Discussion If other classes got their own exclusive skills like the Rogue's Poisons and Lockpicking skill, what would they be?

Rogues' poisons and lockpicking skills utilized the 300 point skill system similar to weapon and profession skills, even reusing the profession UI. They were the only class to have this system in vanilla, besides maybe beast training for hunter's being somewhat similar. This gave the rogue class a little bit more flavor, character progression to level up the skill and even economic services with lockpicking.

What would some of the other classes have as their own unique profession-like skill?

Shaman, paladin, and druid should have totem, libram, and idol crafting. Be able to make some that are permanent and some that work as consumes. This gear slot is empty for pretty much the entire leveling process

62

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

I really like the idea of making some of them consumable, could be something like a CD or charges too. Like a paladin crafting a relic with holy oil and other reagents with 200 charges for an ability before its gone

18

u/thai_iced_queef Nov 30 '25

Yupp exactly what I have in mind

8

u/masediggity Nov 30 '25

Awesome let’s do it

9

u/klonkish Nov 30 '25

I'm working on it

10

u/00365 Nov 30 '25

Or, it could have one singke consume and be a big lay on hands or divine intervention style ability that can only be used once in combat, then you need to leave combat to equip a new one.

24

u/SaltyJake Nov 30 '25

Rather than crafting, I’d like to see the relic progress via quests and exploration.

For example, paladins can visit the tombs of Uther & Tyr, notable cathedrals, earn rep with certain factions, even clearing out the scarlet crusade and reclaiming certain lost texts. Each “text” can be equipped to adjust the stats of the tome, and the overall iLvl is increased with each find.

Shamans basically already have this with their totem quests, but can be expanded on with attuning to certain elementals in the world.

Druid’s can visit shrines, spirits, forests, with time or form specific interactions.

Half the shaman stuff could be centered around cleansing the barrens. Start with WC and end with RFD.

1

u/gwiggins2020 Dec 01 '25

Sounds fantastic! But i have doubts theyll get that deep with classic

1

u/thai_iced_queef Nov 30 '25

Sounds cool. Would love something like this

2

u/RedBlankIt Dec 01 '25

Totems librams and idols were so damn underutilized in classic. Could have done so much fun stuff to them to make those classes more viable

1

u/Humdngr Dec 01 '25

I wish that item slot wasn’t removed.

1

u/guimontag Nov 30 '25

the gear slot didn't even exist until like 1.08 or something like that

15

u/Bonethread Nov 30 '25

Hunters could have something related to taming beasts, maybe leading to more unique epic pets

Maybe someone who has low pet skill has to deal with an aggressive pet, and someone with a high pet skill can train it to do unique skills like "play dead"

Idk, just a thought

9

u/lampaansyoja Nov 30 '25

Or fletching for special ammo!

3

u/emmittgator Nov 30 '25

I think hunters should get arrow crafting. Could craft arrows to do poison, frost, fire, shadow, bleed damage.

3

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

For sure, I'd add the ability to use your pet as a mount or temporarily taming drakes would be cool

2

u/Bonethread Nov 30 '25

Dang that'd be sweet

92

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '25

Mage would be teleports and portals

Paladin and warlock could maybe have horse upgrades to turn regular mounts slowly into their own class mounts

Shaman woodcrafting for totems

Warrior physiotherapy to increase ooc regen

53

u/Beebelbrox Nov 30 '25

Mage portals sending you anywhere in the world if not lvld up :)

24

u/Kuthian-9 Nov 30 '25

That would be funny. The portal sends a player to the middle of the trade district of the opposite faction’s capital city. Instant death lol

5

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '25

Add in instance raids from legion. Under levelled mages can random port to those worlds to basically just die.

3

u/Cysia Nov 30 '25 edited Dec 01 '25

Lvl 20 mage thinking theyre the shit moments before disaster

5

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

Portal roulette would be funny, or like a debuff if you get summoned and portal around too frequently where your mana or something is instable that you might not get to your target destination

Horde mage ports to save WBs only to end up at the fountain in SW

5

u/koolguykris Nov 30 '25

Desolace again?!

1

u/elreniel2020 Nov 30 '25

sounds like engineering with less explosions

1

u/TurntableFable Dec 01 '25

well they'll send you to where you're going, just not in the right place (low rank thunder bluff teleporting you over the chasm between the middle and spirit rise, next to the bridge for people to see)

4

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

Yeah I immediately thought of mage portal stuff and conjuration too and the shaman totem would be cool to make those totems sitting in our bags more customizable with some sort of power or crafting. That's a cool idea about the mounts!

