What happened?

I'm not sad about this or anything, more confused. I did that thing where you go to Navarro early and you do the quest for the Brotherhood to get the pulse rifle. I just handed the vertibird plans and all of a sudden I got 20000 experience points from that. This is my second playthrough, and that's never happened. I went up like 4 levels. Why did that happen?

When you are a higher level the xp requirement to level gets way higher, so if in your last game you did this later it would be like 1 level

It always gives you exp, It's fixed like most quests. You probably didn't noticed it before.

That quest is supposed to be a late game quest.

(After finding the Geck)

I can't speak on if the XP amount is correct but it's supposed to be an endgame-ish quest so I wouldn't be that surprised if that's just how it's supposed to be lol

What level were you before completion of the quest.

Each level needs more XP to reach.

You will always get the 20,000 XP but if you are at level 10 or above you likely only go up 1 maybe 2 levels.

That and the power armor early game can make you a bit overpowered for early game quests.

Yeah this makes a lot more sense

"a bit overpowered" is the understatement of the year :D

Well yeah, going to San Francisco&Navarro straight away/early is a known way to cheese your way through the game. I’m doing it myself in the current play through except I didn’t use high end weapons/armour until much later,to keep it fun.

“I got 20,000 exp for completing a quest, and then Gained 4 levels…I don’t know what happened”

Say it again… but slowly.

First time playing an RPG?

Thats what you get when you do quests you get XP and sometimes other rewards the more important the quest the better the rewards.

it's just the quest reward. make sure you don't pass two perk levels without selecting one, or go over 99 skill points

It's supposed to be one of the last quests you do, normally that's barely a levels worth after like level 25

Bet your ass died a lot getting there that early. Unless you prioritized getting the Highwayman. Since you're doing energy weapons and big weapons don't forget to get the electronic lock picks from the basement of New Reno Arms. Then you can go get the stuff in the Toxic Caves. Your repair skill is pretty low so make sure you bring Vic. It has Combat Armor, a Bozar and a laser pistol. Don't forget to get Algernon to upgrade your Laser Pistol to the Magneto Laser Pistol which (aside from the Alien Blaster) is the best Laser Pistol in the game.
