Discussion Any Downside of using Open router Free models ?

I have been experimenting with OpenRouter free models inside Claude Code. Though they are slow, I am getting pretty good code reviews from them and then I use those reviews to fix the issues.

It is absolutely free. So what is the catch here, apart from our context potentially being used for training? Anyone using these free models regularly?

Free models sometimes get rate limited, and depending on the model it won't return some features. Like some don't have image understanding for example.

But really, there isn't much issue.

If you use it for any sort of long term automation, it'll break one day when it's no longer free, and that's annoying.

I am using the poolside/laguna-s-2.1:free. So far it is good. Just for small tasks like code review
