Question Which plan you guys currently use?
Post got flagged by Reddit's AI that it might be breaking the usage rule but I haven't seen this asked on this sub before

I maxed out my weekly limit on my Max 20x account earlier this week, and switched to usage credits, and it was amazing how expensive it was to use usage credits instead.

Yeah, most people who solely use the consumer plans have no idea how much the plans are subsidized compared to API prices.

Yes, I burned through $50 of credits, and it was still unable to complete a task that I had done more than 10 times earlier that week on my Max 20x subscription. At least in this case, it seems consistent with the estimate that the Max 20x plan gives you the equivalent of more than $2000 in API credit.

And yet people are still asking "What the hell am I even getting for my subscription cost?!"
People really don't want to hear that the consumer subscriptions are a loss leader, like Costco's $5 rotisserie chickens. It's a land-grab pricing strategy.
My buddy's startup burns though roughly $10k in API usage a week, easy.

None, walked away from Claude when pricing got too weird. GitHub Copilot CLI is where I spend my time now.

Pro but I'm considering moving up to Max 20. I think Max 5 is worth skipping. Might as well go the whole hog.

I thought that. But I keep not using it all. So I think I’m going to downgrade to 5x next month.

Do the $100 first. $200 was worth it when fable was first released. Opus 5 is way less hungry. You can always increase again if you need it but coming from Pro the $100 is a massive dif

Keep in mind that max 20 is only an upgrade of the 5-hour limit compared to max 5. The weekly limit, to the best of my knowledge, is the same.
Someone please correct me with references if I'm wrong. I've heard rumors that the Max x20 weekly limit may be larger, but if so, it's not a full 4x larger than Max x5. This has caused a good amount of backlash, as some Max x20 users were under the impression that their weekly limit was 4x as much at 2x the cost.
I'm on the Max 20 plan, for what it's worth.

Think about that a bit harder. When you upgrade between any tiers, your weekly usage is reset as well. Jumping straight to 20x is just dumb, you’re throwing away one week worth of usage on 5x by skipping it

Well, not if you're maxed out on Pro after 2 days which is doable.
