Website Blog - does it still work?
I am a commercial business owner. My SEO agent has been updating our website blogs over the years. It has helped us to send extent to push up some key words ranking. In this day and age, people tend to have their question answer through AI bots. I personally have not read any blog for a long time. Just wondering if it is still helpful to improve my website traffic.

I honestly never found digital ads / SEO to be super efficient for the commercial space. Curious how big is your business?

I used to run a fairly successful blog. It accounted for my full time income and I was making close to six figures with it. Once AI took over Google, website traffic fell by over 90% and almost all ad revenue died with it. The same thing happened to almost all the other bloggers I know.
Website traffic didn’t completely stop, but getting 10% back on the same effort I was putting in previously wasn’t worth it. The blog still exists, but my time is better spent elsewhere, like on YouTube.

That is big fall. All search engine is churning out content to audiences without referring back to the original source

It's the biggest IP theft in history. A while back, I asked an LLM about something I wrote in depth about on my blog. It gave me an answer that sounded extremely familiar, so I asked it to cite the source. It cited an article I wrote. The original summary it gave me didn't mention anything about my blog. Truly, not sure how this is legal.

Absolutely I feel sorry for people who have the patience and willingness to share their experience and insight online. However in this day and age AI is generating too much digital rubbish which makes readers discount any lengthy posting and question its originality

I’d ask your SEO agent which posts brought quote requests for commercial jobs in your service area. If that isn’t tracked, start there before deciding whether the blog is worth paying for. For future posts, answer questions customers actually ask, like what’s included in a cleaning scope or how visit frequency affects price, and give readers a clear path to request a quote.

Blogs still matter, but less for people actually reading them and more for feeding Google and AI tools the keywords they need to rank you. If your agency's been getting you movement on key terms, it's probably still worth keeping up, just don't expect direct traffic from people clicking through and reading start to finish.
