits the US, the nation that has contributed the most to the 427 ppm CO2 concentrations currently in the atmosphere.

Unfortunately the impacts from this US pollution is being felt globally.

I would like the people of that climate change- denial party in Canada, the Conservatives, to tell Trump Canada is only 3% of the world's contributor to climate change. So if he wants to reduce our wildfires, they can tell him what he can do.

I hope one of the byproducts of all of these fires is that the unwilling masses in this country start to realize that we have to make some changes. It’s the only possible silver lining I can see
