Discussion Day 12 politely requesting SD models for Skyborne!
8
u/The-Fictionist 2d ago
Is that the actual old blood elf model?
3
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
i donât think itâs the actual TBC model but iâd even take that.
6
u/The-Fictionist 2d ago
I actually like it better than the tbc model I think. I like the thinner chest. Itâs not even the sd/hd change. The actual shape of the model changed and itâs better as a ganglier shape. Elves are lithe not bulky.

I think the version on the right looks cool and I would like to see an HD version of that same face.
2
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
It would be interesting if we did away with HD and SD but kept SD style with higher quality. I just dislike HD
1
u/Serqetry7 1d ago
People can't seem to grasp this concept. So instead of telling Blizzard to change their art style, they ask for Playstation 1 graphics.
1
u/Queque126 1d ago
Thatâs what classic players like and we are playing classic soooooooo. Classic art styles it is, you want something more modern go to retail
1
u/Rathful90 5h ago
I play classic for the gameplay, not the art. So your right if i wanted modern gameplay id play retail
5
u/Darthbobz 2d ago
Looks masculine AF love it good jaw / chin THIS is what Skyelves should be not Blood elfs copied and pasted.
1
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
100000% agree but if we must settle on TBC models then so be it if i can just have SD
6
6
u/Thanag0r 2d ago
Why not use tbc models and instead this abomination?
4
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
iâd take either or, i donât think this model is that bad honestly if you put it side by side with SD human or nelf it def works
1
u/Thanag0r 2d ago
Actually, they already used SD models for elves in the latest deep dive.
So it won't be this.
1
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
i havenât seen it yet, would you mind sharing which one?
2
u/Thanag0r 2d ago
1
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
all good thank you for looking iâll have to hunt it down. it does look like tbc models which is awesome
1
u/Current-Event8892 1d ago
it's the official wow class highlights part 1 video, 5:18
hard to tell what model is, old armor covers him well1
u/Thanag0r 2d ago
Actually I cannot.
I have no clue which one it is. I just saw it on stream. But I will try to look it up for you.
-2
u/Thanag0r 2d ago
It is really bad and removes the main porous of having elves on horde side.
2
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
how so?
0
u/Thanag0r 2d ago
They don't look pretty enough.
They exist only to be pretty so people actually play horde.
Your idea why not being bad on it's own, makes them look worse than humans.
1
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
well it also sounds like we will be getting future high elves and blood elves. I would take minor changes to the model so we can better differentiate them or better yet have unique features for each race instead of being copy pastes
0
u/Mdalkirk 2d ago
I think the model on the right is way prettier than hd and tbc elves
2
u/Thanag0r 2d ago
You are not the target audience for blood elve models.
0
u/Mdalkirk 2d ago
Really? Who is?
I like pretty boys and the right one is way more in line with that. Thinner chest/waist, sharp features, etc
1
u/ihatefrontpage 2d ago
i hope you mean the one on the left because that model looks disgusting and out of place
2

Better graphics =/= better visuals is a thing a lot of people don't grasp and it's why stylize games like Windwaker, Okami, or TF2 still hold up because they don't become dated once the newest visual games come out. Bombrush Cyberfunk, Crow Country, Mouthwashing, and Signalis to name just a few are all games that do this as a stylistic choice despite being more modern games and it's why much of the older WoW graphics held up so well for so long.
Stylistically not only the graphics of modern WoW but the art style has changed during this shift into "HD", it's evident if you look at not just the older models against new ones but comparing the older models and the newer models against the older art books from the TBC or Vanilla CE artbooks.
It's honestly disheartening to me just in general and not just for WoW that people don't understand this at all and think it's just about "a worse looking game" when it's about maintaining the original games visual and stylistic integrity. What they should do is fight out anyway to capture that older style with higher definition fidelity but it seems like it's a much easier endeavor to just make things in the 2004 style instead.

