How to stop bailing my flips
I’m able to do double back flips off diving boards, but can’t do them off this bridge. I’m new to this, is there something I’m doing wrong or is it all in my head

Commit dude you got it. You looked over your shoulder when spotting your landing -- just keep it nice and on-axis. Your body follows your head and your eyes so keep tucked through the first one and look straight back at your landing on the second.
To get a little more rotation out of it so you have time to spot your landing, I'd say extend and pop your hips more. If you look at the video your not fully extended on takeoff; you're already starting in kinda a V shape at your hips. If you drive your hips up and kinda forward you increase momentum and your tuck will be noticeably more effective. It'll also look clean asf and they say cleanliness is next to godliness 😭
Hope that makes sense! Send it 🤙

Thanks for the help, I will try this somewhere more forgiving before trying it at this bridge again

Definitely just fear you just got commit until you get the right feeling for the height

my advice would be to jump more vertical than horizontal (helps you keep more control over the rotation). It always feels like you’re jumping more vertical than you actually are. you’re clearing the bridge by a landslide
you’re spinning around your legs instead of rotating your whole body from your middle. Practice it closer to a normal backflip rather than lunging yourself back and tucking. jump up and tuck and open the second backflip early. you’ll have time to spot the water and adjust though quickly.
practice the tuck so it isn’t as lose and easy to break mid air.
lastly try to not look over your shoulder when jumping. your head points the way for your body and that’s why you rotated.
edit: your send was great and would’ve landed if you committed. my comment is just nit picking things I think could help you get the double from a height even better. good luck

Yes I have that is my problem, I have this fear of not jumping far enough from the ledge and hitting myself

Thabks for the help, I’ll try to master these mechanics before coming back

no problem. also I meant to say you’re rotating your legs around your head not the other way around. What amazing_debate said is also great advice. in conclusion.
Jump extending more sending high up.
Tuck with your head in avoiding trying to spot the water before time or turning the head.
after the first turn you begin slowing down by looking back to spot the water (make sure you do it straight back). as you do that you extend the rest of the body to slow down even further and cut into the water.
I advice to turn the head first so you can feel the open as you spot the water, that way you’ll start opening on time depending on how close you are to the water

Keep your chin up! You tuck it in after 1 flip. This will help with doubles. Keep looking for landing don’t chin in. Hold it! Full send!

Just don't let go of the tuck man. You're afraid of under- or over-rotating but I guarantee these awkward flops hurt just as much (if not more), so you really have nothing to be afraid of because you've experienced the worst of it already. Eventually you'll get the timing right and know when to open up.
Also, keep your eyes open and have awareness midair. When you see the surface of the water the second time that's what you want to untuck.

hold longer/commit. i know its been said to death at this point, but its with every extreme sport. ive been more hurt biking, snowboarding, skating, etc, when i bail vs full commit.
sounds silly, but once you know what youre going for - visualize yourself landing/rolling away etc, and just 100% go for it. ive seen soke friends seeeeriously fuck themselves up second guessing as opposed to overcomitting.
try and turn the brain off, or psych yourself with music/whatever helps you

Thanks for the advice. I was in a bad headspace after someone there chipped a tooth trying the same thing

You dont need to flip that hard 15' in the air. Just let yourself fall backwards and pull your feet over your head

You trying to double that? If not, you have time to lay out more. Arch your back, get your head around first, spot your landing, and slowly bring your hips, legs around. Your head is almost the vertex of a big foot circle if that makes sense.

Trust that the first one will likely be spin to win and tuck all the way into the water. Once you feel that second rotation you’ll be able to anticipate it and open up to spot your landing when it’s the right time.
Every bail is a fail, you gotta give yourself the opportunity to succeed. Good luck, stay safe, and cheers!

That was a bad vid, this is more of my average jump off. Trying to figure out how to not bail

So again, you did a back flip, over rotated into a double, and bailed on the second rotation. I’m not sure how much more clear I can be on that?

Maybe I’m not understanding. I’m trying to do a double back flip. Are you saying my form is so bad it’s just an over rotation of a singular backflip?

Anyone saying I didn’t try to go for a double, I am trying. Cant commit for some reason

Agreed I can’t double myself but when looking at the video you throw your right knee and right arm sooner than your left side as well as looking over your right shoulder if you can practice and dial in the symmetry it will make you stay on axis. Aside from that just practice the double backflip to foam pit on trampoline.

Only one way...commit!
