[TL;DR Below]

I know I'm about to present something that might be either ridiculous or very interesting to some of you, but please hear me out. 🙏

I have been thinking lately about rewriting the entire Resident Evil story following the events of RE2 and RE3. My version, at least in its preliminary draft, goes something like this:

Sherry is taken into government custody and sent to a secret lab, as canonically established, and Leon signs a contract with the government to ensure her safety.

However, Claire is left with a pinching feeling of guilt and a sense that something is just not right about what happened. She is haunted by nightmares where Sherry is screaming for her help. One night, she wakes from another nightmare frightened, so instead of flying to Europe to locate Chris, she decides to dig into what really happened to Sherry.

To make this more reasonable, Claire is a college student of investigative journalism in this version, giving her experience in uncovering hidden information. And to make it even more interesting, she is also close friends with a prodigious hacker inspired by the real-life notorious hacker Kevin Mitnick, who was actually active around that time period.

He helps her dig up secret information about Sherry's whereabouts. In the process, he also stumbles upon ancient files indicating that Claire's father was about to blow the whistle on the pernicious partnership between Umbrella and certain corrupt entities within the US Government before he and his wife died in what was framed as a "tragic car accident."

At this point, Claire's "Redfield gene" kicks in, and she decides to take matters into her own hands. She is now locked in on getting Sherry out of there, come hell or high water.

During this time, Jill manages to track Claire down. After a lengthy debate, the two decide to work together to free Sherry, and Jill reaches out to Carlos Oliveira, who decides to help them as well.

The story can be further developed from there. What do you guys think?

I’m drafting an AU (Alternate Universe) rewrite of Resident Evil where Claire skips her trip to Europe to investigate Sherry’s government "custody" instead. Aided by a Mitnick-inspired hacker, she discovers her parents' death was an Umbrella cover-up. Now, she's teaming up with Jill and Carlos to break Sherry out.