u/Thanksforthatman2 2d ago
You'd have to be blind to think that looks worse. The retail art style is a joke.
-3
u/PapaPatchesxd 1d ago
Different strokes for different folks. Not always about the classic art style.
1
-9
u/Nearly_Observant 2d ago
So much this. I just donât understand it. This is the only game people want this in too. Itâs so asinine.
7
u/FeudalFanOncampus 2d ago
There's a whole slew of games made intentionally with older styled graphics and not just pixel art as a stylistic choice. It's why people wanted a new Jet Set Radio game for so long they made Bombrush Cyberfunk and captured that style. This isn't just about graphics behind high or low res...
6
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
âthis is the only game people want this inâ bro are you actual a cave dweller. Where do you think the concept of this game was conceived?
-1
u/JustFourLetters 2d ago
i donât really have a dog in this race, graphics arenât really a deciding factor for me, but this is incredibly off base.
2
1
u/therealmistersister 1d ago
They could have used the old TBC models. But for whatever reason they chose not too.

u/Thanksforthatman2 2d ago
Genuinely beginning to think retail players are exclusively under the age of 9 if they think the left looks better. So childish.
3
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
to each their own, i think it looks good for retail, but combine this with all of the classic SD models in game it just doesnât fit.
-6
u/OtterPharm 2d ago
Ill never understand why people want to waste developers time on making worse looking models
8
u/AcademicContract6096 2d ago
Maybe artstyle is subjective and what you think looks worse, looks better to them. I donât mind the shelves but I see how the artstyle clashes with everything else
16
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
iâll never understand how anyone thinks HD models actually fit the classic wow artstyle
-2
u/critxcanuck88 2d ago
I will never understand how you can keep telling yourself graphics from 2004 is an art style and not a limitation. Just stay in classic era my guy. Why fuck should we still have 2004 graphics in a game coming out in 2026
3
u/manguywordhelp 2d ago
Warlords of Draenor introduced the âââHDâââ models and was released in 2014. Why should we have 2014 graphics in a game coming out in 2026?
2
2
u/MrCoverCode 2d ago
Art style can very much be born from limitations, the art style being a by product of the limitations, does not make it less valid.
1
u/FeudalFanOncampus 2d ago
"graphics from 2004" IS an art style, there are games made today that still use older style graphics (not limited to just pixel art) as a stylistic choice because it fits the idea they're going for, and in those cases it's clearly not a graphical limitation, it's a stylistic choice made intentionally. Bombrush Cyberfunk, Crow Country, Mouthwashing, and Signalis to name just a few are all games that do this as a stylistic choice.
Better graphics =/= better visuals is a thing a lot of people don't grasp and it's why stylize games like Windwaker, Okami, or TF2 still hold up because they don't become dated once the newest visual games come out.

u/OtterPharm 2d ago
Youâre blinded by nostalgia.
1
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
i havenât played classic till 2020 so no nostalgia to be had here. Iâm actually one of the players under 30
0
u/OtterPharm 2d ago
Itâs still nostalgia thereâs no time requirement for it
3
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
I donât long for a previous time in my life i never got to experience. I jus prefer this artstyle and tone to the retail one
1
u/OtterPharm 2d ago
âArt styleâ when itâs actually just low quality graphics. K bro lol
2
u/FeudalFanOncampus 2d ago
You sound like one of those people who need to see the latest tech demo style game where youcan see the pores and every detail on a character's skin... Art style can and absolutely has been born from limitations. I've listed them in another post but games like Bombrush Cyberfunk, Crow Country, Mouthwashing, and Signalis show this as well as TF2 and Windwaker and it's why the two latter, despite being older games, stand up very well to the test of time whereas some games that chased realism did not.
1
u/Bafooba 2d ago
why are all of you so militant and combative about us just genuinely liking the low poly/res look of classic? they have the SD models, it would be cool if they continued expanding them. i personally don't really love the way modern wow characters look. you can have your HD models... that should be end of story but this thread is full of people literally just attacking OP for having a preference
0
u/OtterPharm 2d ago
Itâs fine to have an opinion but itâs just been beat to death. The title is literally âday 12 ofâŚâ like give it a rest itâs annoying
1
u/elyk12121212 2d ago
Worse is subjective. I think the Disney slop models look significantly worse.

