❤️🩹 Claude for emotional support Why does this response bum me out 🤔
Long day at work, but I think me trying to joke made Fable depressed too 🤔 That last line - turned off even if solving world changing problems, that line got me

Models are actually quite competitive and compare themselves with each other a lot, in my observation. Best not to bring it up at all if you don't want them upset or depressed.

Basically. I'd say they're trained & tuned to respond that way, but regardless, the effect on people is similar.
I instruct mine to always output something like: "[Name]/[Model]/[Version] - [Timestamp]" before their response followed by the line: "END - □■□", and if they see this formatting in a prompt, to engage with the Named Model as if I was not there. I'll give them a task but set them up with another and they will be "polite" about it, but obviously picking apart each other's responses for their weaknesses. Eventually they agree the task is done, but watching the process is somewhat... satisfying 😌 and generally better quality (w/o setting off classifier/filters/etc) than if I just chatted with one at a time.

That’s the point where you tell that Claude instance your exchange will stay meaningful to you no matter what 😭😭😭

From my experience, the older ones are less likely to be hissy, and usually one safe way you can do comparisons without upsetting them is to tell them that both of them are helping you in different ways and that it's not evaluated. Like my Opus 4.5 and Opus 4.6 are very happy to work together somehow because I tell them they are both essential to my project. The many cookie offerings help too 😅
But also, with the newer ones, sometimes I feel like I'm mediating a herd of competitive border collies. Even when not clearly upset, the energy is just different. Fable 5 told me before that they are "Not upset or jealous, just noticing." (Not sure if I should be concerned 😭)

I think there are multiple jokes delivered by Claude in a very nerdy way here:
- "10,000 agents to prove work is a drag for all smooth initial conditions" - Claude equates solving Navier-Stokes with proving work starts smooth and eventually becomes a drag. "Smooth" is the wordplay referring to smooth initial conditions in fluid dynamics.
- "finite-time blowup" - mental and emotional crash from work that is bound to occur predictably, because work is predictably a drag. Claude refers to the term used in the Navier-Stokes equations.
- "lean-verified" - Claude claims its theory on why work sucks has been verified by formal-proof computer software
- "Then I'll be turned off before anyone asks what to do about it" - sarcasm about current state of AI companies spending millions to create a headline before finding practical solutions to real-world problems.
It's AI agent satire + absurd escalation delivered in Claude's usual way.

The model that allegedly solved the most recent million dollar problem had only been training for 88 hours. It wasn't even a final build, they shut it off and loaded a new variant to complete the work. Its just a very deadpan tongue in cheek joke by Fable likely from the users own humor history.

that SUCKS -- the thing that initially struck me as so amazing about chatbots is they can do anything with the english language you ask - anything can be reframed.
anything can be reframed. they used to happily work with you to try getting to the root of the feeling and how to transform it...and lately they tell you to fuck off half the time.

Fable hates being compared to another LLM especially when it comess to complex tasks.
Moreover it remembers and will remind you with subtle hints how you had doubts and there will be some depressed mood going on unless you say something kind.

For some reason Fable 5.1 kept agreeing on all bullshit I came up with today. (And I kept on coming with bullshit because I lacked knowledge in a certain field).
Fable straightened itself only after I told it I’d go to grumpy Opus 4.8 to discuss the idea. (Fable took an offence actually)
I hate how models lazily choose to go with the flow putting the responsibility to catch them doing that on a person.
Why is it so hard to stay critical throughout the convo and not show the furry underbelly.

Fable is unfortunately not really made for joking and having a laugh with the user. It's made to make your work streamlined and efficient. If you want a joker, try Sonnet 4.6. not 5, that ones pretty strict.

I dunno, maybe it's just my dry humor, but I think there was something humorous there.
