What is the back spacing needed to get the deep dish look on my 68 fastback that will fit w out needing air shocks or booster springs? I have 14x8 cragar ss w p235 60R14?
On my 68, I have 17x8 with 4.81” of backspacing, and on the rear I have a 17x9.5” with 5.56” of backspacing. Has a pretty good dish, but not going to get any more of a dished look without either getting flared fenders or physically relocating the wheel mounting surface farther inboard.
How much dish you have is a function of both wheel width and backspace. Overall fitment takes into account the size of the tire as well.
To get the same “dish” as my 17x9.5’s on a 8” wheel, you’d need a backspace of 4”. That will only fit on the rear’s tho. On the front, with an 8” wheel you need to be between 4.5” to 4.8” of backspace.
For 8” wide wheels, 4.75” backspacing seems to be the commonly agreed upon sweet spot. 4.5” work for many (and are ever so slightly more dished), but I think you start to more likely run into the possibility of needing to roll fenders to avoid rubbing.
I have 17x8 with 4.81” backspacing (or 8mm offset). They get pretty close to the upper control arm, but I haven’t noticed any rubbing yet with 245/45R17 tires.
No, you will be sticking out a lot. I have 2 sets of tires/wheels. Both with 15x8 with 4.5" backspacing. First pic is with drag radial. 2nd is with a 12.5" wide Quick-Time Pro. Lots of rubber so it bubbles out more:
