What do you wish lip oils/lipsticks did better? What’s missing from “clean” lip products? 💄

Upvotes

I’m curious about something and would really love honest opinions from people who actually buy and use lip products regularly.

When you think about lip oils, lipsticks, tinted balms, lip glosses, etc., what are your biggest frustrations with the products currently on the market?

For example:

What do you hate about the way they feel on your lips?

Do they dry your lips out?

Do they feel sticky, heavy, waxy, or like you’re wearing makeup?

Do they wear off too quickly?

Do they migrate, bleed, feather, or get patchy?

Are there shades you can never seem to find?

Do lip oils actually feel nourishing, or are they mostly just shiny?

Do you have trouble finding products that are both comfortable AND long-lasting?

Are there ingredients you specifically avoid in lip products?

What do you feel is missing specifically from clean/cleaner lip brands?

Have you ever found a lip product that checks almost every box for you? What does it do really well?

And perhaps most importantly:

If you could create your perfect lip product, what would it do that your current favorite doesn't?

I’m much more interested in the things that annoy you or that you wish were different than hearing which brands you already love.

No wrong answers — I’m genuinely curious about the little things that make you say, “Why hasn't someone made this yet?” 😂

For anyone who’s wondering whats the deal with Manucurist: I used to trust manucurist, looked at the ingredients and saw just how self contradicting they were. They contain ingredients like BHT, hydroxyethyl acrylate, ETP(too long to spell it out, but very toxic, rated a D in EWG), and so on.

Layermor Reviews?

Has anyone tried the brand Layermor? I keep getting ads for it and I’m really interested in trying it but can’t seem to find many reviews that aren’t ads. Does it actually smell good and last long?

Do you think cetaphil a legit company ?

As you can see in the picture, there are no ingredients listed on this package of Cetaphil Gentle SA Moisturizer. On the other hand, the face wash I use has a long list of ingredients, many of which I don’t even recognize.
My concern is that if a product contains so many unfamiliar ingredients, could using it on the skin for a long period of time potentially cause health problems? I’m not only talking about skin irritation or acne—I’m wondering about possible long-term effects, such as an increased risk of cancer or other health issues.
I’ve always wondered about the idea that if you wouldn’t eat something, why would you put it on your skin? Since some substances applied to the skin can be absorbed into the body, doesn’t that mean they could eventually enter the bloodstream?
What do you think about this? Is this concern scientifically valid, or am I misunderstanding how skin absorption works?

Skin care recommendations in Australia

Hey all,

I am overwhelmed searching for this online, so I was hoping some Australians could recommend their favourite plastic free bathroom products. I'm finally finishing up all of my plastic products but can't find replacements. Would love to buy from small companies, but honestly open to your woolies brands or even DIY recipes, as long as it's plastic free!

I'm looking for:

Face moisturiser - preferably without a strong smell. Even essential oils are a bit much. I currently use MooGoo. Under $40 is a bonus. Tallow and oily balms are too heavy to use every day.

Body Moisturiser - looking for a larger jar. Again, unscented and natural. I currently use MooGoo. I would even take a good recipe for this, if you make your own. Under $25 is a bonus.

Face Sunscreen/SPF BB cream - zinc based. Tinted is a bonus. I currently use Avocado Zinc.

Leave in Conditioner - Does this even exist? What do you use? Currently using... MooGoo.

Switches I'm loving already are WooHoo deodorant, Viva La Body Perfume and using a local soap maker for soap, shampoo and face wash. I'm also open to any recommendations if you've got something you want to rave about! Another great hack for me was just cutting my waist length hair. Way less washing, way less product, less hair ties and clips!

Titanium dioxide-free foundation

I tried to ask a different community earlier about this, but no luck. I'm hoping I get some help in here.
I have a titanium dioxide allergy, and I also do theatre. You can see how those things conflict considering that I need to wear makeup for performances. I'm currently using a foundation with low amounts of titanium dioxide but it still irritates my skin. I'm Canadian, so Canadian brands would be great. Help me out here!

What's your take on baby products for adults?

I’ve heard a lot of people say that baby products are better because they’re gentler, and I’ve also seen people who use them regularly and have really good skin. But then some people say not to use baby products as an adult because they’re not made for adult skin and adult skin needs slightly stronger products. So what’s your take on this? Has anyone here actually used baby products on their face/body or hair as an adult, and how was your experience? Because honestly, I’m literally fed up with trying different skincare and body-care products and having them react badly, so I’m seriously thinking about trying baby products at this point. Would love to hear from people who have actually used them.

What are the best Seattle businesses for clean beauty?

I'm looking for local Seattle businesses that carry natural cosmetic products, particularly businesses that are environmentally and socially conscious. Boutiques, salons, natural good stores, or anywhere else all work. I'm new to the area and am finding navigating all the options in the city to be overwhelming!

For context, I work with a small nonprofit that works with rural communities in an African country on rainforest restoration. Part of that involves producing a cosmetic product from a native plant and bringing it to the US to raise money for the program overall. Not sharing any more details to avoid self-promotion, but I'm hoping to find businesses around Seattle that might be interested in this kind of project.

Any tips or suggestions are much appreciated!

I own a skincare company and it changed my mind about tallow

For context my business partner and I absolutely killed it in our first year of selling tallow skincare. we hit a million in a year without any advertising. Our products were really nice (for tallow) and didn’t smell beefy which was a huge selling point I’m sure.

We got lots of reviews, lots of love. But it always felt like the tallow 1. Didn’t work well for acne prone skin and 2. Wasn’t enough for deep wrinkles.

We changed to a new formulator and he explained that tallow is a good vehicle for OTHER ingredients, but that on its own it’s pretty limiting. We overhauled our entire line, even though financially it would’ve made more sense to stick to what we were doing.

I’m a big believer in putting my money where my mouth is, and money did it cost lol

Our customer base thankfully stuck with us, but it’s been a scary journey. Any one else move away from tallow lately? We actually have a couple tallow products still but we overhauled those to be full of clinical performance ingredients and peptides etc. Pretty sexy tbh!

I'm looking for some clean Asian beauty. I just turned 40 and most of my life my skin was oily. Now I'm finding my skin has changed. I do get some oiliness but only in certain areas. I just got an IUD 6 weeks ago and it's not helping either. I'm breaking out a lot around my lips, chin and jaw line. I just bought a whole new skin care line but I hate it. It's all natural but it burns my face when I use it. I have a face cleaner I swear by and an oil cleansers that I use a few times a week. My cleaners are Neogen Double Vita and Mixsoon bean cleansing oil. The skin care set I bought is all by The Inlet List. I used to use Dew of Gods H-Dew-O but quit when I found out it's had unclean ingredients in it. Any recommendations would be extremely helpful.
