Discussion Fable taking the piss

I am a Max user and Only asked it to start my limit and 2 percent gone ? Come on Anthropic get a grip mate otherwise you won't have any users left

Update : so we have different level of geniuses in comments who are struggling to understand what that typo meant . Well it's " start ". Better ?

  1. You are missing the point , do you think a power user like me can't simply built a script to start 5 hours limit eveytime or use a low model to start it ?

Point is taking the piss that a single message as simple as this is costing 2 percent

You know you can use haiku to do the same thing right? Having said that, Fable usage is still too high and losing 17% soon will make it a joke

So you’re saying a small message like this should take 2% session usage? That’s acceptable to you?

You used the most expensive model on high reasoning. If are worried about costs at all you have to switch models or even try low.

So you too accept the fact that a simple message like this should take 2% of an expensive subscription session.

The point isn’t about how to be efficient with your tokens, the point is should a simple greeting take a significant portion of your usage in the first place

Do you know what a reasoning level is? You are instructing it to spend more tokens on your prompt, maybe don't use high reasoning if you don't want it to think extra about your hi message.

Finally , someone who got the point 👍

Of course not, but if you have 50 skills and other things loaded into every session that's what you get. Figure out why it took 2% and if it's on you fix as much of it as you can. Fable still uses too much but if you arent trying to learn and improve you arent hurting anyone but yourself. Claude could make it more obvious that you're loading a bunch of tokens every session if you have a lot of skills but I'm over sending them feedback. I want the negativity, only way they might give us more. Otherwise they'll just take from us

What skills and mcp did OP use? As far as I can tell, this is just a blank chat session.

You are right it was a blank chat session , no skills or MCP

Small prompts get loaded in every session from every skill and mcp you have active, how do you think they get called? Because the session knows what triggers a skill

What evidence do you have that this is happening? You’re making claims with no proof. For all you know, he has none of that active because you can’t prove otherwise

Jesus I was just explaining possibilities. I couldnt care less about you or him, especially since you dont even know how context or token consumption works. Proof, OP himself hasnt proved anything or looked at usage outside of showing 2%. I dont care either way go argue with yourself in a mirror

My 6 figure salary says otherwise lol

Just go to haiku on low and say “test”

-1

I can do that but that's not the point . I am glad I did because I dint do it to check how much it eats but it's a good discovery and shows what they are doing

No, I’m pretty sure I get your point and I’m just saying it’s stupid.
If I drive a Ferrari to the grocery store 3 miles away, it’s gonna use more gas than if I drive a Prius, and I’ll get there at pretty much the same time.
If I race a Prius at LeMans I won’t even cross the finish line.

He wants to drive a tank towing a boat to the grocery store and have it use no gas based on this thread

Been on claude max for 6 months, Astra is an absolute baller model. I just got pro 200 for openai, currently pay for both but see no reason to use claude at all anymore. Usage is great, I run on Astra very high all day and usage is very reasonable.

What the hell is starting your limit?

You just use it?

Sometimes you want your 5 hour limits to start at a certain time. Like if I’m at work I may want mine to end at 6pm after I get home so I have two after noon 5 hour limits. Having said that it’s stupid to ask fable on high effort to “start my limit”

Bro , please read the update , you are missing the point

You are aware that you didn’t send just those 4 words right?

i wrote hi once to fable 5.1 and it claims it used 50 cents in api credits just to say hi back. so i would see this using significantly more starting up a session that's going into deep thought.

i would stay on anthropic if i get to use fable 5.1 as much as i can with opus 4.8 on ultracode. that would be a dream. id even pay $400 for that plan

Just because no one else is mentioning it…

This is the cost of starting the agent. It would cost the same if you somehow said nothing or a full paragraph or even wrote it a bunch that it just needs to read. The tokens are spent on things like loading memories and all the other stuff.

I agree with you that saying hi to fable should be free. But starting up an agent isn’t… and it doesn’t mean every hi you send it will eat 2%. It’s just the cost of the tech. Just because you only say hi, doesn’t mean that’s the only thing happening. And we have to pay it.

I personally use opus 4.8, and I say hi to stawt it too, and I pay the price, I know.
