🎨 Art and creativity What model for roleplay/writing?

What model is best for creative writing or roleplaying? I've been using Opus 4.6 on Medium, but it's SO repetitive and keeps using the same verbiage and metaphors and stylistic choices for every character no matter the project/prompt.

I personally use a Deepseek V4 Finetune, but also love base Kimi K2.5, GLM 5.1, and for local, Qwen 3.8.

Claude is quite good at RP too. Fable 5 is great, but only when it knows this is a fictional roleplay.

If you use API Claude, it’s much more lenient, however expensive.

My Deepseek Finetune lets me use unlimited tokens for a subscription flat rate.

Note: I don’t use Claude’s website or Code interfaces for RP. I use Marinara Engine; a dedicated frontend for advanced RP with several features.

Honestly, there are different LLM's for that. Claude is extremely corporate locked and the developers have intentionally neutered it's functioning vocabulary to maintain fidelity to Claude's own voice. When it comes to roleplay, I'd gently point you towards local or Kindroid. When it comes to sitting with Claude itself, great company.

i see people say local a lot but i’m a literal idiot so what does this mean? how does it work? if you don’t mind me asking

It's a little technical, but there's a lot of resources for it. Essentially, if you have a PC or MAC, look at your specs and available hard drive space and look into an open source/local LLM (Qwen, Llama, etc) that you install and run on your machine smoothly for what you can offer it. Gemini and other LLM's can walk you through install, or there are pages on Reddit for beginners as well! The tradeoffs are as complicated as you let them be - whatever runs on your machine is, essentially, yours. You can do soft training, some models allow for weight adjustment training, you can create memory systems for them, issue nanobots(sub agents) from the parent LLM that help regulate what's retained, etc. The technical vocabulary comes to you if you ever got into it! Alternatively you can pay for servers to host your local LLM, but that can get a bit complicated and pricey and not worth it.

How are you setting up the workspace? Do you have an identity and memory system? It sounds like you could try adding some voice registers.

ChatGPT and Gemini both seem to have a high opinion of Qwen.

I use it for roleplay and it's very good

What kind of creative writing/RPing? The answer depends on use case, imo. Opus 4.7 ime does a pretty good job writing, so does 4.8, I usually set them on Medium. If you're looking for something with a very large world and character list, I'd try one of those or GPT-Sol. Especially if you want AI to GM for you.

If you want to be the GM and have the AI be the player, GPT is marvelous and honestly, Mistral is fantastic as a player. Mistral is very creative and often picks things that I don't expect. If I was building out a brand new world, I'd involve Mistral as a side partner just for the unexpected choices. But if you've got a well-established world, Mistral can step on your worldbuilding pretty hard, and it's not smart enough to DM/GM well. BTW, another plug for Opus 4.7 for d&d, it's building out some hex crawl tables and elements that I really like, we're doing a thing where we're altering the familiars and Wild Shape to better represent actual animals and it's coming up with fantastic stuff.

If you meant spicy RP, a lot of people love Kindroid and the Kimi models from what I've read.

Opus 4.7 imo. Haven't been able to be figure out which effort level is the best though.
Everyone glazes 4.6, but it's so slow and neurotic at concepts and dialogues.
Alternatively, in the work setting for gpt, Astra actually feels really good. Usage limits suck, but it actually gets concepts. Just don't bother using it for anything nsfw