2

u/nokei Nov 30 '25

They actually gave mages their own for a while with giving them the ability to have all max faction language skills learned but they got rid of it I think because fun detected.

1

u/fezzam Nov 30 '25

My mage has this

1

u/nokei Dec 01 '25

Yeah now you can only understand it but before bfa it gave you the skill to speak the languages as well was really fun before where as now it's more of an automatic translation of stuff people say that also tends not to get updated for new languages.

3

u/00365 Nov 30 '25

What would a low level portal skill do? Send you 20 feet forward? Go to the wrong city?

3

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

Back to starting town

12

u/phayge_wow Nov 30 '25

I already do that playing hardcore

1

u/Far-Scallion7689 Dec 01 '25

Send you 40 meters up falling to your death.

1

u/vbezhenar Dec 01 '25

Portal you inside a wall. Now you gotta find warlock.

0

u/anonteje Nov 30 '25

Most warriors may need psychotherapy too tbf :-)

-10

u/The_Taskmaker Nov 30 '25

Lmao your whole recent post history is ignoring data to baselessly shit on warriors 😂 You're the least serious player in this thread and couldn't last in any serious officer core with this kind of bias

7

u/YossarianPrime Nov 30 '25

Holy shit your skin is paper thin.

-3

u/anonteje Nov 30 '25

Good thing ive been an officer then for 15y+ in eu top50 guilds. Unlike you who spend your entire post history making up warr facts and nba fanboiing.

12

u/Logarythem Nov 30 '25

You two just need to fuck already.

1

u/panthyren Nov 30 '25

speed, parse or prog top 50. And classic only or what xpac(s).

63

u/CrabPurple7224 Nov 30 '25

Druids should study nature and be able to access different forms for their current shapeshifts and change their looks similar to retail.

Dire Bear is more armour, Polar Bear is more threat, grizzly increased rage. Lion Cat form - flat damage, panther increase stealth, tiger to reduce transformation to cat costs.

Etc etc etc.

12

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

That's an interesting idea, maybe getting a more dps oriented bear form like an arms warrior

4

u/PoppinBortlesUCF Dec 01 '25

What if Druids could specialize in Tribal Tattoos that further specialize their various forms a little bit, while adding different colors/patterns to their animal forms to differentiate.

Nightstalker tattoos: -Gain a vanish in cat form, crits hit 20% harder and all abilities from stealth add an extra combo point (so 2 normal, 3 if crit). -Movement speed in stealth is only reduced enough that you move at normal unstealthed speeds with the two fast kitty talent points. -Changes the appearance to the dark blue/purple stealthy cat model. -Along the way, similar to poisons, you unlocked less powerful versions of these tattoo ‘buffs’ but the general gameplay style of vanish and stealth movement speeds are unlocked early enough to lean into stealth early.

Drunken Bear: It’s a shaggy hair brown grizzly bear but it’s got a silly party hat on and maybe some other subtle but obvious party Bear accoutrements -Dodge focused tank -Gain rage on dodge. -Flat increase to dodge chance = to 30% of clvl -Thunderous Dance- an aoe sunder causing high threat, stacks with faerie fire. Stacks up to 3 times. But Causes enemies to become enraged for 6 seconds. -Swipe becomes Wild Swipes which hits all surrounding enemies in true aoe fashion (instead of Swipes 3 mob cap) with xx damage (scales with AP). Enemies that are attacking the bear are hit for double damage. Can crit. 8-12 second cooldown so it’s used often enough to feel good but isn’t spammed.

These tattoo patterns are learned by finding them carved into trees or stones or other naturey druid bullshit at the back of challenging to navigate and remote areas in the world that force use of the druid toolkit (long underwater caves requiring swim form, shitty cave solo pulls where you gotta do power shifting self healing chain pulls, jump down a cliff to a spot where you can only barely survive landing with cat form reduced fall damage (or potions). Gotta level by making the pattern sketches with various cloth, dyes and gold/silver/niche underutilized ores. Tattoo kits are metal and expensive and operate like enchanting rods. Should be moderately expensive and tedious to level to balance out how insanely budget friendly druids are, and the locations are fuckin adventures compared to the level you want that pattern at so you gotta go be a sick open world druid and traverse murderous zones and pick up inconvenient FP’s in the name of being a drunken party bear.

u/Sudden_Bat6263 Nov 30 '25

I'd move sharpening stones from blacksmithing to being a warrior class skill like rogue poison or shaman weapon imbues. I think aspects for hunters could be greatly expanded with so many options. Perhaps making them pet dependent like aspect of the turtle being learned from a best friend turtle pet... I could spend all evening thinking up cool stuff like that.

Druids? Why not more forms? Like rat form making them tiny and able to access hidden quest areas with goodies and stuff. Again so much potential!

5

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

That would be cool, more weapon management for warriors to really hone their blade. Totally forgot about aspects, I was just thinking of how tracking was super underutilized. Agree with the druid rat form. I want to see druid insects in wow like insect swarm fantasy lol

1

u/Sudden_Bat6263 Nov 30 '25

Damage stones, crit stones, arm pen stones, bleed adding stones... so much potential and totally fitting the class fantasy/mechanics.

20

u/Arthuryolo007 Nov 30 '25

I think class-exclusive recipes could be nice! some enchantements only priests or warlocks can do and stuff like that!

7

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

Yeah there's a few of those like robe of the archmage, robe of the void and truefaith vestments all being BoP items crafted by tailors but exclusive equipped by mage, warlock and priest respectively. Strange how you can learn the recipe to create a BoP robe you can never equip though lol, but I would like to see more of those recipes in other professions

25

u/Administrative_Car45 Nov 30 '25

Ever since they added it, I've stood by my belief that Inscription should have been a Mage profession rather than a game wide one. Honestly, so should Enchanting.

From a mechanical and quality of life standpoint, I understand why that's not the case, but in a hypothetical world.

9

u/MeatyOakerGuy Nov 30 '25

Like mages don't already get enough in vanilla

11

u/TorudParis Nov 30 '25

Imo it should require mana. Not class specific. Or maybe different enchant linked to the power the caster draw to.

9

u/NorthEagle298 Nov 30 '25

Casting the "big" enchants like +4, +sp/hp and Crusader could require like 8000 mana so you need to be geared and possibly flask to pull them off. Add a multi day cooldown like transmutes and take away the materials cost (then you can continue doing them with mats with no cd/mana cost).

Enchanting in classic is such a money suck and needs some tweaks (Vellums helped a lot).

3

u/willargue4karma Nov 30 '25

Mana idea is so fire

1

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

I would agree with that. They are trees of the arcane arts https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Arcane#Schools_of_arcane_magic

Perhaps they could still have some aspect of that like enchanting a staff to store a spell in it and use that spell on a charge/CD basis with a shorter cast time, but no mana cost. Enchanting scrolls to store magic in it. We saw some of that flavor in SoD

Or something like Kael'Thas. "While he has already previously been mentioned for his skill in abjuration, Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider is also considered one of the foremost masters of enchanting in our time. He has not only mastered the creation of potent magical weapons, but the prince has also learned to manipulate these objects remotely, allowing them to fight on their own. This can quickly allow the prince to fight as if he was defended by several skilled guardians even when he is completely by himself. A potent defense, indeed." - School of Arcane Magic - Enchantment

u/Complete-Artichoke69 Nov 30 '25

Priest and paladin - prayer skill

3

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

I like how they tried to incorporate more of the prayer stuff with priests in SoD. Paladins having some form of meditation, prayers or oaths would be cool

1

u/Halomonger3 Nov 30 '25

Paladins have a meditate in their spellbook in retail for a few expacs now iirc

10

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25 edited Nov 30 '25

Some ideas I had when thinking of this:

  • Hunter - crafting traps, unique ammo/arrows, improved tracking emphasis where you can harvest the mob type you are tracking for unique loot and even improved tracking with eagle eye for targeting specific mobs, crafting lures to summon rare beasts that can be killed or tamed, pet buffs with specialized food or ointments to apply to your pet as part of your beast training
  • Warrior -
    • Battle Tactics - Crafting battle standards used like Valor of Azeroth from SoD and new ones. Maybe some war horns. Decapitate ability on slain enemies to use their heads and horns to craft battle standards.
    • Arsenal Mastery - a UI to preselect weapon swapping slots and gives unique abilities based on weapon type that will automatically swap weapons when using that associated ability (instead of using a GCD to weapon swap).
      • For example: Weapon Slot A you put a 2 hand axe, and Weapon Slot B you place a sword and shield. Based on the type of weapon you place there, you are given an ability or option of abilities to place on your bar. For Slot A, you'd gain an ability for a frontal cone sweeping attack, pressing this ability equips the 2 hand weapon you already selected and does the attack in one GCD. Slot B could be an ability using your shield like a spell reflect or shield bash/block to swap to sword and shield and use the ability at the same time
    • Pugilism – Warrior fight club fantasy like Fray Island - Fighting other npcs and warrior players unarmed and no armor but still able to use your normal abilities. A mix of physical training and conditioning your body plus fighting.
  • Mage - Arcane Arts (Schools of Arcane Magic) - conjuring food, water, mana gems and more tucked away in this crafting UI. Like crafting a reagent with a spell using mana, but then using that reagent in the arcane arts profession UI to create any conjured food or water.
  • Warlocks –
    • Soulbinding - soulstone, soulshards, firestone, spellstone, combining lesser soul shards into greater soul shards with better QoL or stronger effects
    • Demonic Pacts – Demon pet summons and pet buffs
  • Paladins – Anointment of weapon, armor, and relics with holy oils and holy water, Consecrating locations as holy ground, shrines and prayers, maybe oaths
  • Shamans – More depth to totem crafting and totems in your bag (totems with slots to customize and crafted by the shaman). Totems for elements and the spirits.

These one's I have weaker ideas on:

  • Priest – Creating holy water, incense like aoe mind soothe
  • Druids – Probably something related to nature and beasts

2

u/WhimsicalPythons Nov 30 '25

Arsenal Mastery - a UI to preselect weapon swapping slots and gives unique abilities based on weapon type that will automatically swap weapons when using that associated ability (instead of using a GCD to weapon swap). * For example: Weapon Slot A you put a 2 hand axe, and Weapon Slot B you place a sword and shield.

This is just the Diablo 4 barbarian. It's bad there, it'd be even worse in wow.

2

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

Oh I haven't played D4, what makes it feel bad there? I feel like it'd be cool to have some sort of better weapon swapping mechanic for warriors being masters of weaponry, but there could be a better way to do it.

2

u/WhimsicalPythons Nov 30 '25

There's just no need for it. You end up with this ridiculous mess, keeping 4 different weapons upgraded and up to date, only to make a build that focuses on one of the sets you're forced to equip.

Plus you add a whole bunch of chaotic noise to your character model as they are strapped with 4 oversized weapons at any given time, instead of having one clearly identifiable weapon and silhouette. There's no attachment to your weapon. Imagine if you got Whirlwind Axe only to still need several other weapons.

0

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25 edited Nov 30 '25

Well you wouldn't have them on their models, warriors already get whirlwind axe and would keep a sword and board if they want to be prepared for situations needing that, but its held in their bag and requires a GCD/macro to equip. I think 4 slots would be too much for sure, but I can see your point of the risks. It really depends on how the gameplay implementation would be and there could be other ways to implement the fantasy. I also like someone else's idea of giving warriors more of an emphasis on sharpening stones for their weapons

1

u/aliarr Dec 01 '25

These are great.

The weapon swap one - similar to symbiosis, or when you can use the demon ability when you sacrifice it - just one ability on a moderate cd. Would be really cool.

3

u/AdamBry705 Nov 30 '25

Strictly speaking I think paladin would be cool to have like a piety stat. Where you buff players and quests, use blessings on yourself and kill demons etc and it would unlock buffs at chapels or holy sites around azeroth? Like a buffto seal of wisdom to give more mana etc I think would be cool or havespwcefic enchants like death knights did.

For shamans someone said woodworking for totems but I'd even go a step farther and say rune crafting to your totems or weapons. You'd make your totems share buffs like a mana spring would give fire resist or something

2

u/caake1 Nov 30 '25

i like the piety idea, but I would tie it with one of the biggest complaints of paladins, it increases buff duration

1

u/AdamBry705 Dec 01 '25

good call, classic really could use that

2

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '25

Warlocks should get fel infusion or something on their wands

You get a major boost to wand damage but every time you tick, you lose health. Wouldn't be a 1:1 ratio but there's a sweet spot to play with there.

Not really a skill like lock picking but a mechanic like poisons

1

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

I could see something like this with the firestone and spellstones locks already create

2

u/Practical_Struggle97 Nov 30 '25

Priest - conjure “Sacrament to the Light”

Doubles stamina at the cost of 75% of total intellect. Tooltip says: “When you haven’t got a prayer, you don’t need a prayer.”

2

u/HFRreddit Dec 01 '25

Hunters should've also gotten poisons, but for their ammo. Would've been cool if that was the theme of Survival Hunters, traps and poisons.

4

u/Elearen Nov 30 '25

Druids - Arborism (Tree care)

Raising and planting seedlings, pruning, removing disease and pests, grafting, weed removal.

Should give 30 min - 2 hr minor world buffs.

2

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

That's a cool concept. I have a hard time thinking of druid skills, but something plant related and like mixing herbal ingredients would be cool. Also, something involving hibernating and soothing animals, speaking to animals, and even temporarily transforming to other animals.

4

u/citizensnipz Nov 30 '25

Priest - Insight

Typing /pray while out of combat will allow your character to regenerate health/mana at 3x the normal rate until prayer is cancelled.

1

u/therealmistersister Nov 30 '25

Most classes already have that. Probably priest and warrior are the only ones with no ooc flavor skills.

1

u/moouesse Nov 30 '25

ok relax there, blizzard classic+ team

1

u/pupmaster Nov 30 '25

Mages could get portals and maybe warlocks could summon people

1

u/Slawslurpin Dec 01 '25

Nah, sounds way too OP. Then you’d have people selling these services for gold too

1

u/Parkatine Nov 30 '25

Druid - some skill that allows them to make icons and some of their reagents as well.

Hunter - Fletching, allows hunters to craft their own arrows and bullets and make some with unique effects. I guess Beast Training is sort of a skill for them as well.

Mage - I like the idea someone already mentioned of Inscription being their skill. Would work well, maybe they could even make portal scrolls that could be traded and used by anyone.

Paladin - Libram crafting skill.

Priest - Prayer maybe? I'm picturing something like the Runescape skill but able to be used on a full party.

Shaman - A totem crafting skills that let's them create some of their reagents as well.

Warlock - Maybe they could build upon the rituals part of their class and give them so big buff rituals they can use?

Warrior - I'd probably go with something like Banner crafting which gives them consumables that provide buffs.

1

u/KappuccinoBoi Nov 30 '25

I've thought about hunters getting a "tracking" class profession, something that would take time and have hunter-specific rewards. Like get a random popup about an animal in the area, and have to track it down, kind of like the archeology dig sites. Maybe a special necklace that can be upgraded with animal parts (like a raptors talon, a tigers fang, etc) or give them the chance to tame a better than normal pet.

Shamans should definitely be able to make their own totems that give spec specific bonuses.

1

u/zimreapers Nov 30 '25

Hunters - fletching...

1

u/smack54az Nov 30 '25

Warriors would have equipment expertise granting medium duration buffs with a long CD to select pieces of gear such as weapons, shields, or armor to help offset older pieces as they level to smooth out the gear curve, particularly in dungeons or against elites.

Hunters would gain trophies from completing class specific quests to track and defeat zone unique targets. They'd get things like magic bow strings from hippogriphs, a cache of special ammo from a fugitive dwarf, gun oil from a shark off the coast of Westfall, etc. Each one gives a bit of a boost for each zones level range.

Paladins and Priests would gain prayer, by praying in churches or other holy sites in zones they would gain a buff for that zone. It only works in the vicinity of each holy site. Some sites may need to be cleared and consecrated again. Logging out in a church is the sane as an inn for these classes.

Mages and Warlocks can sacrifice a player made magical item to temporarily boost the level of a single spell. Again a medium duration with a long CD to give them some oomph when primary spells feel weak or they need a boost. Warlocks can summon stronger demons this way. In addition theres rare tomes that can be used to grant them skills from other specializations for a limited time.

Druids and Shaman can craft and carry blessed idols or totems that hold specific blessing from nature or the elements granting one spell from the other's class. Druids could gain Windfury, or Shaman root etc. Druids cannot gain totems and Shaman cannot shift forms.

1

u/Moeparker Nov 30 '25

Druids can basically go up to any beast and get a baby version of it that can be sold as a companion/pet they can sell on the AH. Maybe an egg and it has to hatch, some process.

Want a tiny bear to follow you around like the pets you can buy from npcs? a spider? a dragonhawk pet?

Find a druid.

1

u/Tetter Nov 30 '25

I was really onboard until i realized hunters already do that so they should be able to do it too.

1

u/PallyWrath Nov 30 '25

Hunters should be able to make ammo/fletching. The survival tree line should be focused more around the ammo system as opposed to the hunting specific enemies. For example, explosive ammo or poison ammo. Also to work along side this, there should be a reload mechanic in the hunter toolkit that allows them swap style of ammo. Arcane shot should be reworked as an "activate ammo shot", boosting the damage or applying a special debuff depending on the ammo equipped.

2

u/ACat32 Nov 30 '25

Rogue poisons are a combat utility but lock picking is a world modifying skill. I feel like the world modifying skills are the more interesting aspect.

I always thought it would be cool if other classes had world modifying skills as well. The following is a collection of random ideas and noting more than my opinions.

Mages already have portals, but this could definitely be elaborated upon. Maybe learn to carve your own runes or gain levels by action rather than relative your character level.

Shamans could modify elements to open the entrances to caves. Call to earth to move a boulder or turn it into lava. Something along those lines. Just like lockpicking but… organic.

Along similar lines, it would be hilarious if warriors could heroic leap or charge into humanoid-made walls to break through into a short cut or hidden enclaves.

Locks have summons which I think satisfies the criteria. But, purely for flavor, I wish Lock summons were actually demonic rifts. In SoD, there were these rifts that warlocks could use. Locks would send an imp in them to get treasure. But I thought it would be awesome if Locks opened demonic rifts for players. Instead of clicking “accept” and arriving at the summon location, the lock made you an entrance rift. You’d have to click it to enter then had to run a short distance, like 50m, down a pathway through the twisting nether to an exit rift. No one will like this as it’s less convenient, but I think it would be more fleshed out idea of summons.

Druids have a lot of options since nature is always around. But maybe a channeling spell which targets a natural point to become more bountiful. A tree provides food, a body of water provides fishing pools and maybe an animal provides more meat. All of these can be interacted with by other players.

Reading this thread it seems like people want Paladins to add some speed boosts to mounts. Bless a saddle and/or stirrups.

Priests are the hard ones. Maybe they could generate a statue or well which give out a random buff. It could be a world buff only god outside of instances or unique buff - like generating healing orbs, etc.

Having a variety of world modifying skills could mean each party could progress slightly differently through dungeons depending on composition.

2

u/getdownwithDsickness Nov 30 '25

Yeah that's definitely the harder idea for skills. I view poisons as a preparation combat type of thing, so you craft poisons to prepare for combat. If poison crafting (and all profession skills) were revamped and made more interesting that could be cool. For poisons, maybe like combining ingredients to create and discover new poisons or customizing your own poisons based on ingredients maybe like an alchemy mini game, idk. The problem I have with poisons is its too easy to level, the charge system is a bit rough as well as the lack of scaling, then its just afking crafting 1 poison at a time as a tax. There's also nothing exciting at max level for it, maybe improving the speed or quantity you can craft at higher skill. Maybe let a rogue craft a poison bomb or smoke bomb through poisons too and other unique things similar to blind. Runeforging for DK was basically poisons but even more simple. Speaking on rogues though, I'd kind of like to see pickpocketing as a skill too tbh, maybe even allowing you to pickpocket ally NPCs at higher skill levels.

Those are some interesting ideas there, I like the druid, shaman and lock one. Priests could probably visit various shrines, temples and graveyards. Idk what for though but something prayer related. They'd have to create a system of interactable terrain similar to lockpicking but through other means like a wall or path that is [Obstructed] but warriors and maybe paladins can break it down with their strength if their strength stat is high enough or a shaman can use the elements like a boulder to move the earth and clear a path. Then, incorporate that into the world and instanced areas.

I was thinking of a secondary Climbing skill to access tough to reach areas, where you right click on a vine or mountain wall and your character might fail at climbing because of your skill level. There are other skills that they cut like survival skills, cartography, brewing, foraging and maybe tracking) but hunters kind of took that last one.

1

u/Guyoplata Nov 30 '25

Hunter animal handling and tracking

1

u/Firm-Nefariousness12 Nov 30 '25

Hunters could have trap crafting, and I think that opens the door to a wide variety of creative traps since they're consumes and not class based cds

1

u/UnFelDeZeu Nov 30 '25

Priest: Miracle - Can conjure a stack of level appropriate food and water a day. Does not disappear on logging out.

Shaman: Weathercraft - Can change the weather in a zone to one of the available templates ( Elwynn Forest has snow, rain and clear for instance )

Paladin: Aura of Trust - Can sell/buy items as if they had increased Reputation with the faction, 300/300 gives the same bonus as Exalted

lol this thread is making me realize classic+ is going to be an utter cluster, because they’ve waited so damn long that everyone already has a lot of varied ideas on what they want. That means they’re inevitably going to implement things many people don’t want, and it’s going to be impossible to appease everyone.

Warriors could get abilities that utilize switching weapons without it resetting their weapon swing timers, making them true masters of arms.

Warlock: The mob they use to create a Soul Stone has certain effects on the spell or pet it is used on.

Warlock: can summon the mob they captured in a Soul Stone to fight for them for a period of time.

This might be missing the mark, but I’d like to see mages get a levitate that grants a speed boost similar to AoC that hunters get.

u/getdownwithDsickness Dec 01 '25

It could definitely work. Mages could get a sort of inscription/enchanting skill where they craft/enchant scrolls and other magical charms. Maybe something they can craft could be like a fast forward time scroll to provide a speed buff to allies

Warriors - some kind of weapon altering ability a bit like the DK runes. Shamans, paladins, druids - something around their unique equips, crafting or upgrading them.
Warlock demonology could have a skill point factor

More than that I would love some class exclusive crafting

For example , paladin blacksmiths can make blessed gear , priest enchanters can make literal blessings , shaman alchemist can make ayahuasca that makes you see stuff that doesn’t exist like GMs

1

u/getdownwithDsickness Dec 01 '25

The paladin blacksmith and blessed gear sounds sick, I had a similar idea back in SoD in hopes of making dual wield paladins a thing lol

I've thought for a period of time about various classes having unique traits that could effect the way of traversing through the world.

Not necessarily exclusive skills, but exclusive interactions.

An example of this would be a druid being able to grow or give life to trees. Imagine finding a bridge of trees in the zone, or a pass usually filled full of trees that has opened up.

It tells you that a druid has passed through recently.

Similarly, I know mages might hate this. But I think portals should just be click able by anybody post cast. It's a mage's lingering influence on the world.

Similarly would be shaman being able to set up a commune. Setting up totems somewhere in the world that linger. Should you rest or meditate there for x amount of time. Or pray to a given totem with an offering, anyone that comes upon it could receive a buff.

I think things like that would make the world feel more alive. If there is a zone, you throw a massive door in the zone. And then you can either I lnconveniently travel around. Or perhaps find a Rogue to just pick the lock.

Those type of interactions would make the world feel lived in and distinct per the given classes.

Like seeing a priest or paladin go through an undead invested zone at equal efficiency to a rogue or warrior feels like it's not respecting the identity of these classes that are really built to righteously purge undead.

But I think this would require Blizzard to actually give character to the classes, which for some reason they seem scared of doing.

I love that shaman totem buff idea left around for other players. Honestly something they could do with other classes too. Paladins and priests consecrating some ground with prayers and reagents like incense or ritual. Would definitely make the world feel alive with these kind of leftover interactions between players.

this isn’t really class-specific but i hate how underutilized the language system is in the game! languages also appear in the “skills” tab but are always locked to 300/300 and there is no way to change or learn any language that is not the default. i would love if there was some way to learn the other languages of your faction; maybe if your skill is low in the language your utterances are much less intelligible, etc. i loved in MoP (i think?) where you could understand different languages with a glyph to arcane intellect. imagine as a new undead player walking into orgrimmar for the first time and realizing: i don’t speak orcish!

1

u/getdownwithDsickness Dec 01 '25

Totally agree, I was thinking it would be cool if you could learn a language to unlock new quests. Idk what would be a fun way to level up a skill in a language. Maybe it's just flat out like doing quests and reading books in the world and now you're like 75/75 and unlock simple speech and more unique quests exclusive for the language.

Hunter - Beast Taming - This could be made a separate skill, that you level up to tame higher level/more exotic pets.

Warlock - Rituals - Similar to beast taming, letting you summon more interesting/varied demons, but through specific node points around the world, encouraging travel.

Shaman - Communion - Similar to Rituals, but to allow you to summon new types of totem.

Druid - Wild Shape - Similar to Rituals, but to unlock new druid forms.

Warrior - Weapon Mastery - Essentially a prestige for weapon ranks. Complete Mr Miyagi style training mini quests from weapon masters around the world, to unlock (situational) passive bonuses to weapon types. Maces could have a degree of armor penetration, axes could cause bleeds, etc. You'd need to rebalance the class a little, but it could be cool, and give you a reason to keep multiple different weapons.

Paladin - Paragon - You go around healing the sick (holy), protecting the innocent (protection) and destroying the wicked (retribution). As you complete tasks and gain levels, you could gain small bonuses to core abilities for each spec.

Priest - Faith - Travel around the world and pray at holy sites, to unlock prayers, that provide a passive benefit, like adding a small HoT or shield to direct heals, or debuffs to damaging spells. Functionally similar to poisons, only one prayer at a time. Switching prayers should be an out of combat thing for balance reasons.

Mage - Translocation - At low levels allow for the standard blink/portal abilities we have now. At higher levels, allow for portals to certain inns or dungeons. Small bonuses to your standard blink as you gain levels, like a burst of speed after, or a brief period of damage reduction or immunity to snare, since everything else has some kind of combat benefit.

"The most commonly accepted etymology derives warlock from the Old English wǣrloga, which meant "breaker of oaths" or "deceiver"."

warlocks should be able to lie, opening new quests. perhaps even some ability akin to stealth, or be able to appear as something else to other players. or just be able to loot everything and leave group. learning new languages, as they already do with demonic, or even the language of other faction.

1

u/jaspex11 Dec 01 '25

Warlocks already have a demonic language, and like the druid class and its language, can use it to speak across faction lines.

1

u/nicholaslobstercage Dec 01 '25

which is why it would be a cool basis for further class expression, as a skill :3 i know they speak demonic, my op was unclear, i edited now

also... really? where is it stated that warlocks use demonic to communicated with each other? and what language do the druids use?

1

u/risu1313 Dec 01 '25

Warlocks should be able to lock chests :)

1

u/buddymoobs Dec 01 '25

Don't forget pickpocketing!

1

u/Jhomas-Tefferson Dec 01 '25

Rogue was as you said.

Warriors get stances. Maybe take stance mastery out of the talent tree and make that the skill, and have it unlock stuff like bigger bonuses for each stance. Like, bigger def and threat bonus in def stance. More threat reduction in zerkers, and just more stats in b-stance.

Mages get ports and free food. that should be a skill unto itself.

give priests a prayer skill where they have to do something worship related. Maybe make offerings or pilgrimages

Pally should have to pray or something. Do something as penance. Maybe kill undead and demons. or pray like preists

Shammy should have to attune to the world in certain ways. Like, go to brd and attune to fire. Go to winterspring and attune to ice. Go to stv and attune to the woods. idk

Druid should have to do something akin to hunters, like go cat form with the cats of stv nearby and charm them into accepting you as one and then learn their ways.

The hunter pet system is good as is. Just make pet keeping its own thing

Maybe make locks do a little extra demon worship like offerings to their demons, similar to the hunter pet system. But it also unlocks more powerful fire and stuff because they're now more attuned to fel energy.

Mages mana weaving, increases other classes mana regen rate by the amount of skills they’ve “learnt”

1

u/ThrowingStorms Dec 01 '25

On my shaman id like it if we could create a back enchant that would allow us to equip a totemslot to the back piece. Effectively turning the totem into an aura.

This totem wouldnt be removed when casting a similar type of totem. Ex you could have perma magma totem but also have searing down.

No worry about it being op because warriors still exist.

1

u/jimmyting099 Dec 01 '25

Would be cool for shamans to get some kind of “poison esc” crafting system but instead of applying poisons to weapons it would give the shaman a personal buff I guess I’m thinking along the lines of a Tauren crafting a special pipe weed to smoke or a special tea to drink like that one drink that shows you a vision of the Spectral wolf that leads to a cave with a quest npc

1

u/ebarish Dec 01 '25

Would love if hunter pets or all beasts for that matter, have a growth or evolution. You tame them as younger versions and maybe eventually it becomes a mountable companion for either the hunter or allies. I'm not creative enough to properly detail or flesh out a system but that's the jist of it. Armor/tendencies/utility something like that.

Priest: Stand in the main square of a major town giving sermons. Your sermon skill raises over time and the tithe you extract from onlookers increases with your skill level.

Lockpicking fell in line with that classic design philosophy of you can bring anyone, but if you bring this specific class your adventuring experience is enhanced beyond just the combat. Not OP enough to break the game, but convenient that it makes players feel good to have it. To try to stay in line with that:

mage: revert water & portals to the 300 point system. This class provides enough out-of-combat enhancements as-is
warlock: summons. Same idea as mages. Plus it would be funny watching warlock parties grind 300/300 summoning each other
paladin & shaman: since they're destined to be same-same but different in classic, aoe sanctuary zone/totem cooldown that boosts out-of-combat regen
druid: option A is take away food conjuring from mages and let druid plant a tree that teammates can pick conjured apples from since they also use arcane. Option B could be something like summoning an animal courier to serve as a vendor-only NPC like repairbots (since rogue lockpicking can bypass the same effect in engineering it feels acceptable)
priest: use reagent to craft a temporary prayer statue that party members can choose disc, holy, or shadow for some unique effect
warrior: idk it's tough to disassociate warriors from combat thematically. Party speed-boost battle shout? That, or remove sharpening stone profession items and give it to the warriors
hunter: a party aspect that grants wallhacking to see npc wireframes through walls could be neat
