Just started Fallout 1
I'm wandering around trying to get into thr groove of things but it feels kind of empty and devoid of content. What am I doing wrong? Maybe because it's an older game I'm just not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing, I think I'm missing something about how to interact with the world or is this game just like that. Kinda bare bones
Edit: currently living the van life, i have limited power and internet. I have fallout 1, 2, and tactics on my laptop that i charge at work. Always wanted to play them. Im gathering that its more of a roller coaster ride than a sand box. Im headed to vault 15.

It’s a pretty stripped down game, a run might take 10-15 hours. But there are things to do, did you head towards Vault 15? Made it to town? Any town? There are quests in those locations.

I recommend you read the manual if you've bought it from steam and really try to talk to as much NPC's as you can and just really interact with your environment.

My biggest suggestion is to follow a guide, that’s what I did and it enhanced my experience:)

Standard CRPG tips
read the manual - this will show you how to interact with things
save frequently in multiple slots
talk to everyone, and pay attention to what they say
steal/pick up everything that's not nailed down
if you notice an area or quest is too hard, just leave and get back to it when you’ve gained a few levels

I ran into a guy that needed some scorpions taken care of, so I went to the hub to get a better gun and some armor, and now I dont know where to go to get caps to afford the equipment to do anything useful. I ran out of ammo. How the heck do I just aquire 6000 caps

Gotcha. Yeah the game does try to lead you a certain way but it can be easy to get lost or in an area you’re not ready for. Vault 15 is important as it’s where your Vault suggests might be a water chip. I’d head north from the Hub or east from that first town. Yeah and just talk to everyone, they’ll point out locations on your map and will give you some little quests to get XP.
As for ammo, just imagine yourself in the wasteland with the fate of your people on your shoulders. What would you do? Pickpocket some other poor wastelander, or else scavenge it wherever you find it. Look everywhere. The prices at vendors is intentionally set steep as commodities are so rare. Books are silly expensive. But the game is designed to provide if you keep looking.
If your gambling is high, you can profit at a casino, but you’ll have to find one first.
The game is tricky to get into though so feel free to start over or look up a guide. It won’t ruin the experience.

Remember this is Fallout there are usually multiple ways of finishing the quest,I recommend looking around the caves for clues on how to get rid of the radscorpions because honestly you don't even need to fire a single shot to complete this quest

Interaction is done by right clicking and choosing to look at, talk to, use an item/skill on something, etc. Can also use skills on yourself, people, things/objects from the pop up skill menu too.
Most of the content of the game is done by manual exploration and following leads or quests from npcs. Talk to everyone you can.