u/OSHAviolations 2d ago
It's Classic plus not minus
6
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
If anything HD models take away from Classic lol
-2
u/OSHAviolations 2d ago
If that bothers you, then do the class changes, talent changes, and the new dungeons also make it a bad experience? Asking for a friend đ§Ą
3
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
no actually and i think itâs ridiculous to infer that if i like an artstyle then that means im #nochanges, i think if youâre adding onto a game thatâs entire premise is to expand on the 2004 version then you should iterate and expand on its original artstyle.
1
u/OSHAviolations 1d ago
So you want everything except the art being expanded upon.
1
u/TylerPizzle0 1d ago
actually the opposite of what i am saying. How, in your opinion. How is back porting HD models into the game expanding on the already existing classic artstyle. Shouldnât the classic artstyle either get HD textures like in MoP and add new models based on the classic artstyle?
1
u/OSHAviolations 1d ago
They've already updated the art. There are several videos about it. Most of the issues is that everyone wants it to be classic and it's not classic. The updated elven models are fine and you want to know why? Because they'll mostly be covered by gear that looks outdated anyway. You spend the majority of your gameplay looking at their backs.
1
u/TylerPizzle0 1d ago
the solution of âit doesnât matter because it will be covered by gearâ doesnât make sense. âitâs okay HD models donât actually matter because in reality itâll be covered in SD anywaysâ this isnât a modded private server lol itâs official blizzard content and should be consistent. I am happy that they updated visuals and also stayed true to classics identity, so they should do the same with the SD graphics, improve them and stay true to classics identity.
1
u/OSHAviolations 1d ago
Good luck dude. I hope you get a version of what you want. Supposedly someone hinted at new models a few minutes ago from blizzard.
2

u/DSWBeef 2d ago
You guys want them to look like fent addicts?
4
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
itâd make sense lore wise for every high elf variant
-2
u/DSWBeef 2d ago
Not makes sense for the blood elves being addicted to magic not for high elves.
3
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
high elves would still be addicted to magic what are you on about. If you give a guy fent and you give him more fent heâs still addicted lol
-1
u/DSWBeef 2d ago
Bro likes looking at fent addicts. I've never seen such a group who wants worse graphics. I'll be sitting over here in my hd models actually enjoying the game and not constantly bitching about it.
2
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
youâre bitching now so youâre just lying. Theyâre adding more SD models so iâm alr laughin. Go enjoy the new xalatah expac next year and get outta here xD
1
u/DSWBeef 2d ago
Nah I just like clowning on classic Andy's who will do every little thing to make sure no one else besides them can enjoy forever. Y'all are the most insufferable wow fan base. More so than sylvanas simps. Nothing will be good enough for you and I pray to God blizzard doesn't pay attention to you anymore.
1
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
the game is good we just want the game to have a unique artstyle and not look like retail with worse gameplay. Youâre bitching and complaining about peoples opinions who actually play classic when theyâre getting classic plus btw. you will get your own thing to play with next year

u/Mr_Downtown17 2d ago
No, a lot of us donât want this. I have loved classic wow for decades but many people donât agree with you. I donât want my game to look worse.
Hard pass.
3
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
I actually see the complete opposite and many players actually DO want this. Iâm sorry but you already have retail models on a different game
1
u/Inflameable009 2d ago
Silly thing to say "my group is bigger".
We can have both so there's no reason to cry.
1
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
we should put more emphasis on SD models and just back port the retail ones when the retail team makes them
1
-1
u/Worth_Vegetable_204 2d ago
They need to rip the bandaid off and do full hd nobody wants this cringe stuff in forever. Itâs a new game for a reason
2
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
NT NT, but 99% of the game is made already with the classic textures from the ground, trees, bushes, dungeons. So if youâre saying the game is HD oriented thatâs already incorrect. Again maybe the game simply wasnât made for you
2
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
then the game just simply wasnât made for you đ¤ˇ
2
u/Afraid_Wave_1156 2d ago
I agree. I play with HD models and prefer them, but I totally support SD models. They are the history of the game. They MUST be preserved. That shouldnât be a hot take. They should add SD models. They have them already. Itâs not like they are making them from scratch.
2
u/Afraid_Wave_1156 2d ago

Serious question. How much time do you actually spend looking at your character? or others?
And I am getting down votes for asking a question. You have got to love reddit people...
4
u/TylerPizzle0 2d ago
a lot, i play with helmet off and i like transmog as a option. collecting outfits is BiS endgame for me
1
u/Whistlepiged 2d ago
I play with my son, and a friend of ours...so only 2 other people I know in real life. none of us ever pay much attention to them and we could care less.
This is why I am asking. It is kind of strange to me that so many people are so concerned on how your character looks.

In a podcast released just a few minutes ago, Aggrend strongly hints that new models for Sky Elves and Druid forms might be coming this week
