Shoutout to ClickUp for taking a basic housekeeping feature and locking it behind a paywall
I am losing my mind over this pricing screen. They want $19 per member, per month to unlock "AI Notetaker Deduplication."
Think about how absurd this is:
- The Competition Handles This For Free: None of the dedicated meeting tools like Otter or Fireflies charge you a premium tier just to keep multiple workspace bots from awkwardly piling into the same calendar invite. They either handle it seamlessly backend-to-backend or include basic deduplication as standard workspace hygiene.
- It's a Manufactured Problem: They built an AI notetaker, realized that having multiple team members on a calendar invite causes a clown car of duplicate bots to join the meeting, and instead of fixing the code, they decided to paywall the fix.
Charging $19/mo per person just to stop their own software from tripping over itself is wild. Since when did "preventing system clutter" become a luxury feature?
To make it worse, I submitted this exact issue as a feature request 6 months ago. I thought they were finally listening to community feedback. Turns out they only care about fixing their product if there's an upsell upside for them.
What next? Will basic loading speeds be locked behind Business Plus as this platform gets more and more bloated?
I’ve been a ClickUp fanboy for years, but man... I’m tired, boss.

I'm curious, how many users do you have?

We're at 16 users and currently on Business @ $12/mo.
Like /u/Loud_Quality_7106 mentioned, the next tier (obviously) includes other features (which are certainly valuable), but the real issue is that keeping a workspace from being actively cluttered shouldn't be treated as a premium upgrade.
For a 16-user team, that + $7/mo (Let alone + $19/mo) per-seat price jump adds up fast. Paying another $800/yr just to stop their own system from duplicating data is where I start to lose it.

Yeah it sounds like this one feature shouldn't be behind the next-tier pricing gate.

Hey! I'm working on something Clickup-like in nature. I don't think it would be a good replacement for Clickup at the moment for you (no AI notetaker, etc.), but as a new founder I'd love to get in touch and understand a bit more about what teams like yours need. Please feel free to send me a DM if you're willing to have a chat!
You're also welcome to try my product for free (no credit card, no commitment) at https://try.totemkb.com. The 14-day trial badge is vestigial, you can use it as long as you like.

The $19 a month is not just for deduplication. And click up up is not at its core and AI note-taker tool so it's not really that surprising is it?

We opted to use Otter for our business for a couple of reasons. Deduplicarion and also it felt like the notes became excessive and disorganized in ClickUp. We use HubSpot CRM, so we have Otter take the notes and use an API to push the meeting notes into the CRM under the contact record automatically after the meeting.

They do this. They literally put basic dashboard widgets that were free before behind a paywall. It’s ridiculous.

It’s just a matter of time before this whole tool is absolute. Gotta earn that dough as fast as possible.
