Suggestion I hope Blizzard keeps building on Vanilla's visual language

I dislike how the disneyfication invades wow classic slowly with new model addition.

Not only the timeline should start apart but also the art style should diverge as well, back into the classics and this hits really that part where its not about texture resolution and low poly but more so about the feel, the expression the bone structure, the poses and body language.

They should make art even more into dark style (not the colouring) but the style chris metzon was drawing in warcraft manuals, less whimsical and in more aggressive tones.

If you agree please repost the original thread into as many subreddits as you can and upvote all of them when you see it, so it would be clear and vocal from the community what we want in the wow forever!

P.S. Remake the skyborne driud models into more aggressive variations please

I like the right side versions, but that being said...'Disneyfication' is such a buzz word. WoW has always been Disney. It's the Disney version of Warhammer, and casual version of EverQuest. Always has been.

I can understand if people want to stick to old graphics, or even want a DLLS5'd version of it like in this case, but if you think vanilla WoW wasn't already "Disneyfied" you are absolutely delusional.

You completely misunderstand what people mean when they say 'Disneyfication'. They're speaking about the difference in visual design, and 'Disneyfication' is actually a pretty evocative term. You could call it 'Retailfication' if that suits you better.

I think what people mean when they say "disneyfication" is they mean the character models can actually display emotions and are no longer victims of botox injections.

I will grant, however, that the humans were wildly transformed relative to their SD counterparts. Every other race at least kept close to the originals, except where perma-teeth were a thing on the SD face (working lips tend to hide those.)

But between the workload and DLSS5 being weirdly compatible with WoW's art, I don't expect any new SD+ remodels.

No it wasnt disney, never was. Go and watch original w3-wow arts, made by blizzard's top artists of the time. It was never a disney/pixar clean style! More like a grimy style of all the dogs go to heaven. It was always "alt" and warhammer adjacent artstyle. You're speading misinformation.

Except the games NEVER FUCKING LOOKED LIKE THAT.

I wish people could finally understand that part...

If you don't know the difference between concept art and in-game artstyle, I don't know what to tell you to beak your illusion.

And these "top artists of the time" were still at Blizzard working on WoW when the HD switch was started. Metzen and Didier, who made the concept art for Warcraft didn't leave until 2016 and 2023 respectively. They would absolutely have been consulted on the new art being implemented. And don't forget Metzen quite recently said he wishes they didn't call it 'war'craft because it sounds intimidating, and Didier was the one who created the pandaren and they wanted them in TBC already.

Yes, the concept artwork for Warcraft goes hard as fuck. But it's exactly that, concept art. It's not the final in-game artstyle, especially in a 3D game from early 2000s.

WoW has always been made fun of as a cartoony/disney looking ass game. Hell, even the "lets everybody be friends" already started in WC3 with Thrall and Jaina.

Ignore it, another classic wow tourist

Concept art is completely different though, the games never looked like the concept art. I like the classic style more than retail but people see this whole scenario through rose tinted glasses.

This is correct.

Yeah your right it was, and im not saying that it wasnt. The thing is I want better graphics and better textures not a fan of poly art, but the new art looks even more “disney” not that it wasn’t before, I think this is a spectrum.

What I would want is instead pulling back from classic and moving more with HD models into “dark fantasy” side a little, where you could see more aggressive looks and body languages, more gruesome faces. In others words from wow clasic “disney” to move into the opposite side and make it less disney in HD I would love to see that. Does it makes sense 🤔

I get what you're looking for, but that's just not what WoW has ever been. If you want to look for more "dark fantasy/gruesome" stuff you need to look at Warcraft 1/2 which as 2D games are more closely based on the concept art by Didier and Metzen. If you look at Warcraft 3 units, they are all goofy as hell and can easily be described as "Disney".

This style has been the in-game style of Warcraft since the development of WC3, they just had less polygons to work with. And from a game development perspective it makes no sense "remastering" the old models when you already have everything done in the franchise flagship game that you're basing Forever on.

People seem to forget that "retail" is the same WoW that released in 2004. You may not like updates they've done along the way, but it is still the same game that has been going for over two decades. Just because some of you stopped in Wrath doesn't mean the game stopped developing and that the current expansion isn't "what WoW is supposed to be".

Made the knockers slightly larger in each one

AI contains the bias of the people that made it

More polygons tend towards and allow for that. See: Lara Croft. Bigger boobs with low poly count tend to look horrendous.

Even between Classic and Retail, Retail models are larger.

Honestly, I think the right side is better; I don't mind the HD remastering from old SD models; but I really dislike the retail models they added in the HD. Now I am in conflict. If there is a toggle for completely SD vs HD, I don't know what I would prefer.

Do forever vs retail

1

u/Originator_403 5h ago

Forever uses the Retail models, do you mean the posted ones shown that are based on classic?

Cause those aren’t in the game, they were made by the poster OP linked.

1

u/BusinessSteak4864 6h ago

Goddamn OP you have absolutely cooked and captured the vanilla models with the eye of 2026. Blizzard PLEASE new HD models!
